Fill with your favorite working block... in this case I may switch to pumice but I like stone tile. Pull a stack of microblock from the first output: topleft, a quarter meter square panel of minimum thickness. 01:54 Xiong This item has a number of peculiar qualities. Like all it fills the node so it excludes lava regardless of its small size. Unlike most things you can walk freely through the space it does not visually occupy. And unlike, say, a kalite torch, it is pointable. 01:56 Xiong Using this device you can walk a straight, level path through deep lava. You require no support beyond your initial entry. And it's reasonably safe. No sneak required! 02:01 Xiong Walk to the bare lava as far as practical and drop a tile (this microblock). Screwdriver it around so it is behind you... tile you lava. Actually you are sharing the node with the tile. Now you can point at this tile and place another... which will fill the node in front, displacing any lava. Repeat so both head and feet are protected and two more tiles are ahead. Rinse, repeat. 02:05 Xiong You can theoretically pass these quarter-meter panels when they face you but it's better to screwdriver them out of the way. So long as you don't dig it, it continues to hold back disaster. You can even walk on such things but I recommend something more conventional: plain cobble or obsidian glass. A fast floor can be had just by flooding with water. 02:08 Xiong Once you've progressed a few meters you may go back and attach whatever walls you please and remove the microblocks... so they aren't consumed. Check overhead first! 02:10 scr267 paramat: Done. 02:11 Xiong Bonus: As you place tiles into lava you will often have a clear view of mineral goodies. You can mine right past the tiles and grab them. The only real danger is overconfidence. ;) 02:12 Xiong Hi paramat! I too am done. What did you done? 02:12 scr267 Xiong: I was telling paramat that I'm done ;) 02:12 scr267 Xiong: Sounds cool your trick 02:15 Xiong My usual confusion, scr267. What done did you? 02:15 scr267 Xiong: bah, nothing important ... just opened an issue about minetestmapper's performance. :) 02:17 Xiong Hm. Best to port that thing. We don't all have capability to run arbitrary Python scripts. 02:18 scr267 Oh I was referring to the CPP version :) 02:19 Xiong Same same. Put a front end on it, package it for users. 02:20 Xiong ... port to Android be nice.... 02:21 scr267 yeah 02:25 Xiong Grrrrrr. A mouse has got into the headliner of my station wagon. I have decided it got in through a pillar, along a wire run. I'm not happy to share. 02:25 Xiong Also unwilling to rip out headliner. 02:26 scr267 :-/ 02:26 scr267 That's rather annoying. 02:26 scr267 I'm off for a bit... going AFK... 02:26 Xiong Enjoy! 02:27 Xiong *exunt* 07:30 triplehx3 who would i need to msg in order to reset my user/pass on the forums as i forgot them :) 07:48 MinetestBot 02[git] 04rubenwardy -> 03minetest/minetest: Android: Fix memory leak when displaying images in the mainmenu (#8011) 130990ddb https://git.io/fhJLB (152018-12-22T07:46:41Z) 16:36 MinetestBot 02[git] 04numberZero -> 03minetest/minetest: mapnode: add const/noexcept (#8009) 13309e158 https://git.io/fhJCZ (152018-12-22T16:36:24Z) 17:01 Xiong Well. Has anyone experience with gloop? I suspect it/them in connection with the changes to water-lava interaction. After all, gloop adds pumice and basalt generation. 17:05 Xiong I see water balk and fail to flow smoothly over lava... oddly, with a straight edge. When water source is sunk into the surface of lava source, only the five orthogonal neighbors are quenched to obsidian... not the diagonal neighbors. What's up? 17:05 VanessaE those behaviors are intentional. 17:06 VanessaE including the non-smooth flow 17:07 VanessaE not checking diagonally is a holdover from a while back, to allow technic geothermal gens to have water on two sides and lava on the opposite two sides. 17:08 Xiong Is this all gloop? 17:08 VanessaE gloopblocks* 17:08 VanessaE and yep. 17:08 Xiong There's also a glooptest. 17:08 VanessaE glooptest just adds some ores. 17:08 VanessaE (and makes iron and coal generate in desert stone) 17:09 Xiong Does glooptest also add the k torch? 