Time Nick Message 01:40 IhrFussel My server is the 2nd 0.4.16 server on the list, yay xD 01:47 wilkgr lol nice :) 02:01 GreenDimond Has launchpad been updated?? 02:03 GreenDimond Welp. Looks like it has. 02:16 GreenDimond So... the PPA for ubuntu was updated... but when I used synaptic to upgrade it, it only upgraded minetest and not MTG 02:25 Hirato my first thought was "magic: the gathering" 03:11 Fatar How do I avoid my internet connection getting cyberblasted when I'm loading up a server? 03:12 Fatar I get stuck download mods in the MEDIA part and then since the incoming bandwith or something is too high, poof, I get dced from my router 04:04 bigfoot547 Night y'all! 04:44 AlexYst calcul0n: My original design had a white list like that, which allowed me to call coral a mineral. However, the entire purpose of my new design is that it functions even when default isn't used and even when mods add new minerals. A white list is off the table. 04:57 redblade7 hi 04:59 redblade7 i am upgrading two of my servers for 0.4.16 04:59 redblade7 i wanted to get the nyancat/pb&jpup mod 04:59 redblade7 but i want to change it so all nyancats are replaced with pb&jpups, like the original plan 05:00 redblade7 i know how to edit out the random choice 05:00 redblade7 but i want to change the substitution 05:00 redblade7 and wonder how that's done 06:15 redblade7 also, if i was to use postgresql with three servers, are there any instructions on how to do backups? 06:16 redblade7 i'd hate to go from leveldb to sqlite as i went to leveldb because it was faster 06:37 redblade7 hey i'm getting an unknown item "homedecor:chair" 06:37 redblade7 in the latest homedecor_modpack 06:37 redblade7 i dont know what it is 07:08 redblade7 well i'm going to bed, be back later 07:38 MinetestBot 02[git] 04CasimirKaPazi -> 03minetest/minetest: Mapgen v6: Use snow blocks in tundra and remove them from taiga (#5827) 130e58168 https://git.io/vH2QI (152017-06-04T07:37:30Z) 07:48 dusko hi there 07:48 dusko i have a question 07:49 dusko in my minetest 0.4.15 dev there is only possible to have 23 things in menu 07:49 dusko i insterted some mods but there is still 23 items 07:50 dusko so, how could i set more place for items in menu 07:53 sfan5 which menu are you referring to? 07:54 dusko sfan5: menu when i type "i" on keyboard 07:55 dusko sfan5: there it is: http://imgur.com/a/orClK 07:55 dusko sfan5: i inserted there few mods but still 23 07:56 dusko sfan5: there u can see 07:56 sfan5 you need to make sure the mods are actually enabled and working 07:56 dusko sfan5: http://imgur.com/a/LKLth 07:57 sfan5 i see some red errors in the background, deal with those first and then see 07:57 dusko sfan5: how to fix them 07:57 MinetestBot 02[git] 04nerzhul -> 03minetest/minetest: JsonCPP update from 0.10.6 to 1.8.0 132362d3f https://git.io/vH2QN (152017-06-04T07:57:08Z) 07:57 MinetestBot 02[git] 04nerzhul -> 03minetest/minetest: Minetest for C++11 (CMakeLists + Travis) 13bf6569b https://git.io/vH2QA (152017-06-04T07:57:08Z) 07:57 dusko sfan5: i am totally new in this 07:58 dusko sfan5: there is also list of mods: http://imgur.com/a/5lw2u 07:58 sfan5 you check and see which dependencies are missing 07:58 sfan5 and install those 07:58 sfan5 for example the first error means you are missing unifieddyes 07:58 dusko sfan5: have u got teamwiever 12 on your pc 07:59 sfan5 nope 07:59 dusko sfan5: any remote client 07:59 sfan5 you just need to install a few more mods 07:59 sfan5 no remote client needed for that 08:00 dusko sfan5: check out this bro: http://imgur.com/a/jRTMB 08:00 dusko sfan5: do not know what it says 08:00 sfan5 you're missing unifieddyes and biome_lib 08:01 sfan5 and it seems that homedecor and mobs were not installed correctly 08:01 dusko sfan5: i just insterted them nothing changed 08:02 dusko sfan5: any idea how to install those missing libs 08:02 sfan5 search for them on the forums 08:03 Jupiter_ or just straight-up google it, https://github.com/minetest-mods/unifieddyes for instance has specific instructions in the Install part of the .md file 08:04 dusko Jupiter_: do i need to instert this into mods 08:05 Jupiter_ god damn it did you even read the "install part" you lazy goat 08:07 red-001 that most be the first time I heard the phrase "lazy goat" 08:07 red-001 and that pharse is awesome 08:08 dusko Jupiter_: cant believe it works 08:09 dusko Jupiter_: but i still got some errors 08:09 dusko Jupiter_: http://imgur.com/TQNi3n4 08:09 dusko sfan5: http://imgur.com/TQNi3n4 08:09 dusko