Time Nick Message 00:07 MinetestBot 02[git] 04random-geek -> 03minetest/minetest: Extend pitch fly mode to swimming (#7943) 13aa5ec2e https://git.io/fhLSZ (152018-12-31T00:07:30Z) 00:34 MinetestBot 02[git] 04HybridDog -> 03minetest/minetest: Add minetest.load_area (#8023) 13c6f784f https://git.io/fhL9E (152018-12-31T00:32:54Z) 02:06 DoyleChris i am running a dedicated private server on my laptop and also playing off the same laptop. 02:06 DoyleChris but when i log in i keep getting creative abilities and i dont want them 02:07 DoyleChris and server abilities 02:08 ANAND You'll have to revoke the `creative` and `server` privs from yourself 02:09 DoyleChris it dosent remove them when i join it 02:10 DoyleChris and do revoke 02:10 sofar start the server separately, not from the UI 02:11 sofar set 'name` in 'minetest.conf` to the admin player name 02:12 DoyleChris I do run it separate 02:13 ANAND Set "name = " in the server's minetest.conf, and connect to the server with a different name 02:15 DoyleChris It was one name but it changed 02:15 ANAND Are you using the same minetest.conf for both the server and client? 10:09 Xiong Read The Fine Manual is good, inoffensive advice... although all advice is a tad condescending. 10:11 Xiong SFalcon studyup nohup. 11:49 crazyR Does anyone know if it is possible to include the inventory for a node from a formspec called with minetest.show_formspec()? 12:18 Xiong crazyR o/ 12:23 crazyR Hi Xiong :) 12:23 Xiong Dunno if you think you can fit in more mods... but I'd vote for "anvil" and signs_lib. The anvil is clever, with costs and limitations, so the technic tool workshop remains vital. You must know signs_lib; surprised you don't run it already. 12:26 Xiong You've already got basic materials, its only dep besides default. 12:27 rubenwardy https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/master/doc/lua_api.txt#L2205 12:27 rubenwardy crazyR ^ 12:31 crazyR Thanks rubenwardy, i spent 30 mins looking throught the lua_api file and must of went past that line several times. :/ 12:33 rubenwardy note that interaction will be limited by distance 12:33 crazyR Xiong i will consider the anvil mod but i want to try and get the current mods cleaned up and setup correctly first... as for signs_lib... my only concern is that as far as im aware there are alot of textures included with it. and my server already has alot of mods lol 12:33 rubenwardy which is usually desirable 12:34 crazyR rubenwardy. thats perfect.... the player will be stood next to the node but due to the nodes builtin formspec handler not showing the player name who is visiting it. i have to use minetest.show_formspec() inside the on_rightclick hook 12:34 crazyR ^ sorry if that made no sense at all :D 12:34 rubenwardy I use this feature because different players would need to see different formspecs 12:35 rubenwardy in capitalism game, the shop owner would see an admin formspec but the customer would see a customer one 12:35 rubenwardy so yeah, is useful 12:36 crazyR ^ haha funny enough ive been looking to do this for similar reasons. in my economy mod i want to make it so that only the shop owner can see the formspec.... 12:37 Xiong That would be an improvement. I looked for ways to browse a shop without throwing a warning. 12:37 crazyR i do think nodes need a new hook method "def.set_formspec(pos, player) end" 12:37 crazyR but chances of someone implementing that are slim i think as its not mahorly important 12:38 crazyR *majorly 12:41 Xiong I agree signs_lib comes at a cost but the payoff is big. Default signs bad in large numbers... like > 2. Reading every book on the shelf to find out which one you want to read. Let you think on it. 12:41 rubenwardy how does display modpack compare? 12:42 Xiong rubenwardy Asking me? Looking now, know nothing. 12:43 rubenwardy apart from display modpack being non-free 12:43 rubenwardy but that's due to a non-free font being used 12:44 Xiong The screenshot gives me wood. But the other end says At what cost? 12:44 rubenwardy !mod display_modpack 12:44 MinetestBot rubenwardy: Display Modpack [display_modpack] by Pyrollo - https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?t=19365 12:45 Xiong If you care enough I imagine you can swap in PD fonts. 