<Blockhead256> can a forum mod who speaks German properly do something about ServerAdmin 21 https://forum.luanti.org/search.php?author_id=51581&sr=posts |
02:56 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> They've posted in German a few times outside the German forums, and other users complain of spam, but machine translation isn't enough for me to feel confident in making a judgement |
02:58 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> there is also the ContentDB code in their signature but I don't know how to find if that's linked to an account over there.. (in case a ban would affect their packages or something) |
02:58 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> I'm not saying punish them on ContentDB, just wondering if there's collateral |

has anyone noticed that the 3D top/bottom and side-by-side modes weren't implemented correctly? they don't account for the squishing at all. they just render 2 images at the resolution of half the screen, when they need to be doing 2 squished down full screen frames. |

thanosengine: I noticed that luanti 5.11 has bastardised some blocks made by the CNC machine. https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/1237006514825199638/1346481112800559115/2025-03-04-1354_001.jpg?ex=67cc4c41&is=67cafac1&hm=3451018c449248c93daf0a52cb1c83d5850cd93cef80e30a9d2ef14203fc0ce3&=&format=webp&width=1508&height=848 |

See the gradiant on each of those cylinder nodes? |
15:07 |
Helenah |
I'm pretty sure the behaviour in 5.10 and below was more correct, that you wouldn't have that gradiant, each joining cylinder node would look smooth and like the pillar is a single node... |
15:08 |
Helenah |
I'm not sure whether or not to report it as a bug though, what if I reported it as a bug and get told that this is caused by some correct behaviour from improvements to lighting? |

Maybe it's not present in my sandbox, just that I noticed it is on a friends server I play on. |
16:15 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> that means your friend needs to update technic |
16:15 |
Helenah |
Anyway, they prefer to take snippets from upstream and patch them on so I'll let them know that this feature needs to be forked and patched in. |
16:15 |
Helenah |
Yeah, they don't update mods from what I'm aware, they actively keep track of their changes and patch in from upstream any wanted ones. |
16:16 |
Helenah |
Or any needed ones. |
16:16 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> if you're talking about LinuxForks, then I sent that in as well https://github.com/h-v-smacker/technic/pull/26 |
16:16 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> but please do tell smacker in-game if you see him |
16:17 |

Blackhead, I was struggling to find the code for the circular saw and CNC machine, the bit that allows me to add support for nodes from other mods so I can cut them into slopes, spheres, etc. |
16:17 |
Helenah |
Er.... *blockhead |
16:17 |
Helenah |
Also... no this is a different server, you probably know Cato. |
16:17 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> thanosengine: there are a lot of problems with the 3D modes. They don't seem to work for me.. I had better file a bug report I guess |
16:18 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> yeah I know Cato. He should update technic promptly then once he's aware |
16:18 |
Helenah |
The anaglyph mode may be a problem depending on how they define the red and blue to add depth. |
16:19 |
thanosengine |
Blockhead256: yeah, I ahven't tried anaglyph but both top/bottom and side-by-side are stretched on my 3dtv and interlaced just doesn't work at all. interlaced mode does already have an issue. |
16:19 |
Helenah |
Well now I know it was a technic bug, I'll know to let Cato know. |
16:19 |
Helenah |
Prior though, I was investigating. :D |
16:20 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> 5.11 showed a lot of pre-existing flaws in models, there's a lot wrong with Advtrains too.. slowly working on it |
16:20 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> I'm sure I'm not alone, but at the same time nobody else seems to be discussing it |
16:21 |
Helenah |
I found same situation... regarding people not discussing what I noticed. |
16:21 |
Helenah |
For example, I haven't seen mentions regarding the mushroom pores bug... |
16:21 |
Helenah |
And it doesn't seem to be getting patched either. |
16:22 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> I think it's just that Luanti is small enough that you can't rely on someone else noticing and fixing it, you have to DIY |
16:22 |
Helenah |
The expected behaviour is you shouldn't be able to jump on them, they should be holding you down as if they're sucking you down, actual behaviour these days though is you can jump on them. |
16:22 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> in Minecraft they have a whole army of youtubers and other tinkerers tearing apart every weekly snapshot |
16:23 |

I don't know, I kinda am not complaining for people to fix it... it's interesting though that notice seems to have noticed. |

