Time Nick Message 02:14 Xiong Why paramat? Until the Irrlicht bug is patched, singleplayer is alone viable for Android. And such users are less likely to know what to delete or even have a tool to do that. 02:49 VanessaE a wild kaeza appears! 02:50 kaeza VanessaE: o/ 02:50 VanessaE where the hell have you been??? 02:51 VanessaE we missed ya :)_ 02:57 kaeza Long story short, my computer broke on February. 02:58 VanessaE damn :( 02:58 VanessaE well, you've got 8 months worth of git to pull ;) 02:59 kaeza Plus I've had some problems IRL, so don't have much time lately. 02:59 pauloue Xiong, for 5.0 the Irrlicht bug is fixed and Android uses the full desktop menu so there is a delete button 02:59 VanessaE I understand. 03:00 VanessaE kaeza: glad you're still kickin' though :) 03:01 kaeza Sorry if I don't answer quickly; phone keyboards do suck. :P 03:01 kaeza Thanks! How have you been? 03:04 VanessaE oh I Know how that is - recently, bad weather knocked out my home internet for a few days, so all I had was my phone. 03:04 VanessaE I've been okay, same old same old, you know? 03:31 jordan4ibanez2 Hey, I've been busy with life for 2-3 years, what has changed? 03:31 jordan4ibanez2 Any new api or mods? 03:37 jordan4ibanez test 03:38 jordan4ibanez_ jeez 03:39 VanessaE wow 03:39 VanessaE all the old crowd showing up again 03:39 jordan4ibanez_ Who else? 03:40 jordan4ibanez_ I've been a mechanic and welder for years and I haven't found the time to show up here, I finally got my 1993 mx6 finished 03:40 jordan4ibanez_ Been taking up my time since august 03:41 VanessaE kaeza was here just a bit ago as well. 03:43 jordan4ibanez Holy shit 03:44 jordan4ibanez Once I have my car inspected I was going to create a full game, I've been putting it off for months due to RIs strict inspection laws taking up my time 03:44 jordan4ibanez How is kaeza doing 03:44 VanessaE who's gonna show up next, thefamilygrog66 ? :) 03:44 VanessaE he seemed okay, if stressed over thing that happened IRL 03:44 VanessaE (he was not specific, aside from his PC having broken down in Feb.) 03:45 jordan4ibanez Haha, if I saw sfan5 and jeija I'd be set 03:45 * VanessaE pokes sfan5 :P 03:45 jordan4ibanez There was one more person that we hung out with, he was in the west of the usa, I can't remember his name 03:45 VanessaE I haven't seen Jeija in here in ages, but he's still active-ish on github. 03:46 jordan4ibanez I always wanted to tell jeija, years ago I showed my friends, who I hang out with regularly, that they were amazed that he turned on his lights with this game, but I never got the chance 03:46 VanessaE heh 03:47 jordan4ibanez They were even amazed when they witnessed me showing off his alpha version of mesecons, and now these are hardened skateboarders that don't give a shit about computers, but I never told him 03:47 jordan4ibanez I should have 03:49 jordan4ibanez vanessae, have there been any mods or api improvements? 03:49 VanessaE plenty 03:49 jordan4ibanez like what 03:50 VanessaE I couldn't begin to enumerate though, but start here, https://content.minetest.net/users/VanessaE/ 03:50 VanessaE (then browse the rest of the site) 03:50 VanessaE 5.0.0 will be out soon-ish 03:51 VanessaE https://dev.minetest.net/Changelog#0.4.16_.E2.86.92_5.0.0_.28Not_yet_released.29 03:51 VanessaE (I guess in a couple of months, not sure) 05:10 Cornelia I am so excited for 5.0.0 06:17 mmbtrumpet Hi 06:17 mmbtrumpet Is there anyone on that might be able to help me? 06:18 mmbtrumpet I installed minetest on Mac os using homebrew but I can't figure out how to launch it. 07:54 jas_ hello 08:15 Xiong mmbtrumpet++ #bravery 08:18 Xiong pauloue Thanks for the Android news. It may be time for me to take the plunge 08:24 Xiong jordan4ibanez IMO the most important strides in recent years have been in stability. Also many mods have moved inward from fringe to mainstream to core 08:28 Xiong This is the kind of development I preach often to deaf ears. Many projects release new buggy features to loud acclaim but never fix the old bugs. The steady bughunt and consolidation work is less fun, less appreciated, and far more useful. 08:31 Xiong Special mention of VanessaE for what seems to amount to a huge pile of such maintenance work. I don't mean to slight others who are also working hard but VE really delivers. 08:32 VanessaE I deliver? *looks for tracking numbers* 08:32 VanessaE :) 08:34 Xiong Well I hesitate to award medals but you deserve sth. As I say, I don't often see sustained maintenance work. It's not one big flashy effort and might be overlooked 08:34 VanessaE I take litecoin ;) 08:37 Xiong I'm a deeply conservative engineer and progress in safety, stability, and reliability mean more to me than an ill-thought novelty Santa feature that exhales rainbow bubbles for a month and vanishes. Just me. 08:37 VanessaE I was joking :P 08:38 Xiong Dunno what litecoin is. Not doing so good piling up coin coin. Thinking of murder for hire or even telemarketing. 08:38 VanessaE don't overthink it 08:39 Xiong No? I can't decide between automatic or wheelgun. I do tend to preplan in detail. 