16:37 IhrFussel Is it possible that 0.4.17 somehow got a stricter anticheat?
16:37 IhrFussel The server suddenly stops me in a car at a certain speed even though it's the same max_speed that I set in 0.4.16
16:40 IhrFussel That's weird, debug.txt doesn't mention "moved too fast"
16:47 Fixer heh
16:47 Fixer more good bugreports from IhrFussel
16:48 Fixer IhrFussel: for NY related stuff just read todays logs
16:49 IhrFussel Fixer, not sure yet if it's just my vehicle mod or the server version ... but it worked fine in 0.4.16 a few days ago
16:49 IhrFussel And I only stop when I cross a certain speed with the car
16:50 IhrFussel Will restart the server now and test again
16:52 benrob0329 Hmm, Cafu engine has issues from way back in 2012
16:52 Fixer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLnLGP4YcJg
16:52 benrob0329 Issues that don't appear to be valid either
16:56 IhrFussel Still happens to me after server restart and client restart ... will ask other players now

17:38 IhrFussel Why do carts decelerate so fast when driving uphill?? Feels too instant IMO
17:40 lisac IhrFussel: Why decelerate at all? Gravity is but a social construct
17:40 EvergreenTree joined #minetest-hub
17:44 Krock IhrFussel, boost_cart solves that issue for you :P
17:44 benrob0329 Why were carts merged again before we fix the major lag issues with vehicles?
17:45 benrob0329 -again
17:45 Krock uhm doesn't the vehicle lag largely depend on the on_step efficiency (C++ calls)?
17:46 benrob0329 Somewhat, yes. But it is possibly for vehicles to calculate the distance using dtime (if carts dont do that already)
17:46 benrob0329 *possible
17:47 Krock at least boost_cart does that. The backport PR isn't done for MTG however
17:47 Krock surely it is possible
17:47 Krock you have all you need: dtime, the velocity and acceleration
17:47 benrob0329 Single block forceloading would be nice, for rails
17:48 benrob0329 That way you could transport materials via carts
17:48 benrob0329 Its funny, people complain that we are copying MC, MCers complain that we are copying MC, people deny that we are copying MC, but...
17:49 benrob0329 We add boats, then carts, in a voxel game as the only two vehicles
17:49 Krock technically that's already possible, as the carts have a pathfinding function for rails. Here's the performance on a local server @ 0.2s step: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agxaKhSl_2s