<Blockhead256> wsor4035: Just yesterday I was dealing with git-send-email not supporting outlook anymore, not basic auth.. so yeah, I can't blame you |
16:24 |
Helenah |
I should probably report that mushroom pores bug, just I've been busy. |
16:25 |
Helenah |
Maybe even fix it myself, though I'm working on a mod myself. |
16:25 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> yep it just takes such-and-such an amount of time to do bug reports, and it's not the fun part at all |
16:25 |
Helenah |
Yeah |
16:26 |
Helenah |
Cato will probably fix it if they have it on their "things to be done" list, no idea if it's on there, it could be, I did make them aware of the bug but who knows. :D |
16:26 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> but if it's the pores from Ethereal NG, a report to Tenplus1 is usually enough to get him to fix it himself without needing to send a PR |
16:27 |
Helenah |
hmm |
16:31 |
Helenah |
I wonder if a command can be listened out for by multiple mods, for example, /area_pos1 and /area_pos2 would be useful for a situation in my own mod. |
16:32 |
Helenah |
With areas mod, one would do /protect thereafter, but what if they could do something else instead that's of another mod? |
16:32 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> worldedit and areas have separate selections |
16:32 |
Helenah |
hmm |
16:32 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> it's possible to monkey-patch chatcommands I think, then you'd call the original |
16:33 |
Helenah |
Maybe I should make my own selection algorithm. |
16:33 |
Helenah |
Ah |
16:33 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> I think the worldedit area is made available to other mods, not sure about areas |
16:33 |
Helenah |
Is doing that correct though? |
16:34 |
Helenah |
I like correctness, I don't like the idea of revisiting something later because I got to re-factor it due to a load of wrong's. |
16:34 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> If celeron55 hadn't intended us to use override_chatcommand, he wouldn't have given it to us :) |
16:35 |
Helenah |
Of course this is a reduction measure, not an illimination measure, be in receipt of facts before implementing things. :D |
16:35 |
Helenah |
Ah |
16:35 |
Helenah |
Fair enough! |
16:35 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> If I were you, I'd probably not depend on other mods for your area selection but anyway |
16:35 |
Helenah |
Oh... it's an override, okay, not happy with that then. |
16:35 |
Helenah |
Agreed |
16:36 |

Plus, I forgot, but I frameworked for my mod to be independant anyway, it's about server administration in accordance to my own preference and way of doing. |

Blockhead, What I'm confused about is I seem to be able to use player:setpos() anywhere, but when I did it in the register_on_respawnplayer() function, it seems when I am respawned, tried killing myself with lava, tried /killme, I don't seem to be getting re-spawned at the set coordinates, of course this works elsewhere. https://termbin.com/rzv1 |
16:45 |
Helenah |
The function does get entered, I see the stuff sent to chat for example. |
16:47 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> didn't sfan5 answer your question yesterday? |
16:50 |
sfan5 |
no that was different |
16:50 |
sfan5 |
are you sure your mod is the only one hooking the respawn mechanism? |
16:50 |
Helenah |
The answer wasn't satisfactory, that's not implying they're crap at giving support, or I don't appreciate it or anything, just, it wasn't an answer to my question, I don't think, I'm aware the message to in-game chat works. Maybe I misunderstood or I'm doing everything all wrong, I've been tired lately... |

Blockhead, that doesn't need an apology with me, but I do understand why you did apologise. No problem, honestly. :D |
17:02 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> actually it's an apology for the other person I mentioned who then came and responded (because IRC mentions usually ping people unlike ordinary messages) |

I forget about "ping annoyance", I don't mean to, I swear! On IRC, and I have used it since 2005, it's normal, and it's standard to ping people when you want them, rarely anyone ever gets upset by it, I took it for granted, not realising it would be bothersome, then I started using Discord, and a community then abruptly got very angry and pissed off with me, no consultation prior, just resorted to |
17:06 |
Helenah |
a full blown shouting match about how rude I am. I had to tell them, I'm used to IRC etiquette and that I deeply apologise, to which point, the argument was it should've been obvious that pinging people would annoy them, actually, it was not. :D But yeah, I forget... |

I think the fact you can't use a command on an offline player is confusing. |
18:23 |

Why is this? It can be necessary to do such a thing, for example if a player broke rules while you weren't online, and you need to go ban them or whatever. |