12:48 Xiong Author claims "The Home Decor / Signs_lib solution is heavy in terms of textures (doubles the number of used textures)." I have a hard time believing he gets all those clowns to come out of a VW Bug. 12:52 Xiong Okay now I'm sleepy. So 12:52 crazyR hmmm signs_lin is not half as big as it used to be..... maybe i should add it afterall 12:53 crazyR *signs_lib 12:53 crazyR Cya Xiong 17:00 Table_Fliper Hi dear minetesters 17:00 jas_ hello 17:01 Giorge Thats better 17:03 Giorge Better enjoy the last day of 2018 guys. 17:09 Giorge -_- 17:10 jas_ well, it's just a number on a calandar 17:10 jas_ but thank you, happy new years to you and yours as well ! 17:10 Giorge Dont be so emotionless. Time doesnt return 17:10 Giorge Yet at least 17:11 jas_ 3, 2, 1... HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 17:11 jas_ *\;D/* 17:11 Giorge I have to wait 4:50 hours yet 17:11 Giorge But YAY 17:11 Giorge Happy new year 17:11 jas_ it's a good time for reflection and not a bad idea to make a resolution or three 17:12 Giorge If you say so 17:13 Giorge Bb m8 17:15 Giorge Welcome in 17:21 Giorge Wb 17:27 Giorge Wb me 17:33 Xiong Time doesn't return? That depends entirely on your viewpoint. Linear time is a distinctly Western and modern concept. Most people have thought of time as cyclical... days, moons, years, kings, wars, birth, death. 17:34 Xiong It's natural for people to experience a moment and after much time come to a similar moment and say it's returned. 17:35 Xiong That's considered a *good thing*. 17:35 Giorge Was the msg sent? 17:36 Giorge (Giorge) My viewpoint is that time is unexistent, made by us to arrange things easier 17:37 Xiong Well what? 17:37 Giorge Yeah i dont really believe in time. 17:37 Xiong Nonexistent? It's demonstrable. 17:38 Xiong One can debate much; whether time truly passes or is a fixed landscape through which we view pieces 17:38 Giorge But since we are unsure about all of those 17:39 Giorge People have many many different theories 17:39 Xiong One can argue whether the future is fixed or mutable. But it is quite certain we live in four large dimensions. 17:39 Giorge Is it? 17:42 jas_ don't forget about those tribes without any concept of 'time' 17:42 jas_ some think it doesn't even really exist, that it's an illusion. don't ask me tho! hahaha 17:42 Xiong Well try denying space. I say I don't believe in it. The universe is a dimensionless point. 17:43 Giorge Tribes? Cmon any better word choice? 17:43 jas_ 'groups of people that have not been contacted by "western civilisation"' ?? i dunno if i spelled that right 17:43 Giorge You are right but 17:43 jas_ but if you know what i mean, you can forgive my language maybe. anyway, it's a funny subject. i can say time and space are an illusion, you certainly don't have to believe me 17:43 Giorge It came out so offencivelu 17:43 jas_ oh i see 17:44 jas_ tribes, huh. well i didn't know, i apologize. 17:45 Giorge Thats why the world is beautiful. So many different perceptions 17:45 Xiong Um, ain't no more. We cover the world. -- Sherwin-Williams 17:45 jas_ i don't mean to insinuate that time/space don't exist for us here and now, in this the physical .. whatever u call it 17:45 jas_ but peace ;D 17:45 Giorge But "time does not return" was a piece of poem. Which apperently failed what it was to do 17:46 Giorge On what it had* 17:46 Xiong Well the moving finger writes. 17:47 Xiong On this days it sounds like the common blessing: Many happy returns! on its head. 17:49 Xiong I think most people still have deep faith in cyclic time. Look at "Cloud Atlas". 17:50 Giorge And it went too far. Oof 17:50 Giorge At least better than silence 17:52 Xiong Even I have a recurrent... image... of myself in a previous life... which I consider nonsense. 