Time Nick Message 03:28 Guest64 Hello.  I just had a quick question.  I can't find how to use the HV MV LV transformers.  I have a HV line out from the nuclear power plant but I am not sure how to connect it. 03:29 MTDiscord you have to use the supply converters to change power levels 03:29 MTDiscord the transformers are just craft items for making other machines, etc 05:47 Oblomov I don't suppose left-handed wielding (not double wielding, simply wielding with the left) is planned, is it? 06:03 lurker_8473 That sounds interesting 06:06 fluxionary Oblomov: probably not before double-hand wielding. 06:07 Oblomov fluxionary: to avoid branch conflicts or what? 09:39 MTDiscord hi guys! 09:41 MTDiscord a quick question: does the name of a function's argument in .h matter? and does it have to be the same when defining the function in the corresponding .cpp file? 09:42 rubenwardy technically doesn't matter, but it should be for best practices 09:43 MTDiscord ok! just a slight typo to be fixed in a function's argument name in .h file. The name in .cpp is correctly spelled. So now the two names are different, but when the typo will be fixed they will be the same as intended 09:46 MTDiscord another question, just to double checked: Are po files the only ones where typos shouldn't be fixed from the source? I think there are other translation-related files elsewhere, like in builtin/locale. And maybe there are other files too that shouldn't be touched? 10:14 lissobone Another question. 10:14 lissobone What's the thing with crypto in minetest? 10:15 lissobone I've seen some particular servers with it, but what's the point? 10:16 rubenwardy it's important for security, HTTPS protects downloads from ContentDB and Secure Remote Password uses a zero trust proof allowing clients to prove they know their password without sending it to the server 10:27 lebruhgamer[m] I'm guessing they meant 'cryptocurrency' by that even though it's misleading, instead of the commonly accepted meaning of 'crypto' being 'cryptography' that's used in HTTPS, SRP and others 10:28 lissobone No, I mean... 10:29 lissobone Yeah, cryptocurrencies, mining, earning and etc. 10:29 lissobone I KNOW that actual cryptography such as SSL or TLS is a very significant part of any internet connection that requires at least minimal security and etc and etc. 10:29 lissobone What's the thing with cryptocurrencies? 10:30 lissobone Why do people talk about it? 10:31 lebruhgamer[m] it's just one of many different topics, why would you want to know why people talk about it? 10:31 lebruhgamer[m] if someone talk about food, would you ask the same? 10:31 lissobone It appears sort of strange for me. 10:31 lissobone No, foodMOSQUITO (it's on my display). 10:32 lissobone It's gone (don't mind the mosquito). 10:32 MTDiscord people talk about crypto because people talk about crypto 10:32 lissobone Food is a natural recognition of necessity, and it should not be put in comparison. 10:32 MTDiscord (too often there's nothing but hot air behind hyped crypto) 10:32 MTDiscord agreed with lissobone 10:33 lebruhgamer[m] then would you also ask about it if people talked about war? 10:33 lissobone It appears that you didn't understand me quite right. 10:33 lebruhgamer[m] like "why do people talk about war? it doesn't affect me" 10:34 lissobone I don't get the point behind cryptocurrencies in minetest. 10:34 lissobone No, war will affect me inevitably. 10:34 lissobone Especially if I return to my homeland. 10:35 lebruhgamer[m] cryptocurrencies are basically everywhere, whether you realize it or not 10:35 lebruhgamer[m] not just specific to minetest 10:36 lebruhgamer[m] even if minecraft banned it there's still cryptocurrency on that side for example, even if they run to minetest and other platforms 10:36 lebruhgamer[m] *some of them 10:36 lebruhgamer[m] there's even some on Roblox, though not sure if it's banned or not there 10:37 lissobone I just feel that it's weird to combine a voxel game and such economical concepts like cryptocurrencies. 10:37 definitelya If something exists online, there are cryptocurrency-heads trying to shill with/on it. 10:37 lebruhgamer[m] >economical concepts 10:37 lebruhgamer[m] Minegeld has left the chat 10:38 lebruhgamer[m] *"Capitalist Game" has left the chat* 10:38 definitelya God has... you get it. 10:44 lissobone Appears that I am not destined to comprehend the complexity of capitalism. 