00:44 anon46853 anyone here?
00:44 paramat nope
00:44 anon46853 lol
00:44 anon46853 I just installed minetest
00:44 anon46853 and when I opened it it's in Japanese
00:45 anon46853 how do I fix this
00:45 paramat look in the userlist, all those people aren't here either ;)
00:45 paramat congrats!
00:45 paramat hmm
00:45 anon46853 I don't know Japanese btw
00:46 rom1504 anon46853: the fix is learning Japanese
00:46 rubenwardy search for local in advanced settings
00:46 rubenwardy *locale
00:46 rubenwardy hmmm
00:46 rom1504 Minetest is an educational game
00:46 rubenwardy it's a button on the second to last tab in the main menu
00:46 rom1504 Teaches you languages
00:46 anon46853 hmm
00:47 rubenwardy it's because your computer language is Japanese :)
00:47 paramat in minetest.conf add 'language = en'
00:47 anon46853 um where do I find the minetest.conf file
00:47 rubenwardy ~/.minetest/minetest.conf
00:47 rubenwardy I think
00:48 paramat it's a text file in your minetest directory
00:48 anon46853 Ik
00:49 anon46853 there is no .conf file
00:49 anon46853 should I create one if it's not there?
00:50 paramat there will be one somewhere
00:50 anon46853 I couldn't find it
00:50 anon46853 just did a system wide search
00:50 paramat no, it's created automatically, don't add one
00:51 paramat i wonder if it's only created once you play in a world ... can't remember
00:53 Hirato joined #minetest
00:53 Scotty_Trees joined #minetest
00:54 paramat can you find a text file called minetest.conf.example ? minetest.conf should be next to that
00:55 paramat (if it exists)
00:55 anon46853 I just did a system wide search for minetest.conf
00:55 anon46853 zero results
00:56 paramat yeah, do one for ..example
00:56 anon46853 okay wait
00:56 anon46853 nada
00:56 paramat minetest.conf.example
00:56 paramat weird
00:57 anon46853 yeah
01:01 anon46853 how do I change language from the game menu
01:02 anon46853 you said the option to change language is on the tab second from the last
01:02 anon46853 right?
01:02 paramat in advanced settings, problem is that may be hard to navigate in japanese :)
01:03 paramat hang on i'll try to navigate you ..
01:04 paramat 0.4.16?
01:05 anon46853 0.4.17.1
01:06 rubenwardy what OS, anon46853?
01:06 anon46853 https://imgur.com/a/v3BPuVN
01:06 anon46853 windows
01:07 rubenwardy so, you have your Minetest folder
01:07 rubenwardy say   /My Documents/minetest
01:07 rubenwardy minetest.conf should be created in the root of your MT directory
01:07 rubenwardy so
01:08 rubenwardy /My Documents/minetest/minetest.conf
01:08 rubenwardy next  to minetest.conf.example
01:08 rubenwardy sure it's not there?
01:09 anon46853 yeah neither of those  files exist
01:09 rubenwardy alternatively: click the third tab for the settings, then click the button in the bottom left
01:11 anon46853 this is what my screen looks like now
01:11 anon46853 https://imgur.com/a/qhYBS3x
01:11 anon46853 where do I go from here?
01:11 paramat yeah that's advanced settings
01:12 rubenwardy in the top, type language then click the button
01:12 paramat will guide you in a moment
01:12 paramat ah
01:12 rubenwardy or press enter
01:12 rubenwardy then click the right most button in the bottom right
01:12 Cornelia joined #minetest
01:13 rubenwardy there will then be a drop down
01:14 anon46853 thanks
01:14 anon46853 it worked
01:14 anon46853 :)
01:14 paramat phew
01:15 anon46853 so u guys come here often?
01:16 ChimneySwift I would hope so
01:16 anon46853 cos Idk what I would have done if u guys weren't there lol
01:17 anon46853 most irc channels I go on are dead
01:19 anon46853 sad irc is dying
01:19 anon46853 really miss the old days
01:22 ChimneySwift well considering they're both devs an this is the official chat channel for minetest I think you're all good :p
01:23 paramat MT IRC is fairly active
01:24 paramat and almost all the devs won't go anywhere else
01:24 paramat discord's for the kiddies ;)
01:24 paramat the quality of discussion is higher here too
01:28 rubenwardy how do you know that without spying in discord?
01:29 ANAND o_O
01:29 octacian I was just gonna ask that
01:29 ChimneySwift dun dun dah
01:29 octacian Unless you're there, you don't know :P
01:29 ANAND Could've been a general opinion too, though
01:29 ChimneySwift lol
01:30 octacian There tends to be more lower quality discussion there, but just because its more active. Even more of it tends to be of near equal quality to that of IRC.
01:30 octacian At least it's usually more active. not today though lol
01:31 ANAND For kiddies or not, 'tis where the players are. If someone is deeply involved with a server, joining that server's Discord (if one even exists) is kinda mandatory. :)
01:32 ChimneySwift it's about equivalent to joining their forum :P
01:33 paramat heh no i'm not there, but i'm probably right about the quality
01:34 paramat and yes, just because there are more people there, and generally younger and less experienced
01:34 ANAND Being partial towards IRC, I hate to say this, but Discord has been the place for a lot of deep on-topic discussions too. :P
01:35 ChimneySwift IRC tends to be much more consistent quality, but theres still a lot of good quality conversion. Modding, development, general help, and quality off topic too
01:36 ChimneySwift it's good MT has a presence on a platform with a larger young audience, it gets new people involved and curious, and somewhere we're they can ask for help from more experienced people
01:38 paramat yeah, essentially i'm wary of the signal to noise ratio, even though there is apparently some signal there
01:38 ChimneySwift additionally, it gives a more approachable way to access the core audience of the game which can help development
01:38 ChimneySwift yeah, there's more noise than here for sure, but it's not all bad :)
01:39 ChimneySwift ofc, whether or not you like discord is a whole other conversation :P
01:41 paramat yes, good points

