15:43 rubenwardy someone asking for help on getting the latest Minetest on RPi: https://fosstodon.org/@dosch@zirk.us/111902163705086052
15:49 ROllerozxa "compile from source" is rather unfortunate for low-specced pi's
15:51 ROllerozxa one would think it'd be possible to set up a cross-compilation setup for latest versions of arm32 and arm64 raspbian that could run in CI and produce builds pi users can use
15:51 MTDiscord <.superstarsonic> I tried compiling from source on my RPI 3b, but it took about 5 hours
15:54 ROllerozxa on my pi 4b it compiles quicker than that but yeah it's not ideal
15:58 sfan5 there's an issue for that(tm)

18:08 jonadab Having seen how abysmal MT's performance is on a moderately specced Windows 10 laptop, I would not be very excited about trying to run it on anything too low-end for compiling.  But yes, _in principle_ cross-compilation should be possible.
18:09 jonadab Someone would just have to, you know, figure out how to set that up.
18:09 ROllerozxa thankfully the raspberry pi does not run windows
18:10 jonadab That will help somewhat, yes.  Windows Phone/Eight/Ten/Eleven has maybe the least performant virtual memory layer of any OS I have ever worked with (setting aside ones that didn't support virtual memory at all).
18:12 jonadab Running only the client, and connecting to a server hosted on another system, will also help, assuming the network connection is decent.
18:12 rubenwardy lmao ROller
18:12 rubenwardy thankfully
18:12 jonadab That would not go well, with recent versions of Windows.

18:13 jonadab Windows 95, you could probably run in an emulator on an rpi.
18:14 jonadab Though I don't know why you would, other than just to prove that you can.

19:49 Ingar I tried MT on a raspberry pi4 and it wasnt great
19:49 Ingar around 20fps  as I recall
19:50 jonadab 20fps could be just about playable if that were the only problem/limitation.
19:51 Ingar I wonder if it got better
19:51 jonadab Honestly, I'd be more worried about the amount of memory, than the processor speed.
19:51 Ingar I do have an 8GB version
19:52 jonadab Ah.
19:53 ROllerozxa increasing the undersampling setting by a bit generally helps performance on the pi a lot in my experience
19:53 Ingar 5.8.0 is even in arch's repo
19:56 Ingar but intrue arch style, I'd need to update the system first :p
19:56 ROllerozxa it seems like arch still hasn't debundled devtest from their package
19:58 Ingar I could bake binaries but I don't file like cooking on friday evening
19:58 Ingar *don't feel like cooking
