I'm wondering where I got that version of irc_commands from on skyblocks, it's pre June 2016 :') |

i think it'd be nice to see a hover text for the server's MOTD on servers.minetest.net. though, i don't think most servers change this field often... |
08:35 |
sfan5 |
motd is not sent to the server list, so this is not possible without engine changes |
08:36 |
rubenwardy |
not sure the use, given that there's server_description |
08:49 |
|
nerzhul joined #minetest-hub |
08:49 |
VanessaE |
an image (e.g. a screenshot of the server spawn) on hover would be more useful |
08:50 |
VanessaE |
(leave it up to the server admin to create said image) |
09:03 |
jas_ |
oh, i see. didn't know that about motd |
09:39 |
jas_ |
i'm not sure the use either, but i thought it would make the motd field more interesting, and possibly more useful itself |
09:40 |
jas_ |
and i imagine there could be a tab on main menu that showed it, beyond server_description |
09:40 |
jas_ |
just thoughts anyways |
09:41 |
jas_ |
the description i would think does not change, where 'message of the day' might change, at least more than description. |
09:43 |
jas_ |
now, /set command is pretty useless on a client connected to a server where they don't have server priv, maybe that's obvious |
09:43 |
jas_ |
but that should only apply for actually setting the set |
09:43 |
jas_ |
eg /set motd without argument displays it |
09:44 |
jas_ |
which would be useful, very useful, for a client. but this is not possible. anyway, that's all. |

It seems that many people still don't understand what /clearobjects quick actually does: They think it will ONLY clear objects in currently loaded map areas which is only half of the feature... it will also clear objects in all other map areas as soon as those get loaded |
18:37 |
IhrFussel |
So there is absolutely no point in sending the command several times like mentioned here https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?p=308479#p308479 |
18:41 |
rubenwardy |
really /clearobjects should default to quick |
18:42 |
IhrFussel |
rubenwardy, there should at least a prompt to confirm the full mode plus a message that tells the server owner that it could take a really long time |
18:43 |
IhrFussel |
But quick mode as default sounds good |
18:44 |
IhrFussel |
Less error prone if you have to type full yourself if you really need the full mode |
18:46 |
IhrFussel |
worldedit uses //clearobjects and I really dislike to use that command because if I forget one slash I will start something bad |
18:48 |
IhrFussel |
Well "bad" ... not sure if it's 100% safe to kill minetestserver while it clears objects |
18:51 |
Shara |
A /clearobjects on my server would likely be a death sentence :) |
18:52 |
Shara |
I should probably just override the command so all it does is print "Nope, not happening" |
18:53 |
rubenwardy |
lol |
18:54 |
Raven262 |
red-001, How? |
18:54 |
Raven262 |
Oh and btw, is that present in the code that was posted? |
18:54 |
Raven262 |
Since many of those lines make no sense. |
18:58 |
IhrFussel |
Shara, but sometimes you need //clearobjects from WE cause objects tend to glitch in some way or another x/ and that's where the biggest danger lies (if you don't overwrite /clearobjects) |
18:59 |
Shara |
Fussel, I have no issues with //clearobjects.. and that's exactly why I'm saying I should override /clearobjects |
19:00 |
IhrFussel |
I didn't say it's an issue ... but it's one slash away from clearing everything on the server which makes the command risky... |
19:00 |
Shara |
I'm not sure what your point is anyway. |
19:01 |
Shara |
You just seem to be explaining why I said what I said |
19:01 |
IhrFussel |
Overwriting default commands shouldn't be necessary...this is my point |
19:02 |
|
Krock joined #minetest-hub |
19:02 |
Shara |
I haven't said it should be |
19:02 |
IhrFussel |
They could just add a simple "Are you sure you want to do this?" prompt for /clearobjects |
19:02 |
red-001 |
Raven262, it's a joke |
19:02 |
red-001 |
running rot13 twice just decodoes the message |
19:02 |
Shara |
Fussel, issue/PR then? |
19:04 |
IhrFussel |
I would even argue that the prompt should be shown in both cases /clearobjects and /clearobjects quick ... quick is not as bad as full but it still immediately removes certain objects without warning |
19:05 |
red-001 |
it's the it's the bases of a very secure crypter known as rot26 |
19:10 |
IhrFussel |
I hope it's correctly described https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/6918 |
19:11 |
Krock |
run it three times for the superior encryption. also works the same way with others like sha1 or md5 |
19:11 |
Krock |
whereas the latter two need at least a million calls to make it slow and somewhat encrypted /s |
19:12 |
red-001 |
yeah all my important documents are tripple md5 encrypted |
