Time Nick Message 09:48 MinetestBot 02[git] 04osjc -> 03minetest/minetest: Optimize subgames search a little bit (#8096) 136e37fdc https://git.io/fhRkm (152019-01-18T09:47:50Z) 09:54 Xiong In vanilla 5.0.0 w/ v7, at what depth is max abundance reached for all things? 09:55 Xiong There have been changes; so far, I think, good. 10:31 twoelk -1024 probably 10:32 twoelk or have diamonds been pushed down? 10:42 twoelk Xion: http://irc.minetest.net/minetest/2019-01-16#i_5480823 10:50 * twoelk feels like carrying owls to Athens 12:11 Xiong twoelk I wonder about ds too. Mm, don't think meseblock even starts above -2000. 12:14 Xiong I have taken exactly 2 ds around -1150... none before or since. I'm told no mese at all above -512; this fits experience. 12:17 Xiong Yes paramat spoke to my initial confusion. I didn't think to ask about greater depths and max. 12:18 Xiong I think there may have always been an emergent effect, in which *effective* abundance does not follow generation 12:23 Xiong That's to say, for example, the walls and floors of a cave may have the same abundance of iron as solid rock does a hundred meters over at same depth. (Counting the air pocket, average abundance much less!) But because the volume of air exposes so much surface area to view, effective abundance is higher (richer yield per hour). 12:28 Xiong That's just one example. Once, another experienced player suggested iron (eg) might be less common at great depth because the mese crowds it out. Obviously if the generator randomly places mese without regard to the iron it just placed, this is true. Not sure of the practical effect. 12:28 Xiong Still interested: 12:29 Xiong In vanilla 5.0.0 w/ v7, at what depth is max abundance reached for all things? 12:29 calcul0n i never had this feeling about iron 12:30 calcul0n even if it's crowded by mese it's also much more frequent at big depths 12:30 Xiong If I've failed to be clear... a depth below which the world is, at large scale, homogeneous. 12:32 Xiong calcul0n Do you believe... independent of params set for individual ores... v7 steadily increases ore abundance with depth, without limit? 12:33 calcul0n iirc v7 in mt 0.4 has a max at -1024 12:33 calcul0n but i know nothing about changes in MT 5 12:33 Xiong Yes well. Wave of the future. 12:34 Xiong Given the reluctance of devs even to acknowledge suggestions about it, I'd guess 5.0.0 is nearly frozen, rollout soon. 12:35 rubenwardy 5.0.0 is in feature freeze 12:35 rubenwardy so bug fixes only 12:37 Xiong That's great rubenwardy. Sooner 5.0.0 is out, sooner longstanding issues can be fixed in 5.1 12:38 Xiong I'd really like to see a release where all effort has gone into usability, all the nasty little gubbins and dev stuff properly flagged away. 12:39 Xiong Meanwhile yes, I see significant improvements, even in the neglected Android version. 12:41 Xiong Oof! I thought I'd mine some more but it's time to eat real food. 15:12 paramat "In vanilla 5.0.0 w/ v7, at what depth is max abundance reached for all things?" Xiong , https://github.com/minetest/minetest_game/blob/a2c9523bce5bcefdc930ff6f14d6d94f57473be9/mods/default/mapgen.lua#L898 y = -4096 for mese block higher density 16:57 Xiong Thanks paramat. Has this been tested and, if so, how? 16:58 Xiong Gotta try reboot. 18:26 paramat tested? 18:27 rubenwardy the setting I guess 18:31 paramat hmm well we didn't test the new ore y limits, because y limits are known to already work 18:59 swift110 hmm 18:59 swift110 sup rubenwardy 19:06 rubenwardy o/ 19:06 rubenwardy exams :( 19:11 swift110 oh i see 19:11 swift110 have you done any more documents on minetest like you did before 19:14 rubenwardy huh? 19:14 rubenwardy do you mean the modding book? 19:14 rubenwardy !book 19:14 MinetestBot rubenwardy: Minetest Modding Book - https://rubenwardy.com/minetest_modding_book/ 19:37 swift110 yes 22:23 Ruslan1 Hello 23:46 Xiong Hi! 23:48 Xiong What's your thought for today?
