01:55 misspapaya Where can I start debugging?
01:56 xBarkDog joined #minetest
01:57 misspapaya sorry not debugging. Troubleshooting.
01:57 Emerald2 Did you update anything before they disappeared? And which mod is adding them?
01:57 misspapaya I added advtrains and restarted the server
01:58 misspapaya oh and I disabled wolves
01:59 Emerald2 Which mod are the sharks and wolves from?
02:00 misspapaya Wolves were their own mod and I'm not sure where sharks came from

02:01 Emerald2 Which mobs mods are on your server?
02:04 misspapaya mobs, mobs_monster, water_life, mobkit, mobs_animal
02:05 Emerald2 water_life has sharks
02:06 Emerald2 Anything in debug.txt ?
02:08 misspapaya I don't see anything
02:08 misspapaya oh ERROR[Main]: mod "water_life" has unsatisfied dependencies:  "mobkit"
02:08 misspapaya gotta see what instance that came from
02:08 Emerald2 Aha!

02:12 misspapaya I erased teh file and restarted the server. so far I haven't seen the error again. Will come back after I go looking for sharks
02:15 Emerald2 You have so many  mods on there.
02:16 Emerald2 Though a lot of them are parts of homedecor and mesecons...
02:32 misspapaya I just clicked mods that looked fun without thinking much
02:35 Emerald2 The server has sharks now.
02:52 misspapaya that was weird
02:53 Emerald2 lol
02:53 Emerald2 Hazard with carts. Getting stuck inside other people also in carts.

11:17 Miniontoby in the folder of mt
11:17 Miniontoby where also the bin, worlds, games, mods and the other folders are
11:17 Flam0re In my case there is only worlds and debug.txt
11:18 Miniontoby worlds and debug
11:18 Miniontoby wait
11:18 Miniontoby give the run cmd
11:18 Flam0re like the way i use to run minetest server right?
11:18 Miniontoby yes
11:18 Flam0re 'minetestserver'
11:18 Miniontoby ok
11:19 Miniontoby make in the folder where the worlds and the debug.txt is an minetest.conf
11:19 Miniontoby if it doesn´t get used the first time
11:19 Miniontoby do ¨minetestserver --config /dir/to/minetest.conf¨
11:20 Flam0re should the text of minetest.conf i created change?
11:21 Miniontoby wait

11:21 Miniontoby here
11:21 Miniontoby add your minetest.conf
11:21 Miniontoby and give link
11:22 Flam0re I already said i got no minetest.conf, i created one with just a comment to see
11:22 Miniontoby ok
11:22 Miniontoby wait
11:22 sfan5 minetest can decide to write to your minetest.conf if the settings have changed during runtime
11:22 Miniontoby let me make one
11:22 Miniontoby plz answer the questions
11:23 Miniontoby 1: What is the name of the server
11:23 Flam0re I mean you can give me filled with just random things so i can change it
11:23 Miniontoby I will create one
11:23 Miniontoby ok
11:23 Miniontoby but I need the info
11:24 Flam0re 1. "Just a random server"
11:24 Miniontoby ok
11:26 Miniontoby 2: serveraddress
11:26 Flam0re comment it out
11:26 Miniontoby ok
11:26 Miniontoby 3: server_description
11:26 sfan5 if you want to see where the config would ordinarily be, run the server with --verbose
11:27 sfan5 it will print a path with "Detected user path:", minetest.conf is searched for in that folder
11:27 Miniontoby I need the info
11:28 Miniontoby give your ingame name
11:29 Miniontoby 4: give your ingame name
11:29 Miniontoby I need it
11:30 Flam0re Uh the printing goes too fast and debug.txt didn't save anything from --verbose
11:30 Miniontoby 4: give your ingame name
11:30 ANAND Flam0re: Maybe redirect the output to a file?
11:31 ANAND minetest --verbose > verbose_output.txt
11:31 Miniontoby minetestserver --verbose > log.txt
11:31 Miniontoby maybe
11:31 Miniontoby Flam0re is your nickname Flam0re
11:31 Flam0re no

11:36 Flam0re I feel like the FreeBSD binary of minetest/minetestserver might be broken or something
11:39 sfan5 Flam0re: try minetestserver --verbose --worldlist ""
11:39 sfan5 should print 10 lines at most
11:41 Flam0re The config doesn't seem to be in system-wide path
11:41 Flam0re nor in user-path
11:43 Miniontoby http://paste.debian.net/1147427/
11:43 Flam0re Can you not kthx
11:43 sfan5 that's where it searches for the file, doesn't need to mean there is one already
11:44 Flam0re I might just install minetestserver on other machine and copy the default config
11:45 sfan5 the default configuration is an empty file
11:45 ANAND ^
11:45 sfan5 unless you're looking for the documentation which is named minetest.conf.example and probably somewhere in /usr/share
11:46 ANAND If you already have a config with some server-specific settings and MT doesn't detect it, you can use the --config command-line switch to explicitly read from the specified config

