Minetest, why you gotta have such a crappy mipmap |
04:51 |
benrob0329 |
If I make the mask a higher resolution, then the mipmap scales it when your a block away (removing the transparency) |
04:51 |

If I make it a lower resolution, it looks like a checkerboard pattern |

The checkerboard transparency method works, but our mipmap sucks |
07:37 |

Increase resolution > doesnt look like Swiss cheese |

07:42 |

Worth? Like the worth of time investment? Settling on a compromise between Swiss cheese and trippy texture rendering because its only shown for like 20 seconds and will be animated anyways. |

IhrFussel |
Aerozoic, if you think that this would be bad practice I'm not sure what I should tell you... there are servers that just ban you out of boredom, ban you for arguing with staff, or put you in jail for DAYS for every single thing a player does wrong ... I don't see my idea as bad as those |
14:34 |
sfan5 |
red-001, probably |
14:34 |
Aerozoic |
IhrFussel, i'm not judging. I'm simply trying to understand, as i have indicated earlier i feel like i don't fully understand what's going on. |
14:36 |
IhrFussel |
Aerozoic, I only allow 1 account per *person* on my server...this is an official rule everyone have to follow ... now I noticed some just ignore that rule or try to sneak another alt account in and this method about flagging potential alt accounts helps a lot ... of course there will be false positives but those always can prove their identity |
14:38 |
IhrFussel |
I don't want to restrict accounts per IP because it's not unlikely that 2 or more play MT in the same household |
14:41 |
red-001 |
IhrFussel, how do you handle that situation if they share a pc? |
14:42 |
shivajiva |
I operated on 5 names per IP and made it clear that if one gets banned they all get banned. It worked well enough without appearing to restrictive |
14:42 |
shivajiva |
+o |
14:45 |
IhrFussel |
red-001, it's not easy to verify anything via just the IP ... cause you have no clue what really happens in front of that PC/device |
14:47 |
IhrFussel |
So I created my own "stalker scripts" which watch what players do based on certain things and compare those things to other players (like writing style) and then alert me if they found something suspicious |
14:48 |
shivajiva |
you realise how extreme that sounds :D |
14:48 |
Aerozoic |
Yeah seriously! |
14:49 |
IhrFussel |
Since MT doesn't want to implement a unique identifier I feel like such scripts are much needed ... The way my server works would really be broken in case someone got multiple accounts |
14:50 |
IhrFussel |
I cannot trust what my players tell me anymore...they just say "oh no this is my brother/sister" and think they can keep the account |
14:52 |
IhrFussel |
Sometimes they are dumb enough to reveal their identity when no staff is online, but some hide it pretty well |
14:53 |
shivajiva |
many players operated feeder accounts on skyblocks, it amused me that they thought it necessary given you can grind unlimited blocks as long as you have collected the ores. |
14:54 |
IhrFussel |
shivajiva, on my server there are some commands players can use every X hours to get some items... that could be abused with multiple accounts for example |
14:55 |
IhrFussel |
In fact I sometimes see accounts just join to send that command and leave again |
14:56 |
IhrFussel |
And that many ISPs give their customers dynamic IPs makes the tracking even harder |
14:56 |
shivajiva |
kids pm their real 'ident' to players they know after a short time. It was smart shops but I figured if they wanted to do it 5 times they could get 10 shops, seemed okay given the effort |
14:59 |
shivajiva |
given the visible flaws it just restricts what you can do that they can't exploit. I wouldn't open it up and then try and police it, too much effort writing code and spending time watching |
15:01 |
shivajiva |
at least spawn grief is a lot harder these days lol |
15:06 |
Aerozoic |
IhrFussel, i understand now the reason for your efforts. What makes me question you is that you indicated that you would single out players based on a suspicion and then force them to prove innocence. Enforcing the rule this way would result in a much larger percentage innocent players getting punished than guilty players. |
15:09 |
IhrFussel |
Aerozoic, there is no real "punishment" for those "flagged as potential alt-account" states ... it's just a method to have a better overview over the suspicious accounts |
15:09 |
Aerozoic |
Oh sorry! I thought you were using it as a method of punishment. |
15:10 |
IhrFussel |
Instead of watching all accounts closely I only need to watch those more that my moderators flagged |
15:11 |
IhrFussel |
I thought about "temp banning" the flagged accounts first, but decided against it since my moderators also have no proof at that point..it's just a "smart guess" |
15:18 |
Aerozoic |
Sorry for putting you on the spot and thanks for explaining it out! |

regarding sofars posting...how safe is a formspec stored in metadata plus on_receive_fields? there's no way to combine that with manual right-clicking |

20:36 |

rubenwardy: hmm. one might assume that the server does some checks on its own. if it doesn't there's hardly any chance to check manually. plausibility checks would be possible - i.e. "is the player not too far away" - but that won't cover "there's a thick wall between player and node" |
20:38 |
Sokomine |
Jordach: there is at least one mod which hides the tag of the player. and another(?) that changes the player's texture to almost invisible, with some eyes beeing the only thing left |
