01:09 deept so i just updated my minetest server
01:10 deept and the world reset
01:10 deept and players
01:10 deept server was running from flatpak
01:10 MTDiscord <Warr1024> How sure are you that you're even running the same world?
01:10 MTDiscord <Warr1024> Flatpak stores stuff in like ~/.var, so you should be able to find your files.
01:10 deept thats a question
01:11 deept lemme see if i can find out for sure
01:12 MTDiscord <Warr1024> I usually recommend docker for servers if you want containers ... I dunno if flatpak is specifically "bad" for it but it doesn't seem to be flatpak's intended focus.  In either case you do need to be aware of what you're mounting and what's ephemeral when dealing with containers.
01:13 MTDiscord <Warr1024> Maybe the new flatpak version doesn't share the data dir with the old one?  That would be dumb but I've seen dumber.
01:16 deept ya its trying to select the wrong world
01:16 deept now that it updated
01:18 deept the --world command says it implies a local game
01:18 MTDiscord <Warr1024> Haha, happens.  I had somebody tell me about a config problem they were running into for the longest time, and it turned out they just needed to explicitly pass in the full config path in the command line because where they assumed it was looking was in fact not.
01:19 MTDiscord <Warr1024> I just always use ~/.Minetest/worlds/world.  If I want to have a different world instance then I use a different MT instance entirely.

02:09 deept ya just symlinked to new location
02:09 deept thanks am tired and wasnt thinking
02:09 deept cheers
02:35 Blockhead256[m] what benefits do you see by using flatpak instead of dev-ppa or self-build on your server?
02:58 sometalgoo Just popping in here on the topic.  I'm using the Snap off Ubuntu to run my local Minetest server.  Is there a better way I should consider doing it?
03:01 MTDiscord <Warr1024> Snap and flatpak feel like they're more suited for client use, but if it works and you can manage it, they're not wrong necessarily.
03:01 MTDiscord <Warr1024> For a one off, compiling from src gets you the latest code, while something like docker is nice if you want to scale up easily.
03:02 MTDiscord <Warr1024> Docker has the management bits, while for src compiled stuff, you'll want to setup systemd or something.
03:03 MTDiscord <Warr1024> The important thing is reliability.  If your server suddenly reboots, does everything come up as expected again?  Are you able to automate backups and updates?
03:04 MTDiscord <Warr1024> IIRC for client use I also switched from snap to flatpak because I didn't like something about how the snap was maintained (I don't remember the details, maybe they were slow to update?)
03:11 luk3yx The Minetest snap is still on 5.6.1

11:36 Oblomov is there a minetest kbin communty up yet?
11:39 Blockhead256[m] hmm had to search what kbin is, no I don't know of one
11:39 Blockhead256[m] but tchcs.de hosts a lemmy instance now which is similar
11:40 Blockhead256[m] and a few people in the community use mastodon
11:40 Blockhead256[m] sorry that's tchncs.de
11:44 Oblomov good too 8-)
11:46 Blockhead256[m] Milan, who runs tchncs, runs the Illuna Minetest server(s)
11:46 Blockhead256[m] in case you were wondering what the connection was
11:46 Oblomov hm I can't seem to find minetest on discuss.tchncs.de though
11:47 Oblomov so the lemmy instance is there but ther doesn't seem to be a community within dedicated to minetet
11:47 Oblomov Blockhead256[m]: gotcha 8-D