sfan5: i got that 08:10 sfan5 you. are. missing. biome_lib. 08:10 Jupiter_ Same error type same mistake 08:11 dusko Jupiter_: yes but it fixed other errors 08:11 Jupiter_ When you install mods, the "install" part is important, but more important than that is the "dependencies" part, without them, mods won't work, game will break, player will cry 08:12 Jupiter_ dusko: it fixed SOME dependencies error but you still lack the mods mentioned in it: mobs and biome_lib as sfan5 said 08:18 dusko i have now downloaded and insterted that biome_lib but still got errors. i also changed name from biome_lib-master to biome_lib 08:19 dusko i think i fixed error biome_lib, now i must fix "mobs" 08:19 Jupiter_ Now you're getting the hang of it 08:21 dusko Jupiter_: now i'm starting to understnd how it works 08:21 dusko Jupiter_: thakns bro ;) 08:21 dusko Jupiter_: only problem is that i cant find mobs lib to download 08:21 dusko Jupiter_: and can u recommend some mod with humans 08:22 Jupiter_ dusko: yup I looked it up and didn't find it, are you trying to install this: https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?t=629 08:23 Jupiter_ dusko: I can't really recommend mods with humans, sorry, maybe make a forum post about it? 08:23 dusko Jupiter_: yeah 08:23 dusko Jupiter_: that is what i'm trying to install 08:23 Jupiter_ dusko: So you just unzipped it in your mods folder, right? 08:24 dusko Jupiter_: yep 08:24 dusko Jupiter_: i downloaded it from category "stable verison" on that link 08:25 dusko Jupiter_: stable download * 08:25 Jupiter_ dusko: have you checked if all the mods are indeed enabled? 08:26 Jupiter_ dusko: also the mod seems to be outdated, so it may simply not work on the latest version of minetest, I'm sorry 08:26 dusko Jupiter_: possible thanks a lot 08:26 dusko thanks all of u sfan5 Jupiter_ red-001 08:27 dusko sfan5 Jupiter_ red-001 if i would have some problems i will ask 08:28 Jupiter_ dusko: If it doesn't work, try installing this instead: https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?t=9917 It is however more tedious to install as you have to unzip 4 different submods 09:07 Jupiter_ I asked this question earlier this morning, but how can I join a server without the loading "media" killing my internet connection? 09:07 sfan5 you don't 09:08 Jupiter_ That seems counter-intuitive, how can I join a server then 09:09 sfan5 how can i achieve without ? 09:09 sfan5 the answer is you can't 09:09 sfan5 a slightly complicated way of avoiding media loading is to install the same sets of mods as the server and run a local game once which will populate the cache 09:09 Jupiter_ sfan5: What I want to avoid is the "media" loading absolutely killing my bandwith and (somehow) making me disconnect from my router 09:10 Jupiter_ If the incoming/outgoing traffic could be limited I think it would fix this 09:10 sfan5 media loading does not kill your bandwidth more than any other download 09:10 sfan5 also this is a sign that your router sucks 09:11 Out`Of`Control is 0.4.16 out? 09:11 Jupiter_ sfan5: well I didn't really choose it, but thks lmao. What happens is that it gets stucks at 0% and then I get dced from my router 09:11 Out`Of`Control hello 09:11 sfan5 Out`Of`Control: ye 09:11 Out`Of`Control update topic 09:12 sfan5 Jupiter_: try a vpn ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 09:12 sfan5 !op 09:12 sfan5 !deop 09:12 Out`Of`Control Jupiter_: you can set limit on your PC 09:14 Jupiter_ Out`Of`Control, can't seem to be able to do bandwith thingy limit on my router. Also it just happens for this game, so I'm kinda lazy and I wanted to know if there's some thingy I could enable in the config files or smthng 09:14 Out`Of`Control Jupiter_: try other server with less mods 09:15 sfan5 there isn't really anything the application can do if your router bugs out with UDP traffic 09:17 Jupiter_ Out`Of`Control, Yeah the test mods server & cyberia seems to work, but one is a hellish stone landscape and the other is empty 09:17 Jupiter_ sfan5: Well that's a shame, alright then 09:25 MinetestBot IhrFussel: Jun-04 09:17 UTC Did it work with the windows binary? 