11:22 MTDiscord lebruhgamer[m]: You still haven't provided any justification for why people should talk about cryptocurrencies except for the claim that they are "basically everywhere" which is simply not true. 11:22 MTDiscord Nobody said cryptocurrencies should be banned from Minetest. 11:27 lissobone They shouldn't, as nothing should be banned, in fact, but I wish to know who benefits from them and why are cryptocurrency-related servers gaining popularity. 13:13 lebruhgamer[m] I didn't say that people should talk about cryptocurrency though?? 13:13 lebruhgamer[m] I'm just saying that there should be no reason to ask people about it 13:14 lebruhgamer[m] basically, let them be if they want to do cryptocurrency stuff, don't need to argue about it 13:15 lebruhgamer[m] if you don't like it then just look elsewhere, there's many other stuff as well 13:15 lebruhgamer[m] play some nodecore or ctf or something, or go touch some grass 13:20 lissobone First, you're being slightly rude, second, you're not providing an answer I asked for. 13:20 lissobone There's no need to be overprotective in the current scenario. 13:21 lissobone I just asked what's the thing with cryptocurrencies in minetest and why are servers related to it gaining popularity. 13:24 lissobone And yes, there is a reason to ask people about it. 13:24 MTDiscord lebruhgamer[m]: The same argument can recursively be applied to you arguing against arguing: Let them argue if they want to argue, don't need to argue about it. 13:24 lissobone Curiosity. 13:25 MTDiscord "justification" was too strong a word (suggesting that it would be illegitimate); I should've said "reasons" 13:26 MTDiscord anyways, I suspect that the current crypto servers are nothing but a bubble, but who knows when it'll burst (i.e. when players will start to realize that the rewards they believe they are getting are actually immaterial and won't materialize in the near future) 13:28 lissobone How does it even work? Do they spend their time playing on the server, motivated by previously mentioned rewards, while also mining crypto in background, or how? 13:32 MTDiscord It has always been a problem of the serverlist that it goes by raw quantities rather than quality of gameplay. Originally this was a major problem with the MultiCraft servers, who had lots and lots of mobile users but very little gameplay; the "fix" for this was to penalize MuC for their support of older protocol versions, as this could be used as a clear indicator that a certain quality of gameplay that requires newer protocol versions 13:32 MTDiscord could not possibly be supported. Now we have the same problem again with the PAW crypto server. The server is a bland anarchy-ish one with a modding soup. Nothing interesting happens there. But it pays out presumably worthless rewards to players simply for playing on the server (which is entirely backwards); the players don't seem to be generating any value through their activity (except for the high serverlist rating, which might be seen as a 13:32 MTDiscord "value"). Servers like AES or CTF provide high-quality gameplay, but this currently is not and can not be rewarded by the serverlist as there is no option for players to "review" servers like the reviews on CDB. You would hope that the numbers of players reflect the quality of the gameplay but unfortunately this is not the case due to "noobs" (mostly mobile players). 13:34 lissobone Yeah, I often play on rubenwardy's CTF. 13:34 lissobone I even got a cool Halloween hat. 13:35 MTDiscord Technically it's LandarVargan's CTF now hehe (rubenwardy passed it on to LandarVargan a while ago already) 13:35 lissobone The address itself just says that it's rubenwardy's, so I automatically assumed that it is. 13:36 MTDiscord It is maintained by LandarVargan now. 13:36 lissobone Ok, thanks for information. 13:36 lissobone My main question though was if actions of players on crypto servers even benefit anyone or anything. 13:37 lissobone You answered it, as I understood. 13:37 lissobone Answer: no value. 