02:16 Pilcrow182 heh, all this talk of IRC vs Discord... I actually find IRC a lot easier to use, of the two. Especially when you want quick in-browser access; Discord's site is bloated and slow, while webchat.freenode.net is quick and simple.
02:18 Pilcrow182 There's also Reddit, haha. Want the worst parts of Discord mixed with the worst parts a forum? That's Reddit.  :P

20:28 Fixer_ Wuzzy: hey, can you edit posts in github? I have JS enabled on it but suddenly they show me a warning about legacy and stuff just does not work anymore suddenly (like editing posts, etc)
20:29 Wuzzy do you now understand why i want to move away from GitHub? :)
20:30 octacian I'm just gonna say it. Refusing to use JS on something like GitHub doesn't make any sense :P
20:30 Fixer_ do those fucks intentionally break it for my ESR?
20:31 Fixer_ i'm on yet moved to Quantum, wtf...
20:31 Fixer_ on=not
20:31 Fixer_ octacian: i do use JS on it, it still refuses to work
20:31 octacian It should work on an older version, unless it's really old
20:31 Fixer_ like it detects my ESR and says to fuck off
20:32 Fixer_ 52 is not that old
20:32 octacian Wait, ESR?
20:32 Fixer_ prequantum ESR
20:32 Fixer_ it was EOL few months ago
20:32 octacian Ah I see. That might be the case
20:33 Calinou pre-Quantum browsers are no longer supported by GitHub
20:33 Calinou they may still work for now, but there's no guarantee there will in the futuret
20:33 Fixer_ some addons are still not ported
20:33 Calinou I'm reminded of https://www.sudosatirical.com/articles/new-firefox-not-nearly-clunky-insecure-enough-for-local-man/ :P
20:34 Fixer_ quantum is so much faster, but I'm waiting for that FEATURE in 64 or so where you can use TWO profiles in parallel without hacking too much
20:34 rubenwardy lol
20:34 octacian I haven't really come across anything of importance that's missing, but maybe that's just me
20:34 Fixer_ still need prequantum for some powerfull stuff
20:34 Fixer_ like flashgot
20:34 Fixer_ mass downloading
20:35 Fixer_ quantum is CRIPPLED
20:35 GreenDimond The only thing I miss from prequantum is TabMixPlus
20:35 Fixer_ can't do shit with it
20:35 Calinou I used Waterfox last year to run a legacy add-on that our university required us to use
20:35 Calinou but that's over now )
20:35 Calinou :)*
20:35 Fixer_ GreenDimond: if you are using it to display rows of tabs, you can use CSS hack for it
20:35 Fixer_ I have Tabmix as well
20:36 GreenDimond Nah I want it for other things too
20:36 Fixer_ i need flashgot, tabmix, scrapbook
20:36 octacian you sure there aren't already similar things with the new plugin system?
20:36 Fixer_ no
20:37 Fixer_ they are crippled 1 star craps
20:37 crazyR joined #minetest
20:37 Fixer_ read the comments
20:37 Fixer_ "Not a replacement. Do not dl this. No features. Useless"
20:37 Fixer_ I've tried some flashgot replacements and they are shit and don't work often
20:38 Fixer_ Or they suggest me to go back to WinHTTrack (google it)
20:38 Fixer_ ?
20:38 octacian Well, I'm sure as the demand increases more will show up. You could make your own too
20:39 Fixer_ octacian: not possible, no apis atm
20:39 octacian what do you mean there's no APIs?
20:40 Fixer_ so I guess if I want DL some files from the page, I need to fire up my WinHTTrack that is by the way has its 20 years anniversary
20:40 octacian https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions
20:40 Fixer_ octacian: no apis
20:40 piesquared joined #minetest
20:40 octacian no APIs for what? do webextensions not support what would be required?
20:41 Fixer_ octacian: they do not
20:41 octacian and what exactly is missing?
20:42 Fixer_ octacian: shitloads of stuff, literally, people can't realise things from their prequantum addons, you can google it, it is known
20:42 Fixer_ mozilla slowly adds more apis
20:43 Fixer_ Quantum is insanely fast on my PC
20:43 Fixer_ PreQuantum is insanely slow
20:44 GreenDimond ^
20:44 GreenDimond Can confirm this for most PCs
