00:32 Derp4u Hi everybody
00:33 specing joined #minetest
00:33 Derp4u I'm looking to build a huge statute. I found some minecraft schematics but don't know how to turn them into something I can read.
00:34 Derp4u Also I'm not married to the plans, any ideas? I'm just looking for something big with feet

07:48 mdhughes I finally got to -1000 in my newish world. I repeatedly fall to my death getting down there. May be able to set up nets, tho. I like that it's *hard*, not dig for 5 minutes and you win the game.

12:24 Yuvi hey guys
12:24 Yuvi irc is pretty uhh
12:28 ireallyhateirc great, right? :D
12:31 bdju is this channel gonna change names too
12:33 specing channels can't be renamed
12:57 Oblomov we could have #luanti and ask for a redirect though
13:14 SwissalpS #luanti is already in use, only needs redirect ;)
13:15 SwissalpS (and bots reconfigured)
13:17 specing just ban forward everyone here
13:17 specing just ban forward everyone here to there*
13:31 celeron55 i wish i had room in my irssi window number shortcuts for more channels
13:31 celeron55 the hardest part of the transition period of this rename
13:32 celeron55 a ban forward fill fix it, that's true
13:54 Ingar dump irssi for weechat
13:56 celeron55 i've tried that
13:56 celeron55 it's worse
13:56 celeron55 too many annoying features and no focus on things that i care about
14:01 mazes_83 joined #minetest
14:34 SwissalpS +1 also irssi uses way less resources
14:37 celeron55 way less clutter, fits into a small window and you can focus on what you're doing. and all this by default, no need to spend a week configuring
14:41 celeron55 i'd do the ban forward right now but i'm completely drained out of my problem solving energy due to work. just thinking of it going wrong and having to figure out something in realtime makes me feel sick. maybe tomorrow
14:42 specing weechatis better
14:43 specing not sure what these resources are? Compared to Firefox, everything else barely registers for resource usage
14:50 SwissalpS lol, FireFox is an elephant, possibly even larger than gimp - I haven't checked recently.
14:50 SwissalpS I use irssi on a RasPi, there resources are scarce
14:52 SwissalpS Using ssh to access the Pi from whichever device I'm at, there is only small chance of me missing messages.
14:53 * SwissalpS apologizes for off-topic
14:53 specing ah, ARM potato, alright
14:58 Ingar my weechat is currently having a full 150K VIRT mem size!
14:59 Ingar and, if your raspi hasn't enough power to run it, you got ripped off (or you got a ery old one)
15:29 [ specing: irssi handles large (pissnet-size) quantities of spam better than weechat
15:32 Hanicef joined #minetest

16:59 swift110-mobile hello all
17:00 swift110-mobile whats the lowest spec machine you folks use for luanti
17:01 cheapie I only have two boxes I play it at all regularly on - this laptop here is the lower of the two, usually only used if I need to hop on for a minute to help someone with something:
17:01 cheapie Client: HexChat 2.16.2 • OS: Debian trixie/sid • CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx (2.35GHz) • Memory: Physical: 28.6 GiB Total (21.7 GiB Free) Swap: 9.8 GiB Total (9.7 GiB Free) • Storage: 21.0 GB / 114.5 GB (93.6 GB Free) • VGA: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Picasso/Raven 2 [Radeon Vega Series / Radeon Vega Mobile Series] @ Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Family 17h • Uptime

17:11 [ swift110-mobile: thinkpad x200
17:13 Noisytoot Client: HexChat 2.16.2 • OS: Guix System ? • CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU         P8700  @ 2.53GHz (959MHz) • Memory: 7.3 GiB Total (4.1 GiB Free) • Storage: 926.4 GB / 976.8 GB (50.4 GB Free) • Uptime: 5w 6d 2h 36m 38s
17:16 Noisytoot (I am [ and that's the thinkpad x200, in case it isn't obvious)
17:18 Noisytoot also the numbers for storage are wrong, I don't know where hexchat's getting that from (I have a 500GB SSD so I can't possibly have >900GB used)
17:39 swift110-mobile Noisytoot: oh wow you are doing luanti on an x200
17:39 swift110-mobile I have an x201 but it's so beaten up.  I might end up getting another one as I really  like the aspect ratio
17:40 swift110-mobile x220 would be amazing but im not doing 16:9 on such a small device
17:42 specing erle is doing it on *60
17:42 specing <Noisytoot> also the numbers for storage are wrong, I don't know where hexchat's getting that from (I have a 500GB SSD so I can't possibly have >900GB used)
17:43 specing with btrfs/zfs you can have 900GB used on 500GB SSD :)

