Time Nick Message 14:40 yusf What are som good cave generating API mods for MT? 16:48 Macindaw__ Hi 16:53 Krock bai 17:13 Boingo Is there a way to have privs assigned to groups, and put users in the groups? Instead of assigning privs to each individual user... 17:16 sfan5 builtin no 17:16 sfan5 but there might be a mod that provides this 18:48 blaise some guy named freddy put a bunch of anvils in my subway tunnels 18:50 Krock WE and protection mods solve that issue for you 18:51 blaise yeah, I fell asleep digging the tunnels 18:51 blaise lol 18:51 blaise was using digtron 18:54 sebboh Hi all 18:57 Krock hi 18:57 sebboh My five year old and I have been playing on the local lan for a while and now I'm thinking about checking out some worlds hosted online. I gamed online myself from about 1996 through maybe 2002 using a service called Kahn (cf. Kali). What has changed since then? 18:58 Krock minetest in 2002? 18:58 sebboh I think most gamers these days use headsets and out-of-game software for them, is that right? 18:58 Krock well, Mumble is used in a few places as voice chatting software 18:58 sebboh No, not minetest. :) Descent 1 and 2, Warcraft II.. 18:59 sebboh Are some minetest servers known to be kid-friendly? 18:59 Krock but Minetest doesn't have support for any of them yet, so it depends on the server whether voice is available there or not 18:59 Krock yes and no. there are always rude players around and weakly moderated servers 18:59 sebboh So the server may or may not run some 3rd party voice software, am I understanding you? 19:00 Krock exactly. a few might also have a discord server which allows voice communication 19:01 Krock some also have a IRC bridge to the in-game chat which is (of course) only text 19:01 blaise it's not built in to the game 19:01 blaise only the irc bridge, but that's a mod 19:01 Krock server = physical machine that may be able to run programs 19:01 Krock minetest server or minetestserver = hosts a minetest server 19:07 blaise Krock: I can't even get rid of the anvil with the admin pick from maptools 19:07 blaise lol 19:08 blaise am I going to have to remove the cottage mod to kill these anvils? 19:08 ThomasMonroe Worldedit can't even do it? 19:08 blaise I'm not savvy with we 19:10 blaise ThomasMonroe: how would I do that? 19:11 ThomasMonroe you'd set pos1 and pos2 to the anvil and the run `//set air` 19:11 ThomasMonroe then run* 19:11 Krock otherwise a hacked/edited client can help you 19:12 * ThomasMonroe just got finished wrapping his head around smart ptrs XD 19:16 blaise ThomasMonroe: thanks 19:16 ThomasMonroe yw 19:33 sebboh My wife and I discussed this and we think that a good minetest server for young kids (5 years old) would be one where the kids aren't allowed to join unless their own parent joins with them. So, there's always an even number of players and half of them are adults, get it? Does any such server exist or is anyone interested in participating in this if I start one? 19:35 sebboh ...I guess multiple parents or multiple kids would be OK and that would break the even number/half and half thing I described--whatever. :) 19:35 sfan5 I don't think such a server exists, your current options for guaranteed family friendliness are singleplayer 19:37 Out`Of`Control sebboh: so you need adult to defend kids against kids? 19:38 sebboh Well nothing in life is guaranteed. :) Remember when I said I played online starting back in 1996 or so? Those people became close friends. The relationships you create online as a child are important. 19:39 sebboh Out`Of`Control: Maybe a kids-only server would be OK, but is there any such thing? Who keeps adults out of it, and how? 19:40 Out`Of`Control how do you check age online? 19:40 sebboh (a kids-only server was the first idea my wife had, but she acknowledged that kids themselves might not be able to keep it that way.) 19:41 Out`Of`Control you would need a closed server, Users have to send you email to get an account or so 19:41 VanessaE well you could present a question or problem that no child could solve 19:41 Out`Of`Control haha rly 19:42 sfan5 ask whether they believe in santa 19:42 sebboh VanessaE: 1. that's unlikely and 2. but I think we need the inverse! 19:42 sebboh :) 19:45 sebboh I figure if I can find some kids and parents who are very similar to my kid and myself then we might enjoy playing minetest together, that's all. Meanwhile I'm fully aware of the breadth and depth of the internet. :P I grew up here, entirely unsupervised... And that was in the days of dialup... No way am I letting my five year old do that. I was over twice his age when I got online. 19:45 VanessaE sebboh: kids are FAR more resourceful than they're given credit for - there's just no 100% accurate way to verify their age. 19:46 rubenwardy "What year did NASA land on the moon?" [2003] [1969] [Trick question, the moon landings were faked] 19:46 sebboh VanessaE: talk to Out`Of`Control, I'm not trying to verify anyone's age. 19:46 VanessaE besides, what kid wants to have mom or dad watching them play? 19:46 sofar rubenwardy: lol 19:46 VanessaE haha 19:46 Out`Of`Control haha 19:47 sebboh VanessaE: my five year old wants me to watch him play. He won't leave me alone while he plays, he wants to show me everything he builds 19:47 VanessaE ok, fair enough 19:47 sofar there's a few servers out there that actively try to police and keep the servers playable for kids 19:47 sofar e.g. TPS 19:47 Out`Of`Control sebboh: you can join any server, just hide chat 19:47 VanessaE my servers used to be kid-friendly 19:47 VanessaE but not really so much anymore. 19:48 VanessaE (not for *that* age group anyway) 19:48 Out`Of`Control my server is kids friendly, but not sure about 5 yrs 19:48 rubenwardy redcat is pretty good 19:48 sebboh sofar: TPS? I don't have my minetest client in front of me right now.. Performance not an issue. I have a python module which sends minetest commands over irc to build structures in minetest. Used for teaching python to kids. Some of the kids want to run this at home on their own minetest world which is why I would like windows. I’ll keep trying. 20:45 Heckstatic https://a.uguu.se/3bP1I2dUI80D_mb.png we're getting somewhere 20:47 Heckstatic https://a.uguu.se/YgnOhlXHIkaP_mibi3.gif 20:51 timcu Yay I got it working 21:01 Heckstatic https://a.uguu.se/Uv2eOJee8rKM_mibi5.gif 21:03 Heckstatic so my "engine" now has animation state machines 21:47 pebe hi is in this game mod simular to world edit ? 21:47 sfan5 yes 21:47 sfan5 !mod worldedit 21:47 MinetestBot sfan5: WorldEdit [worldedit] by sfan5 - https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?t=572 21:47 pebe thanks 23:25 Heckstatic https://a.uguu.se/HZjIFQzIBi37_fl.gif blend maps done 23:27 Heckstatic the only thing happening in player step is checking if we're grounded, everything else lives in the animation chart 23:54 Fixer is this from anime? 23:55 Heckstatic no it's from blended :^) 23:55 Heckstatic blender*