20:44 octacian Just name one API that's missing please. From what I can see, all that you'd need to recreate flashgot is there. IDK about integration with a download manager, but then too I've never used one and don't really know what they do either.
20:44 Fixer_ waiting for this https://www.ghacks.net/2018/10/27/firefox-65-dedicated-profiles-per-install/ and then I off to FF65 and will keep ESR for s p e c i a l  t a s k s
20:45 Fixer_ octacian: flashgot is powerful, say you want to dl some files, press key, list of links appears, you select (incl wildcards), OK, -> adds to your file manager queue, ???, POWERFUL, DL thousands of files this way, it is still 10/10 addon
20:46 puzzlecube joined #minetest
20:46 octacian And that could be done with a firefox WebExtension.
20:46 Fixer_ saved me shit-ton of time
20:46 Fixer_ octacian: probabaly, but not yet, alternatives are shit
20:46 Fixer_ octacian: stuff like tabmix, session manager can't
20:47 rubenwardy tree view tabs
20:48 rubenwardy -view +style
20:49 Fixer_ rubenwardy: on 16:9 shitscreens tree view is very useful
20:49 Fixer_ if only it was 16:10
20:50 Fixer_ early 2019 i will go quantum, don't worry
20:50 Fixer_ i can't stand those insane lags
20:50 Fixer_ on my i5
20:51 Fixer_ not even funny, barely usable browser, feels like 20 years back in time to some Celeron 300mhz
20:51 rubenwardy *cough* generation 1 i5 *cough*
20:51 Fixer_ rubenwardy: gen 3
20:51 octacian well IDRK but it sure seems as though all the APIs required are there. some things just haven't been ported yet
20:51 rubenwardy basically just as bad :)
20:51 Fixer_ rubenwardy: it is not that i5, but firefox is slow as fuck
20:52 Fixer_ rubenwardy: quantum or chrome are fast as ferrari on that pc
20:53 Fixer_ i have tooons of bookmarks and 67 tabs opened, prequantum just can't process that
20:54 GreenDimond 67 tabs.. pah
20:54 GreenDimond I know someone who has about.. 200?
20:54 Fixer_ GreenDimond: and only few of them are actually loaded
20:54 GreenDimond They use waterfox
20:55 Fixer_ GreenDimond: they are not loaded tabs, cold start is like 5-10 on i5+ssd
20:56 Fixer_ i'm using firefox since literally first version, and its UI always felt _laggy_
20:56 Fixer_ when some tab loads in background - you feel the heat everywhere
20:56 Fixer_ Peak Lag was FF44 or near it
20:56 Fixer_ then they did some optimisations
20:57 Fixer_ but Quantum is speedlight ahead, it is not subjective, it is insta-start with mostly similar addons and bookmarks
20:57 Fixer_ and everything loads noticeably faster, no more dial up feal
20:57 Fixer_ page rendering
20:58 Calinou Chromium still feels faster in my experience, especially on JavaScript-heavy websites
20:59 Calinou this is even more true on mobile, where I use Bromite now (privacy-enhanced fork of Chromium with built-in ad blocking)
20:59 Calinou it doesn't block everything as it's not a proper ad-blocking add-on like uBlock Origin though :(
20:59 Fixer_ Firefox is like using a donkey
20:59 Calinou so I still see social share buttons and stuff like that on mobile
20:59 Fixer_ then you sit in your chromium ferrari and HOLY SHIT
20:59 Calinou (and anti-adblock/cookie banners)
20:59 Fixer_ Firefox Prequantum*
21:01 Fixer_ Calinou: Bromite, need to add this to bookmarks, i'm using firefox on my tablet
21:02 Calinou https://www.bromite.org/
21:02 Calinou oh, it has a new logo now :)
21:03 Calinou it also has a DuckDuckGo search option, which I can't live without now
21:03 Calinou (Chrome/Chromium doesn't ship with it, and you can't add it on Android)
21:07 rubenwardy firefox runs perfectly fine for me
21:08 Fixer_ rubenwardy: quantum, but prequantum one is not perfectly all
21:09 rubenwardy I don't use old versions
21:10 Fixer_ firefox quantum is enough for any normie

22:53 xrogaan I have an azerty keyboard, and for some reason minetest does not recognize one of my keys.

22:53 xrogaan (when I press the é key)

23:38 xrogaan so the error message is an irrlicht one?
23:39 xrogaan urgh, they still use svn.
23:43 xrogaan rubenwardy: in any case, it's not handled properly by the game. There is no feedback, no error message.
