Time Nick Message 09:01 Quiark If anyone is using Nix, I updated the package for minetest and added macOS support https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/77967 09:19 Dr-Frankenstone Are there any mobs that orient the head to look at a player? - Not just the body. I heard it was possible in theory. 15:48 galaxie Dr-Frankenstone: I was looking for that functionality, too. No such luck so far. 15:49 galaxie Is there any such thing as insulated vertical mesecon? 15:59 galaxie Or an equivalent? 20:53 jonadab Is it just me, or do crops only grow if you stand there and watch them? 21:14 Krock Node timers don't re-trigger multiple times, so yes. they'll only grow if someone's watching 21:15 Krock so you're kinda watching the grass to grow 21:16 Krock unlike the furnace, which also works without watching 21:16 Krock ^ jonadab 21:51 jonadab I see. 21:56 calcul0n it might depend on how they are implemented 21:57 calcul0n some will catch up to recalculate the growth when you come back 22:13 jonadab I was growing wheat and cotton. I keep noticing that it doesn't seem to matter how long I stay away for. I mean, at one point I built a rail line from more than 1400 tiles below the surface up to a nearby landmass and used it to ferry a bunch of cobblestone up from the depths, which I used to build a large and elaborate castle. When I went back to check on my crops, they weren't ripe yet; but then 22:13 jonadab they started to ripen. 22:14 jonadab Exactly the opposite of the old saw about a watched pot never boiling. 22:14 jonadab Oh, speaking of crops: does papyrus ever actually get generated, anywhere? 22:22 calcul0n yes, but it's a bit rare 22:22 calcul0n i mean with default mapgen and settings 22:24 Lone_Wolf Try jungles and savannas 22:39 jonadab I've explored, hmm, maybe 50 landmasses. Granted, most of those were other biomes. But at least half a dozen of them were savanna, and several had jungle. So far no papyrus. 22:39 jonadab But if it's just really rare, I'll keep looking. 22:41 Lone_Wolf Commonly found next to water 22:41 jonadab When I first started exploring, I made the mistake of assuming that biome distribution would mirror the real world, so e.g. I assumed that icepack-type biomes would mainly occur near the north and south poles. 22:41 jonadab I eventually realized it's not like that. 22:41 Lone_Wolf heh 22:42 jonadab But yeah, I generated somewhere north of 0 in a biome with ice caves and pine trees, so I assumed I had to go _south_ a long ways to find jungle and get cotton and make a bed. 22:42 jonadab Turned out there was jungle much closer, that I found later.