17:49 tenplus1 happy new year all
17:49 Krock hi tenplus1
17:49 Krock happy new year
17:50 tenplus1 :PPPPPP
17:50 benrob0329 o/ tenplus1
17:50 tenplus1 hey Krock
17:50 tenplus1 hi benrob
17:50 tenplus1 ooh, Mobs Redo API updated to fix spawn issue
17:50 Krock benrob0329, the problem with forceloading is that one has to determinate what cart should be forceloaded (i.e. something like mesecart) or not, to reduce the server load
17:51 benrob0329 Krock: that video look terrifying
17:51 tenplus1 when forceloading an entity position, willit load entire block and keep it in memory until entity is out of it ?
17:51 benrob0329 We dont have entity forceloading afaik
17:51 Raven262 Hi ten and happy New Year.
17:51 tenplus1 for positions then
17:52 tenplus1 hi raven :p
17:52 Calinou hi :)
17:52 Calinou happy new year!
17:52 tenplus1 hey Cal
17:52 Krock o/ Calinou. Happy new year
17:52 benrob0329 You'd need to load/unload the map
17:52 Raven262 Hi Calinou.
17:52 tenplus1 was thinking if I forceloaded a position at say 1000,10,1000 then stopped, would it eventually time out and remove from memory ?
17:52 benrob0329 Although you could potentially call emerge_block on a small portion of the map around the cart
17:53 benrob0329 tenplus1: forceloads never expire
17:53 benrob0329 You'd need to manually un-forceload it
17:53 tenplus1 that's not good...  would hope that eventually it'd do it itself like player blocks loaded...  hrm...
17:53 benrob0329 No, forceload is supposed to be static
17:54 benrob0329 For things which need to stay loaded
17:54 benrob0329 Perhaps carts turn into nodes once stopped
17:55 tenplus1 I have a timer added so that 10 seconds without a player inside makes it drop as item
17:56 benrob0329 That doesnt help long distance item travel or the entity count
18:01 tenplus1 so you would have to calculate cart trajectory and forceload block it's in while unloading blocks it just left... that sounds laggy
18:05 * Shara thinks about all the horrors she has seen players accomplish with carts and shudders
18:06 tenplus1 hi shara
18:06 Shara Hi Ten
18:06 Shara How's it going? :)
18:06 tenplus1 ooh fireworks... or a gunshot ..
18:06 * tenplus1 hopes it's fireworkd
18:06 Shara :D
18:07 tenplus1 am okie, had NY meal with mom :) am home nursing a sore tummy
18:07 Shara Too much food? :P
18:07 tenplus1 also just updated mobs api with fix :P
18:08 tenplus1 yeah, had steak pie, enough to choke a horse
18:08 Shara I just bought christmas puddings in the sale :P
18:08 tenplus1 ehe, so many sales :P
18:08 tenplus1 discounted xmas stuff for next year
18:09 Shara Hehe
18:09 Shara I don't care about most of the sales, but good food for cheap is always welcome :P
18:09 tenplus1 +1million
18:10 Calinou just like Steam sales :P
18:10 tenplus1 ooh, havent even checked out steam today... too scared... or at least my wallet is
18:10 Shara hehehe
18:11 Shara I'm mostly okay to look... very difficult for me to find much I want
18:11 tenplus1 I try and wait for humble bundle monthly before getting anything new, least that way I can pay 10 quid for 6 games :D
18:11 Calinou I bought many games on the Black Friday sale, and haven't played any of them yet
18:11 Calinou due to lack of time :/
18:12 tenplus1 last one I got and completed was "Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet" which was awesome
18:13 Calinou I bought Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Just Cause Collection (JC 1/2/3 + all DLCs), Thief Collection (all Thief games), Dishonored, Mass Effect Collection, Tomb Raider GOTY Edition and System Shock 2
18:13 Calinou American Truck Simulator too
18:14 tenplus1 oof, and what have you played so far ? :P
18:14 Calinou none :(
18:14 Calinou it's too late to ask for a refund now
18:14 tenplus1 lolol
18:14 Calinou also, I switched back to Linux last month
18:15 Calinou most of these games have native Linux ports, but not all
18:15 tenplus1 which one ?
18:15 Calinou (some are known to run well in WINE though)
18:15 tenplus1 wine 3.0x has great support, even for dx12
18:15 Calinou they all have native Linux ports, except Just Cause (JC 1/2 work well in WINE according to the AppDB) and Mass Effect (they also work well in WINE)
18:16 Calinou reminds me, I asked a question in #winehq about GTA III widescreen :P
18:16 tenplus1 sorry, what linux ? :P
18:16 Calinou (loading the widescreen fix, which is an .asi file)
18:16 Calinou Fedora 27
18:16 tenplus1 ahh
18:16 Calinou I'm using the package from repositories, which is WINE staging 2.20
18:16 Shara Given the types of things Steam recommends for me, no wonder I never find anything :D
18:17 tenplus1 last big game I played until completion was 2005 Psychonauts :P
18:17 Calinou I've had Steam recommend me Goat Simulator
18:17 Calinou tenplus1: currently playing Quake 2 campaign on Nightmare
18:17 tenplus1 ahaha, I got that in humble bundle pack with dlc
18:17 Calinou it's actually fairly easy
18:17 Calinou Quake on Nightmare is harder, but it's very much doable
18:17 * tenplus1 has itchy trigger finger
18:18 Shara Well, it just came up with "Shower with Your Dad Simulator" which is wonderfully ridiculous sounding, but without even looking at it, I'm pretty sure I won't be buying :P
18:18 Calinou oh yeah, that one too
18:18 Calinou joke games that people gift to other people as jokes
18:18 tenplus1 o.O - that's a thing ????
18:18 tenplus1 sounds kinda... well... creepy
18:19 Shara The next offering is "Spirits of Xanadu" ... maybe it's telling me I should just head back to MT already for my gaming needs?
18:19 tenplus1 ahahaha
18:19 tenplus1 we added mob fences the other day and it's stopping escapes ;P
18:20 tenplus1 am thinking of a mob tool, click any mob and you can place it in idle (meaning low cpu/lag cause it just stands there) or other modes
18:25 benrob0329 tenplus1: not forceload, just load
18:25 benrob0329 A little bit around the cart
18:30 Sokomine tenplus1: are you sure? mobs are notoriously good at escaping. i stopped wondering when a lamb glitched through the floor and died of suffocation. it was a while back
18:30 Sokomine tenplus1: add sleeping for the mobs! just needs another animation...
18:31 tenplus1 suffocation was disabled by default a few updates ago, and the glitches only happen when stepheight is higher than block height and sadly happens with ALL entities and not just mobs... but, mob fence has collision of 2.0 high so it cant glitch through :D
18:31 Sokomine also, mobs eating grass may take a while to complete a patch of grassland. they're all wandering too much around
18:31 tenplus1 my pet chicken Betty is still in her pen :D
18:32 Shara Every time I check Xanadu, I have one animal less than before :P
18:32 Sokomine tenplus1: wait until one of the foxes on sharas servers spot your chicken
18:32 Shara Hehehe
18:32 tenplus1 erk, you can add the attack only line so they can really attack chickens :D
18:32 tenplus1 it's in api
18:32 Shara Tempting.
18:34 Calinou also, the Xbox One V3 controller still doesn't work in Bluetooth on Linux :(
18:34 Calinou even with kernel 4.14
18:34 Calinou (it constantly connects and disconnects when trying to pair it)
18:34 tenplus1 use it on usb cable
18:34 Calinou that works, but I prefer wireless
18:34 benrob0329 Y'know, we could make an enderman style mob by attaching an entity to a bone between the eyes, and checking if player are pointing at it
18:34 Calinou my setup makes it nicer to use wireless too
18:35 benrob0329 *players
18:36 tenplus1 ben, could use on_custom to check player Y pos and ender y pos and check vertical_look to see if it's staring at you, or you at it ebfore attack
18:36 Fixer joined #minetest-hub
18:36 tenplus1 hi fixer
18:36 benrob0329 tenplus1: but its specifically the eyes
18:36 tenplus1 yup
18:36 tenplus1 can be done
18:38 tenplus1 compare Y pos for both and if player look vertical is > 0 then staring into eyes.... if player y+1 and vertical = 0 then staring into eyes :) anything above or below isnt needed