17:48 shaft Who came up with the new name?
17:49 shaft It's not terrible but not good either.
17:50 MTDiscord <mistere_123> it was one of three finalists in a long list of name suggestions
17:52 ireallyhateirc if it was in charge I'd call it "voxellarium" but then people would be upset about that too :D
17:53 ireallyhateirc at least it's not called "BuildCraft"
17:53 MTDiscord <mistere_123> https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/13510
17:54 MTDiscord <mistere_123> there were all the initial name suggestions
17:55 MTDiscord <mistere_123> https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/13510#issuecomment-1553384798  so Freshreplicant was the one to suggest it
17:55 ireallyhateirc my main issue is that luanti sounds like an italian shoe/clothing brand but I believe it is still objectively better than Minetest
17:57 MTDiscord <mistere_123> anyhow, there were lots of suggestions, a whole name selection process, and the fact that the name is not bad is a win, and it's time to move on. If you want a different name, fork the project 🙂
17:57 shaft It sounds like lua anti. When I first saw the documentation change I read it that way too despite English not being my first language. I understand it has lua but that -anti is from Finnish creation is a bit hard to understand. How large is the population of Finland even?
17:57 Mantar it's growing on me. I really liked "MTBox" though :)
17:59 MTDiscord <mistere_123> the point of using Finnish is the C55 is Finnish.
18:02 shaft I guess, I'll have to get used to it. Anyway why does player:get_player_control().sneak always return false for me?
18:03 shaft Oh, I got it. on_rightclick isn't fired when I sneak
18:05 shaft Is there a on_sneak_rightcick?
18:13 shaft nevermind.

18:57 cheapie 22 minutes to compile on a GX-420GI, not too bad
18:58 Krock cheapie: with -j4 ?
18:59 cheapie -j6
19:00 cheapie Runs alright too, so long as I don't do anything crazy like build something.

19:14 rodrigo-morales [Question] Is there a default keybinding that inserts the block being pointed to the current slot in the inventory? In Minecraft, it is possible to do this by pressing the middle button in the mouse.
19:14 Krock there's no such feature. middle mouse buttons aren't used at all
19:15 Krock https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/master/doc/lua_api.md?plain=1#L8446-L8449
19:15 Krock pointing to the Lua API because that would be something to do by mods and not the engine
19:16 Krock but I'm pretty sure someone already requested this
19:17 Krock #9781  here we go
19:17 ShadowBot https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/9781 -- Pick node by middle click
19:18 rodrigo-morales Krock: Thanks for the information. I'll take a look at that issue.
19:18 Krock in creative the hand item can generally dig nodes very quickly, thus a possible workaround is to dig the node first and then put it back (copy kept in the inventory) (assuming that you have access to the area)
19:19 Krock or use the F5 debug info to see the node name and then look that up in the inventory

19:48 [ cheapie: what's the point of -j6 when you only have 4 cores?

19:49 specing Maybe cheapie is a physicist and has 2 additional dark cores to satisfy the 4+2 = 6 equation
19:53 Krock [: mainly to keep the CPU busy while file I/O
19:55 cheapie I haven't tested this specific chip, but yeah, in most cases it seems like one or two more than the number of available threads is fastest.
19:55 cheapie A little more with slow storage, a little less with fast storage
19:56 cheapie In this case it *is* an SSD, but a rather old low-end SATA one.
19:58 [ How many threads would I be able to compile on with 1GB of RAM? I'm going to try it on this netbook with an Intel Atom N450, 1GB of RAM, and an old HDD
20:00 Krock minetest? maybe 1. Chromium? maybe 0.01 threads.