13:37 MTDiscord I don't think they do, but feel free to find out for yourself. Just join and wander around a bit and see if anyone does anything useful. 13:37 lissobone I will do the Research. 13:37 lissobone I will give everyone a [Free value] and , 13:38 lissobone The average amount of players on paw's crypto server has significantly rose since I first noticed it: from 36 to 78. 13:38 lissobone Wait. 13:38 lissobone Not paw's, it's just PAW. 13:39 lissobone My limbs sometimes deactivate while I am walking. 13:40 MTDiscord I mean, the server description literally is "Minetest server that pays out rewards in PAW" 13:41 lissobone That server already frightens me. 13:42 lissobone The nicknames of new players appear to be randomly generated. 13:44 lissobone I liked the laptops though. 13:44 InFerNo__ is there a way to tell which version of a mod a server is running? 13:44 lissobone But the connection is horrible. 13:45 lissobone Hmm. Let me test if there's a way. 13:45 lissobone There is definitely a programmatic way. 13:45 lissobone But not always, I think. 13:46 lissobone There is the 'release' option in mod.conf, right? 13:46 lissobone No, there's no way, as far as I know. 14:18 MTDiscord Server reviews would be, at minimum, a shitstorm of "their staff sucks (because they banned me)". Servers are also sort of indirectly reviewed on CDB via game reviews. 14:26 lissobone Unless a server doesn't run its own game, like my specil server with world war 4 ongoing. 14:28 lissobone Wait, the game still gets reviewed. 14:28 lissobone And the mods. 14:37 MTDiscord Right 14:38 MTDiscord And for servers that build large complex games and don't publish them, then I guess the review is 👎 proprietary. 17:03 not-elb Hi all ... I have a player on a years-old server (currently running 5.5.1) whose client crashed and then the player character was killed while the client was crashed, and now every time they log in they're "dead" but they can do things.  They can't interact with the world (mining fails, for example), but they can move around and see their own dead 17:03 not-elb body. 17:04 not-elb Using /killme or /kill username just reports that they're already dead 17:04 not-elb Other users don't seem to be having trouble, and the server is operating normally in most respects 17:04 not-elb Any ideas how to fix this? 17:05 not-elb (I can try updating to 5.6.1, but that's kind of a big deal, and it's a private server, so unless there's an expectation that it will fix the bug, I'd rather not just do it to be doing it) 17:06 MTDiscord have you tried setting their hp to something nonzero, then killing them? 17:06 MTDiscord Setting their hp to non zero probably will fix it already 17:07 MTDiscord e.g. //lua minetest.get_player_by_name"":set_hp(20) if you have WorldEdit 17:07 MTDiscord the player must be online for it to work 17:07 not-elb I don't have worldedit; can I do this from the server console? 17:07 MTDiscord in case something messed with hp max, :set_properties{hp_max = 20} might also be useful 17:07 MTDiscord which server console? 17:08 not-elb --terminal 17:08 MTDiscord that is no console 17:08 MTDiscord it only prints logs etc. 17:08 not-elb hmmm it looks like updating to 5.6.1 might be "easy", let me try that while i'm here 17:08 not-elb it also takes some commands (or used to), but I don't know what 17:08 MTDiscord That won't fix it 17:09 not-elb if I shut down the server, can I just edit the player's database status? 17:09 not-elb give them a few hp 17:09 MTDiscord Sure. Should be stored in sqlite database. 17:11 MTDiscord yes, it is stored there 17:12 not-elb yeah I just set hp = 1, waiting for the player to log on 17:12 MTDiscord I've found calling player:respawn() is successful for me 17:12 MTDiscord But of course only works if you are able to run code 17:15 not-elb setting hp = 1 worked, only problem was having to bounce the server 17:15 not-elb thanks a lot! 20:00 MinetestBot 02[git] 04Wuzzy2 -> 03minetest/minetest: DevTest: Move experimental items to other mods 1368df0fb https://github.com/minetest/minetest/commit/68df0fb2ea0b0e6ba5ca27216d864e4843e8bdc4 (152022-10-23T19:58:56Z) 22:31 mtdew I am trying to build a fuel rod....I have the 3.5% Fissile Uranium Dust....but now what? Any help would be appreciated. 23:15 mtdew Got it!! 23:19 muurkha great!