17:09 VanessaE yes. 17:09 VanessaE if I remember right. 17:09 Xiong Hm. 17:10 VanessaE that one's nekogloop's mod and afaik isn't actively maintained. gloopblocks was his, too, but I maintain it now. 17:10 VanessaE (but since glooptest still works fine, there's nothing to maintain) 17:10 Xiong Pumice... and double geothermal output... is a high price to pay for the effect on mining operations. 17:11 VanessaE *shrug* 17:11 Xiong Well, I can't shrug it off. I'm the guy who's gotta dig. 17:11 VanessaE it also adds a "protective layer" over the lava cooling code - it's impossible to grief with 17:12 VanessaE (in any manner that's effective anyway_ 17:12 VanessaE ) 17:12 Xiong ? 17:12 Xiong I don't understand the mind of wreckers. 17:13 VanessaE in default code, when lava and water meet, they form obsidian or stone, but those nodes are just the same old default terrain nodes. with gloopblocks', pumice et. al have distinct node names when generated versus when dug and placed. 17:14 Xiong In any case I'm alone in my world. How can I return matters to... an approximation of normal? 17:14 VanessaE so if someone pours water/lava all over the place, worldedit can remove them and their pumice, basalt, or obsidian without disturbing the terrain or structures built with those materials. 17:15 Xiong K torches are good. I see no merit in the other ores or gems. Pumice and basalt have limited uses but are nice. 17:15 VanessaE to get back to "normal" I would need to add configuration options to gloopblocks to alter its normal behavior. 17:16 Xiong I was thinking more of hacking away. 17:16 VanessaE comment-out the lava cooling section them 17:16 VanessaE then* 17:16 Xiong Config is nice but sometimes overdone. 17:16 VanessaE or if you just want smooth flow, change the interval and chance values in the ABM 17:17 VanessaE (to 1/1) 17:17 Xiong It's strictly one section in gloopblocks? 17:17 VanessaE yeah, should be 17:18 VanessaE I have that random/messy flow set because imho it looks more natural than smooth flow. 17:18 Xiong I suppose that'll kill pumice too. 17:19 VanessaE if you comment-out the cooling code, yeah. won't remove the node, it'll just stop generating. 17:19 VanessaE but before you do that, just change the chance and interval to 1/1. see if that suits your needs 17:19 Xiong Random is fine. But balked water won't cross it's edge, no matter how long I wait. 17:21 Xiong The diagonal issue interferes with mining ops. How to cut down in lava? Instead of a solid obsidian shaft around the water, I end up with a chopped mess. 17:22 Xiong The + shapes on the surface of a lake don't tile well and are inefficient of time. 17:22 VanessaE that can be fixed also. 17:23 VanessaE bah humbug :P 17:24 Xiong Well. I fancy myself creative and adaptable when it comes to ops of all sorts. I just don't see a clean approach. It could be argued I've had it too easy all these years but it didn't seem that way. 17:24 VanessaE I know how to fix it, no big dela 17:24 VanessaE deal* 17:24 VanessaE just never bothered. 17:25 VanessaE (no one ever asked) 17:25 Xiong Well, up to you. For my purposes, one fix is to unload both gloops. This is an extreme approach. 17:26 VanessaE *shrug* your choice of course. 17:26 Xiong I do like the k torches. But the gem rubbish is just a distraction... without apparent benefit. 17:27 Xiong I fear gloop adds a few really nice touches... that should have been put in different mods. 17:28 VanessaE gloopblocks is my random nodes mod 17:28 VanessaE stuff gets put there for a reason - making a mod just for one or two nodes that don't DO anything is kinda wasteful imho. 17:30 * VanessaE wanders off to take a nap. 17:31 Xiong Yes you and I have different viewpoints. When I play I do decorate sometimes but mostly everything is functional. I'd never write code for purely decorative purposes. I realize that's a stark view. 17:32 * Xiong follows VanessaE's example 18:02 MinetestBot 02[git] 04stujones11 -> 03minetest/minetest: Android: Fix start-up crashes on version 4.x (#8003) 13b8b33a6 https://git.io/fhJ8e (152018-12-22T18:02:00Z)
