I did some compile time testing on the 5950X box for every -j value from -j1 to -j40... started off at 380 seconds with one thread, decreased about as expected up until 58 seconds at -j16, and then was 57±1 seconds from there all the way up until I got bored at -j40. |
00:19 |
cheapie |
"make -j" with no limit took 61 seconds. |

cheapie: what `nproc` shows on it? |
00:28 |
cheapie |
32 - it's a 16C/32T part |

interesting. |

I am running slow (by gamer standards) RAM, it might be limited by that. |

cheapie: Do you have more than 8x8 GB RAM sticks? because RAM is usually sold in GB not GiB to my understanding |
01:58 |
Blockhead256 |
my desktop here has 30Gi available to linux, 2x16 GB DIMMs |
01:58 |
cheapie |
Blockhead256: I've only seen RAM sold in GiB amounts (not GB), but at any rate it's running 4x 16GiB DIMMs |
01:59 |
Blockhead256 |
what does `free -h` give you? |
02:01 |
cheapie |
A hair less, due to various hardware-reserved shenanigans: |
02:01 |
cheapie |
total used free shared buff/cache available |
02:01 |
cheapie |
Mem: 62Gi 4.7Gi 30Gi 226Mi 27Gi 57Gi |
02:01 |
Blockhead256 |
interesting, I would have expected 60Gi, all other things being even |
02:01 |
cheapie |
It is closer to 64GiB than to 64GB, specifically 65768396 bytes |
02:02 |
Blockhead256 |
I don't use my builtin graphics so I'm not sure what the reserve is.. kernel stuff I guess |
02:02 |
Blockhead256 |
I was wrong about sticks being GB then |
02:02 |
cheapie |
I don't think I've ever seen a DIMM (or SIMM, or even bare RAM IC) sold with any units other than "we really mean KiB/MiB/GiB but we're going to print KB/MB/GB anyway" |
02:03 |
cheapie |
Aside from a few bare ones that were small enough they just printed the number of bytes :P |
02:03 |
Blockhead256 |
anyway, something that uses leaflet would usually be better than expecting people to have enough RAM to open all of minetestmapper's output |

If you want to just put it up somewhere and let people scroll around, yeah. For viewing the whole thing at once (even at a reduced size), less so. |
02:05 |
Blockhead256 |
is the maximum zoomout inadequate though? You can't exactly fit 64k pixels on a monitor at native res |
02:06 |
cheapie |
leaflet is also kind of annoying if you want to provide a download (to view offline), which I think is what the people wanted that asked me for a copy. |
02:06 |
Blockhead256 |
I suppose your goal here is really smooth zooming instead of being able to notice leaflet working... well most image viewer struggle with images that size anyway |
02:06 |
Blockhead256 |
well, providing a huge image is easier than providing a bunch of leaflet tiles and a viewer app |

<rollerozxa> you don't need to anymore |

[: you don't need to compile with any special options, can just enable it in the settings since 5.9 |

how do I access the inventory, or even exit with the touch interface (and no keyboard, I'm running this on my phone)? |

I wanted to add some patches to starninja's fork of sakel's bow mod. Is there no other option than forking it? |

<luatic> fork and PR. the PR is essentially zero cost once you've got the fork. if they ignore the PR, that's fine, users can switch to the fork. |