17:56 jas_ it's weird, on #minetest-hub, i think, the topic shows #minetest-chat 17:56 jas_ but here, the topic doesn't show it. huh, odd. 17:57 Xiong In this sticky thought I am a medieval knife sharpener. Every day I sit and crank my grindstone. Kitchen knives, woodsmans' axes, cheap weapons. The fine swords are done at the manor by another, more respected man. Relatively more! As mere peddlers we rank just above merchants and thieves. 17:57 jas_ cool 17:57 jas_ good times 17:58 Giorge Well in medieval times, weapon sellers were rich, even if they only had knives 17:58 Xiong Sellers yes. Sharpeners no. 17:59 Giorge Oh a sharpener 17:59 Giorge Didnt read that one 18:01 Xiong Also wealth bought little without rank. Nobles often were in debt... but retained power. The common habit of kicking out the Jews was linked to their holding so much paper... being forbidden to work land they often turned to banking, then considered illegitimate business. 18:02 Xiong So... 18:04 Xiong And although as all of my class I drink heavily and sleep heavily and badly, I dream by day, staring at the endlessly turning wheel and the edge of another blade. And my daily thought is ill formed but involves riding the grindstone, like an ass but continuing to crank it with my feet... as I do all day every day anyway 18:06 Xiong And in my mind (this stubborn daydream within a stubborn daydream) I roll right out of town, over the hill and down the next valley... out of sight to see the world. 18:07 jas_ everyone's unique 18:07 Giorge Welcome in 18:07 jas_ https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=OWahO6rIW6s&feature=share 18:08 Giorge Is this a 2,0song? 18:08 jas_ yes 18:08 Xiong Then I come back to my senses. The blade is sharp enough, the shrew beat her mouse again, a noble rode by. I have already forgotten I almost invented the bicycle... again. 18:09 jas_ yeah. that's an interesting vision, did you say? 18:09 jas_ you should write a script, or story thing what's it called? a movie 18:10 Xiong What Giorge? That's all of it. Takes longer to explain. I just have this flash... every year or two. As if it were true memory. I don't think it's real. 18:10 jas_ ever seen schynednsdflkjsf ny? i cant spell it let me look it up. it's my fav movie ever. then i go to #minetest-chat 18:11 Xiong Okay I go to sleep again. Sorry potato. 18:11 jas_ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvr2wDrLRfs 18:11 jas_ !title 18:11 MinetestBot jas_: Synecdoche, New York - Trailer - YouTube 18:11 _Gi (_Gi) Before anyone from here steals it 18:35 Giorge Hello 20:53 BurningPrincess I am getting "password change denied. Password NOT changed.". I think it is due to me changingg my pass latly 21:00 BurningPrincess And what kinda stuff is there to stop people from getting passwords from the auth.txt ? 21:00 sofar Srp 21:01 BurningPrincess Oh this is intersting 21:22 BurningPrincess Are passwords an auth.txt hashed or salted and hashed ? 21:25 BurningPrincess If they are in auth.txt at all that is 21:31 BurningPrincess Oh, I think I found my answer. Sorrt and thanks for the help 22:19 paramat oiaohm mt 5.0.0 has this https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/c6f784f43bca3328c6810c26c8bda2ea507c70e8/doc/lua_api.txt#L4081 which a mod can use to find a deterministic spawn point for a world. for example see the intended API https://github.com/minetest/minetest_game/pull/2257 23:53 oiaohm paramat: I am looking more for adding a new mapgen for loading a static world segment. So I am needing that from the C++ side. One of the issues I have hit with LUA mapgen by mod is being late that it possible to spawn and fall into nothing before lua code has run and generated map. 23:54 oiaohm paramat: so there does need to be a mapgen_lua as well so that mod loaded for mapgen will for sure be processed before players can enter. 23:57 paramat ok will think on this 23:59 riff-IRC hey 23:59 riff-IRC any idea if there's MT mods that support rangebanning? 23:59 oiaohm paramat: I started looking at this after playing skyblock mod for a bit and finding that could have a few different issues. 1) managing to get into game before skyblock is in fact render so had extra death at start from time to time that should not happen.
