Time Nick Message 04:11 Sveta is there a little video which explains the benefits of using minetest and gives a brief tour of the installation and gameplay process 04:11 Sveta I would like to give someone minetest for a birthday, so the current plan is to collect a few movies from the public domain and make the minetest movie one of them 04:11 Sveta and put it on a usb 04:12 Sveta not sure if there is a way to make it more appealing 04:30 GreenDimond Benrob0329 has some cinematics of Minetest, I dont know of anything explaining the benefits though. 04:30 GreenDimond It really isnt that appealing on the hood :s 04:32 Sveta the problem here is that I don't even know if the guy has a laptop/desktop or only an android 04:32 Sveta so I can put a few mods into one zip file or something but they may face difficulties even plugging the usb in somewhere 07:58 Quiark Sveta, I think the easiest way to start playing is to connect to someone's server (Vanessa's or something), they already have a bunch of content etc 07:58 Quiark should work with android too (just find the correct app in store) 09:40 Sveta Quiark: we have our own server with lots of content now, could give the other child an url to it i guess 10:12 p_gimeno Sveta: maybe a USB stick compiled to run in place? that way, it can be run from the USB itself 10:13 Sveta that'd be nice, is there a way to make that platform agnostic? like it autoruns on mac or win or linux or anything 10:14 p_gimeno I don't know. I guess each platform has its own autorun mechanism. 10:14 Sveta i'd like to give them a few good mods, but really it'd be nice if they managed the install from minetest.net 10:14 Sveta it's just that they won't be bothered installing the mods themselves if the parents are not technically competent 10:14 Sveta plus the mom giving the gift is absolutely anxious, so i'm trying to do something simple but at the same time elegant and working 10:15 Emerald2 So when is this persons birthday? 5.0 will have a way to install mods and games from in game and it's really easy. 10:15 Emerald2 (I've used it in the testing version that's out at the moment) 10:15 Emerald2 *I mean from in the minetest client. 10:17 Sveta this weekend 10:18 Sveta if that's anywhere near working i don't mind handing them an alpha version 10:25 Emerald2 It works, just they're ironing out the remaining bugs before the release. 10:26 Emerald2 And also mods have to be updated to work with 5.0 so they're not all available in that version yet. 10:26 Emerald2 More info than that, you'll want to ask somebody else. :) 10:37 Sveta ok thanks 10:41 twoelk Sveta: I usually run my minetest stuff from a portable device that I carry around and plug into machines I happen to have access to. I use Asuite to organice the many different versions of minetest that run happily next to each other and have the odd minetest related tool included. Sadly this setup only works for Windows 10:44 Vapalus Request a mobile version for linux, hue hue 10:45 Vapalus or do it like I did, install it on a tinkerboard, go nuts because OpenGL doesn't work fast enough, use Software Rendering, see how ugly that looks, and never do that again 10:45 Vapalus For some reason OpenGL ES has issues. When I tried to compile it, well... 10:52 Vapalus Fun fact, the software renderer is much faster than an OpenGL converted to OpenGL ES. 10:53 Vapalus But the results look like an accident. 14:00 erstazi hey Wuzzy 14:00 Wuzzy hi 14:01 erstazi Love your mods! 14:02 rdococ hi 14:03 erstazi hi rdococ 15:14 Niwla I made a telegram group for MT: 15:14 Niwla t.me/minetestgroup 15:15 Niwla https://www.t.me/minetestgroup 15:18 rubenwardy *crickets* 15:23 lumberJ love the sound of crickets 15:55 Niwla I made a telegram Minetest group: 15:55 Niwla https://telegra.ph/Rules-of-the-Minetest-group-02-19 15:55 Niwla ________________________ 15:56 sfan5 you don't need to mention it every 30 minutes 15:56 Niwla Telegram is a free and Open Source Messenger with absoulutely no ads 15:56 lumberJ except yours :P 15:57 Niwla There are actually 6 people 15:59 Niwla And heres a MT stickerpack I made: 15:59 Niwla https://t.me/addstickers/minetestpack 16:02 Niwla Is there a ban function on IRC? 16:05 lumberJ why do you ask, Niwla? 16:05 lumberJ are you planning to test it? 17:31 Fixer tlegram is not open source, server part is closed source 17:55 benrob0329 Telegram is also not encrypted and requires a phone number from what I remember 17:58 fwhcat there is encryption by design. But the server has the private keys... 17:58 fwhcat which is like saying it's unencrypted :3 18:01 benrob0329 I should have said that it's not end-to-end encrypted (except for a special one-on-one type of chat that isn't real obvious), because you can say that most things are client-to-server encrypted nowadays 18:05 fwhcat sure. 18:45 Fixer and it requires telephone number which is huge no go 19:47 gry twoelk: nice, thanks 19:50 * twoelk was wondering ... who gry might be ... ah, namechangeling 20:02 Niwla but you can hide the number with a username and use it on all devices 21:28 PNd_ oh wait sry gtg
