Time Nick Message 00:03 rubenwardy Luatic: one has ten helpful votes 00:03 rubenwardy That badge is a sum of all `helpful - unhelpful` and then +1 for each review 00:06 MTDiscord Sort of like the author of the review themselves considering their own reviews to be helpful by default ... kinda makes sense, yeah. 00:07 MTDiscord IIRC we only expose the ranking on the CDB UI, but raw scores are possible on the back-end. 01:57 MTDiscord Here's a forum thread for the community voting discussion https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=29858 08:45 erle ”sum of all `helpful - unhelpful` and then +1 for each review” … do i just need to spam reviews or what to be helpful :D 08:46 erle i mean i don't 08:46 erle but like 08:46 erle there are so many reviews that are just “good game” or so 08:46 erle which does not give me more info than “can recommend” 11:22 MTDiscord You get judged in helpfulness by other community members. If others are bothered to rate your review helpful or unhelpful it is because it struck them as needing rating 11:25 MTDiscord So actual spam tends to be marked unhelpful, and detailed reviews tend to be marked helpful 11:25 erle i have also seen detailed reviews that people disagree with on marked unhelpful, but it's not too common 11:26 erle like, a review can describe something in a helpful way and i can disagree with how the reviewer values that 11:26 erle that would still be helpful 11:26 erle i think the issue here is the same as with almost every upvote/downvote system 11:26 erle people use a downvote for both “this is unhelpful/spam” and “i disagree” 11:26 MTDiscord Well, during other jams there were small battles between disagreers and honest helpful markers 11:27 erle elaborate? 11:27 MTDiscord 1) a review would be posted, and it was detailed 11:28 MTDiscord 2) some people would mark it helpful, some would mark in unhelpful because they didn't want it to count 11:29 MTDiscord 3) people would notice and post about it here on social media to conscript people to go mark it helpful if they thought it was helpful 11:32 MTDiscord I'm not sure that we are planning to let jam reviews be marked unhelpful this time. We might just use a reviewer's past helpfulness to weight helpful reviewer's reviews more than new or unhelpful reviewer's reviews 12:45 MTDiscord People using "unhelpful" as "this is a good review but I disagree with your conclusions" are still generally a minority. You might end up with a review here or there where those kind of things dominate, but over the bigger picture, more mature voices tend to dominate, because the people who bother to interact with the review system at all tend to lean more conscientious. 12:47 MTDiscord If you ever really do find yourself with most of your helpfulness dominated by "I disagree" kinds of responses, then it makes me wonder if you need to reconsider the kinds of packages you're reviewing in the first place, i.e. if most of what you have to say is about packages that attract less mature audiences who don't properly consider the review on its merits, maybe that DOES say something about you? Anyway, I don't think I've actually 12:47 MTDiscord seen that actually be the case real reviewers. 15:32 erle warr1024 it is certainly not the common case. it is just something i noticed. 15:34 MTDiscord Yeah, it's annoying, but the fact that being a small community causes useful trends to be buried in noise is usually a bigger problem for us. 15:35 MTDiscord Like, if you've got enough data, you get to Central Limit Theorem away most of the noise, but we never get that much and so we never get to be confident in our outcomes. 15:39 erle indeed 15:39 erle i wonder how well slashdot meta-moderation fared