08:41 Xiong I have many ideas but none look solid. Exploding Trump hats. 08:43 jas_ !server Glitchtest 08:43 MinetestBot jas_: Glitchtest | dcbl.duckdns.org | Clients: 0/15, 0/1 | Version: 5.0.0-dev / Glitchtest | Ping: 127ms 08:43 Xiong Ideally detonate upon detection of regressive political thought. Ono. Upstairs with that. 15:22 majochup wowie i have automatic voice :o 15:22 majochup rubenwardy 15:25 rubenwardy Hello 17:13 majochup wowie so thats all those messages the voice oof 17:15 majochup rubenwardy i am pinging u now ping me if u read this 17:16 majochup hi 17:20 majochup ❗ 17:20 majochup wow 18:40 majochup so any minetest-news ?? 18:48 Krock specify your category of interest 18:54 majochup lol Krock anything that includes minetest is ok 18:55 Krock New commit, 9 hours ago: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/commit/a5197eaebc6 18:56 majochup ok 18:56 majochup so server owners can see passwords then? 18:56 Krock lol no. it's about restricting client mods to access the player list. that's all 18:56 Krock nothing too special at all 18:57 majochup oof 18:57 majochup but do u got any topic i can help in? like a MT forum topic? 18:58 Krock basically all of them which aren't solved yet: https://forum.minetest.net/viewforum.php?f=6 18:58 Krock but I don't particularly have one for you 18:59 majochup k 18:59 majochup well just one i can talk in without knowing a WORD of coding (if u dont count my Basic knowledge) 19:01 Krock most of the topics there are setup issues; so if you know how Minetest works and a bit Linux and Windows knowledge you can help them already a bit 19:02 Krock otherwise you could also review mods and give the modders some feedback (if they're active) :D 19:03 Krock sometimes also people join the channel here, asking for help - so just staying in the channel and passively waiting for a topic where you can help works too 19:20 majochup k 19:20 majochup i am searching around the forums... 19:20 majochup lol 22:37 Xiong The chrome jinx is officially broken! I just got the first copper and tin of this trip... again to -1200... and already took 20 lumps of soon-to-be stainless. Now I can go back to grousing about mese like everyone else. 22:41 Xiong I want to blather about grousing I read from players around and about. One guy ranted about mining "literally millions" of nodes without finding a single lump of chrome. Well, I say, learn to mine better. It's not simple 22:43 Xiong In other worlds I've seen zinc at the surface; here I was hundreds below before finding one... and the shiny white even worse. Devs put in so much randomness you can't assume stuff. 22:46 Xiong Principles: (1) Take what you see. You may say you have enough coal but you'll want more. Take the single exposed coal then the coal behind that. If that's all you get, it's paid for the wear. You may uncover sth better. 22:49 Xiong (2) Follow the vein. Ores appear in veins, seams, clumps. There's often more if you peel off another layer of stone. Don't quit because the next lump is just out of reach. 22:52 Xiong (3) Know your ores. Each has particular character you cannot easily learn from docs or code analysis. Behind the randomness there's pattern. Find one mese block, there's often another one or two nearby. But usually it's unproductive to raze an 8x8x8 volume looking for more. 22:53 Xiong ... but other ores are found in more widespread veins. 22:53 Xiong Note mithril only spawns in singletons. 22:59 Xiong (4) Move on. There will be good and bad areas of a hundred blocks in any direction. Leave borrasca behind and seek bonanza. 23:03 Xiong (5) Be patient... not too much but if you're grousing loudly, maybe more. Mining is inherently a risky business... unlike, say, punching a clock or busting a gas station. Mining outcome is less certain. Of the storied forty-niners, virtually all went broke. Odds better in mt but still no guarantee. 23:07 Xiong (6) Did I say know your ores? The variable lighting underground confuses the eye. Tin can appear white but it's flat; silver has a greenish cast; chrome tints blue... and any can look like any other in weird light to tired eyes. A corner of yellow peeping out may be mese or gold. Another reason to take what you see and sort up top. 23:11 Xiong (7) Work lava. This point could turn into an essay, maybe a lecture series: hazards, tools, methods, various physics models. The key is that the walls and immediate neighborhoods of lava pits are often rich. I've confirmed this with devs: it's not mere perception. Lava is often worth the extra risk and work. 23:16 Xiong (8) Know your tools. Go down equipped. Blundering away with a diamond pick for an hour will get you a worn pick and much cobble. You make most progress with a range of tools wisely used. And... having done it... a technic quarry is not the final answer. An installation of several quarries driven by a reactor will indeed yield much stuff but by the time you can afford to build them and all necessary plant... you don't need the loot 23:17 Xiong ... and... be lucky!