18:58 Fixer hi tenplus1
18:58 tenplus1 o/
18:58 tenplus1 happah new year :D
18:58 Fixer from what i see this december was literally the warmest I've seen
18:58 Fixer tenplus1: you too
18:59 Fixer don't want to recongrat everyone, you can read the logs
18:59 tenplus1 ehehehe
18:59 tenplus1 and yeah, been a very mild winter...  8c here now... weird since it was snowing the other day
19:01 Fixer tenplus1: i have not seen snow yet
19:16 Sokomine no snow here either. white christmas is rare; around silvester/new year, snow or at least freezing temperatures are common. has been too hot this year
19:19 CWz what's with all the spambots
19:19 tenplus1 hi CWz, what spambots ?
19:28 benrob0329 Idea: a materials system
19:28 tenplus1 explain ?
19:28 benrob0329 Rather than having special groups and custom drawtypes, have a materials system
19:29 tenplus1 explain more ? :P
19:29 benrob0329 For example, materials = {waving = 2}
19:30 benrob0329 I'd be defined like textures, each slot is a different mesh/nodebox material
19:30 tenplus1 hrm
19:30 tenplus1 what advantages would that have over simple registry ?
19:31 benrob0329 materials = {"diffuse", "skybox"}
19:31 benrob0329 Different parts can have different materials
19:31 tenplus1 it sounds complicated
19:32 benrob0329 For a cuboid node, each face could be different
19:32 benrob0329 But then you don't have custom drawtypes for everything
19:32 benrob0329 Drawtypes can be kept to mesh differences
19:33 tenplus1 am trying but I cant see the benefits over current setup
19:33 benrob0329 More flexible, more future proof
19:33 tenplus1 you'd have to explain it all in detail with examples... :P but am sure it has benefits
19:34 benrob0329 Imagine you want say, a doorway, with the center being a custom skybox
19:34 benrob0329 drawtype = "mesh"
19:35 benrob0329 textures = {"boarder", "custom_skybox"}
19:35 benrob0329 materials = {"diffuse", "skybox"}
19:36 benrob0329 You would have a model, with the boarder being rendered normally, and the inner part being rendered like IGNORE, but with a custom skybox
19:37 benrob0329 Or, you could have flowerpots where only the flower waves
19:37 tenplus1 hrm
19:38 benrob0329 Or branches with waving leaves
19:39 tenplus1 interesting
19:40 benrob0329 Or perhaps a minimap material, or bathtubs with water

19:47 benrob0329 This is the best elevator mod I've seen yet: https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?p=259505
19:49 tenplus1 ooh, looks good
19:49 benrob0329 A rather heavy server (linux gaming the next generation or something) uses it and it still worked really well
19:49 benrob0329 Needs vanilla recipies for like 3 items
19:50 benrob0329 Probably glass and steel for the shaft and elevator, and steel + copper for the motor

