I would like to add a potato grater item that when placed on a crafting table with a bunch of potatoes produces mashed potatoes and its 'health' is reduced. I have two questions: how do I add health to an item that is not a tool. Do i use tool_capabilities with some groupcap? Also how do I reduce this in a crafting, perhaps I should use minetest.register_on_craft? 17:51 Krock gera: the trick is to register the item as a tool and then abuse the wear level 17:52 Krock in a first step you could try to make use of the craft replacements feature (item is kept in the crafting table) 17:54 Krock and then process the crafting table afterwards to wear down the item. The anvil mod for example solves this by putting your items (pickaxe -> potato) as item entities (objects) onto a node (anvil -> grater) which can then be punched with the tool which then does the processing steps 17:57 gera thanks i'll look into that 18:20 jonadab lissobone: Minetest in Emacs in Minetest? 18:21 jonadab Eh, Emacs in Minetest in Emacs would probably perform better. 18:24 jonadab And yeah, the potato grater thing sounds similar in principle to the anvil, although I don't remember anvils losing durability. 18:24 jonadab Though the mallets do. 23:21 cheapie Making some more progress on this mod here, the controller UI sucks a lot less now: https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20230803_224455.png (yes, all of those switches and buttons work :D) 23:22 cheapie The call buttons, lanterns, and PIs are also done: https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20230804_182033.png 23:23 cheapie https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20230804_102445.png https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20230804_150130.png 23:27 cheapie Still no COP (or car to put it in...), group operation, or any special modes to put it in aside from the ones there. Those are coming... soonish, probably.