12:03 Daisae Is there a command to see what version of the game (not engine) is running?  I need to know for tests.
12:04 Emerald2 On linux or?
12:05 Daisae yes.  I am hoping that there is a better way than using strace
12:05 Emerald2 minetest --version
12:06 Daisae and the version which is loaded is going to be the one under STATIC_SHAREDIR ?
12:07 Daisae and not possible from elsewhere, such as under /usr/local/share ?
12:08 Emerald2 Don't know. It'd be whichever version you have installed. Maybe I'm not understanding exactly what you're wanting here.
12:20 Daisae I have multiple versions of the engine and game installed.
12:20 Daisae I can see which version of the engine is running from the Credits tab when the engine starts or from the first line of minetest --version.
12:20 Daisae How do I see which version of the game is running?  One version is under /usr/share and another under /usr/local/share .
12:23 Emerald2 I just assumed it had the same version as the engine. *shrug*
12:23 Emerald2 perhaps one of the devs will come along with better info than that soon
12:31 sfan5 if you run minetest --verbose it will also print the share path, the game it uses will be $path_share/games/minetest_game
12:31 Emerald2 sfan to the rescue again ;)
12:32 Daisae Thanks.  I take it that is the value of STATIC_SHAREDIR

15:56 macc24 joined #minetest
15:57 sfan5 I don't use freebsd so I can't tell you
15:57 sfan5 why not give it a try?
15:58 pi_____ I tried firewall_enable="no" and firewall_type="open"
15:58 pi_____ nothing worked,
15:58 pi_____ Can it be because i have 2 routers bridging? do i have to port forward on both then?
16:03 sfan5 typically not
16:04 sfan5 the router that is in bridge mode will just pass packets through, the one that isn't then has the actual firewall where you need to do forwarding
16:05 pi_____ Really strange that is.
16:06 pi_____ The firewall in the server really is disabled
16:10 pi_____ Here is the port forwarding data i used in my router https://hatebin.com/cjzvrcrmgn

19:39 lmat Do carts sort of suck?
19:39 sfan5 perhaps
19:40 lmat I'm installing some tracks down to my mine...it's a little rough. Are there tricks that I'm not getting?
19:45 baggy joined #minetest
19:45 baggy hi
19:45 baggy left #minetest
19:46 Krock lmat: at fast speeds consider increasing this value: https://github.com/minetest/minetest_game/blob/master/mods/carts/init.lua#L16
19:47 Krock it becomes important when the server step is larger than one travelled node
19:47 Krock in singleplayer that won't be a problem. if you're getting stutters there, it might be due to mapblock loading or client-server sync weirdness
19:48 sfan5 couldn't it determine that automatically?
19:48 sfan5 also: unrelated but I've heard that shift-clicking carts is confusing to some players, punching to pick up might be more intuitive (then movement could be replaced with WASD)
19:48 Krock it already does that. 3 is the hard limit
19:49 sfan5 Krock: from the dedicated_server_step value I mean
19:50 Krock it uses velocity * dtime to calculate the travelled distance, and optimally that's <1m
19:50 Krock dtime is kinda the server step so yes..
19:50 lmat Ah, that's how I pick up the cart.
19:51 lmat Sometimes it gets going the wrong way and my track is very long, so I would like to stop it. Now I can just pick it up ^_^
19:51 lmat oh crap, there it goes
19:56 lmat Yes, punching the cart is total crap. Most of the time I can't even punch it because it's wiggling around so much. WASD would be *much* better.
19:56 Krock D = handbrake on
19:56 Krock A/S = rail switching
19:59 lmat Krock: Is that current or proposed?
20:01 sfan5 current apparently
20:01 sfan5 no idea what a/s does though

20:52 lmat whoa, this is busted.
20:52 lmat I'm in a cart and someone else is in a cart. Our carts are on top of each other at the end of aline.
20:52 lmat Neither of us can do anything. When we click (to try to punch the cart), we just hit the other guy. When we right-click (to try to exit the cart), we right click the other guy so we don't exit the cart.
20:52 lmat When I type '/home' to try to go home, I don't go home (presumeably because I'm in a cart).
20:54 lmat I exited the game, so now we're cool.