19:55 benrob0329 tenplus1: what do you think of reducing fast mode, and tying sprint into the distance traveled
19:56 tenplus1 in default ?
19:56 benrob0329 I think it would help with lag from constant key polling
19:56 tenplus1 so drop fast speed to speed of sprint only ?
19:56 tenplus1 I like that better, but builders/admin wouldnt be happy
19:56 benrob0329 You have speed modifier items though
19:57 benrob0329 I'm using fast on a private server, works really well
19:57 benrob0329 Just need to tie hunger into distance
19:58 tenplus1 heh
19:58 benrob0329 Sprint mod was really laggy on it
19:58 Sokomine benrob0329: be happy with the subgame AdventureTest and leave other servers in peace
19:59 benrob0329 Sokomine: never played it
19:59 tenplus1 lol...  I do like normal sprint being apart from fast, but I poll at 0.5ms to save lag
20:00 Shara Don't mess with fast >.>
20:00 benrob0329 fast is beautiful as sprint
20:00 benrob0329 So smooth and not lag inducing
20:00 * tenplus1 prefers modded sprint mod on xanadu :D
20:01 Shara fast is already generally too slow for me :P
20:02 benrob0329 I should make a mod that changes FOV based on speed
20:02 benrob0329 But then again, it'd probably be laggy
20:02 benrob0329 This is where CSM should come in imo
20:03 tenplus1 *shudder*

21:00 tenplus1 Question: Should Protector Redo cache player privs (protector_bypass) on join so that when digging it doesn't have to check each time ???
21:00 Krock Fixer, not the same genre but I hope you know the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgOGxPHV3QE (piano skills!)
21:01 Krock tenplus1, not much of an optimization
21:01 tenplus1 ..or.. would live checking work best incase admin grants/revokes said priv ?
21:01 Krock you can always cache it on join and set a trigger on grant/revoke to have up-to-date privs
21:01 tenplus1 yeah, 1000 checks only uses 0.13ms on my crappy system, and server is a LOT faster
21:01 Fixer Krock: very nice
21:03 tenplus1 there's a function for on_grant on_revoke ?
21:05 sofar isn't there an event for changes?
21:05 Krock added after 0.4.16 stable IIRC

23:11 rubenwardy we currently have a single sound pack, but no way to select from multiple choices
23:13 tumeninodes do you think it would be worth the work? that's my concern
23:13 rubenwardy not really
23:13 rubenwardy I've not seen any sound packs on the forum
23:13 rubenwardy unless you can correct me
23:14 rubenwardy in theory it's a nice feature though
23:14 rubenwardy it's just that making sounds is much harder than making textures
23:14 tumeninodes well, that is because the feature is not available, I would think ;)  No one has thought to make one yet because the option does not exist
23:15 rubenwardy it is
23:15 rubenwardy you can put sounds in the "sounds" folder
23:15 rubenwardy they're not the same as texture packs though, as in you put sounds in there to override sounds. You can select a sound pack or opt to use default sounds
23:16 rubenwardy there isn't a section on the forum for this, however
23:16 rubenwardy and it's not particularly well documented
23:16 tumeninodes oh weally? haha j/k
23:19 tumeninodes I had only thought about it because, I was thinking it would be cool to have a sound pack which accompanies one of the TP I have been working on
23:20 tumeninodes so it would gibe the player a different experience both visually and audibly
23:21 tumeninodes but to make it very user friendly so end users don't have to mess around with files and folders etc.
23:21 rubenwardy yeah
23:22 rubenwardy I'd prefer texture and sound packs to be the same thing
23:22 rubenwardy as they're both just media
23:22 tumeninodes exactically
23:22 rubenwardy then you could make a media pack with both
23:22 sofar and models
23:22 tumeninodes oh... even better
23:22 rubenwardy are models sent as media?
23:22 rubenwardy I've not studied this section
23:22 sofar models are media, yes
23:23 tumeninodes yep, models too
23:23 tumeninodes so it would be re-termed selecting a "media pack"
23:24 tumeninodes which would mean a media-pack could have just one of these types, or all, etc..
23:25 tumeninodes this just got more interesting for me
23:27 tumeninodes sofar, possibly skyboxes could included as well
23:29 tumeninodes afk, for food consumption
23:33 sofar no, skyboxes aren't media, not in the way you think
23:33 sofar the normal game doesn't use textures, so adding new skybox textures achieves nothing
23:33 Calinou indeed, Lua code needs to be used so that skyboxes are used
23:41 rubenwardy 2017-12-30 08:39:19: ERROR[CurlFetch]: servers.minetest.net/announce not found (HTTP response code said error) (response code 502)
23:41 rubenwardy huh
23:43 rubenwardy WARNING[Server]: ScriptApiBase::objectrefGetOrCreate(): Pushing ObjectRef to removed/deactivated object, this is probably a bug.
23:43 rubenwardy double huh