09:25 IhrFussel Krock, yes she was able to run it on 64-bit 09:26 Krock great :) 09:27 sfan5 btw Krock how come your msvc build is a few MB bigger than the mingw one? 09:27 Krock sfan5, debug database 09:27 Krock it's about 14 MiB uncompressed 09:28 sfan5 oh 09:28 IhrFussel But now I got another problem: Since chat prediction got removed in 0.4.15-dev and ALL other versions before showed their own messages directly in the chat, any user with 0.4.15-dev or 0.4.16 now can't see their messages on my server cause I modify all user messages before I sent them and I expected the clients to show their own messages which means the sender gets ignored... if I enable the message for the sender 09:28 IhrFussel as well OLD clients will see their messages twice 09:28 red-001 IhrFussel, check the clients protocol version 09:29 Jupiter_ Oh btw, how do I check out which mods are enabled on a server I visit 09:29 IhrFussel red-001, will that work for old clients? Like 0.4.14? 09:29 red-001 it should 09:29 sfan5 Jupiter_: /mods 09:29 IhrFussel Jupiter_, /mods ingame or servers.minetest.net and hover with the mouse over the game field 09:29 red-001 check if they protocol version is larger then iirc 29 in that cause they wouldn't see thier own messages 09:30 Jupiter_ Thanks sfan5 and IhrFussel 09:30 IhrFussel Or was it hovering over the server name field...not sure 09:30 red-001 * 29 or greater 09:30 red-001 https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/master/src/network/networkprotocol.h#L147 09:31 IhrFussel red-001, so I need to check if protocol version is >= 29 and if it's true display message to the sender? 09:32 red-001 yes 09:32 IhrFussel And what will old clients tell? nil? 09:32 red-001 older clients display thier own messages before sending them to the server 09:33 IhrFussel Yes but I mean what if I check for <29 ? 09:33 Jupiter_ Hmm also, is there a way to check real server population, and not server population, bots included? 09:33 red-001 isn't that just the previous check reversed? 09:34 IhrFussel Jupiter_, they are not bots, they play on an app that gives them the pre-determined names 09:34 red-001 <29: display message before sending it to server 09:34 red-001 >=29: don't display message just send it to server 09:34 Jupiter_ IhrFussel, What seriously? I thought they were soulless husk. hmm. The more you know 09:37 IhrFussel red-001, what's the name of the function again? I can't find it in Lua API txt 09:38 Krock minetest.get_player_information(player_name) 09:38 Krock ninja'd, red-001 :P 09:38 red-001 noooooo 09:38 red-001 I was ninja'd once more 09:39 red-001 this this revenge for ninja'ing you yesterday? 09:40 red-001 minetest.get_player_information(player_name).prot_vers 09:40 red-001 wait a second 09:40 red-001 I think the docs are wrong 09:40 IhrFussel And would a client with prot version 28 or lower also return its correct value or nil? 09:40 red-001 minetest.get_player_information(player_name).protocol_version 09:41 red-001 it should return the correct protocol version 09:41 red-001 really, really old clients/servers return 0 09:41 red-001 but I think we already dropped support for those 09:42 IhrFussel And to check for the protocol version on each chat message isn't too heavy either? Or should I rather set a table on joinplayer? 09:42 red-001 it shouldn't be too heavy 09:43 red-001 it's just looking up some data after all 09:43 IhrFussel I wonder...does the c++ code store all player data in an array? 09:44 red-001 I think every client gets their own c++ object 09:45 IhrFussel I have no clue about objects in programming xP 09:45 red-001 anyway it shouldn't be an issue to get this data from c++ 09:45 red-001 the code does something similar every time it gets a chat message 09:52 IhrFussel Okay I implemented the code and just restarted...let's see if it works :P 09:56 IhrFussel Ok can confirm it works...someone with 0.4.15 stable still sees their own chat prediction messages and 0.4.15-dev+ sees the modified one from the server..awesome! 10:13 Out`Of`Control WARNING[Main]: /!\ You are using old player file backend. This backend is deprecated and will be removed in next release /!\ 10:13 Out`Of`Control where i can read about it? How convert it 10:13 red-001 there is a wikipage 10:13 * red-001 wonders if he is secerctly german 10:14 red-001 I make wayy too many accidental compound-words 10:14 red-001 !wiki 10:14 Out`Of`Control red-001: i mean how can you delete players from that database and so on 10:15 Krock http://wiki.minetest.net/Database_backends#Player_backend 10:15 red-001 iirc minetest.remove_player 10:15 red-001 but that doesn't remove the auth data 10:15 red-001 so minetest.player_exists will still return true 10:15 Krock well, minetest.auth_table_name_somewhat[name] = nil does it 10:15 Out`Of`Control so i can't use script to remove many at once? 10:16 Krock surely you can 10:16 red-001 just a lua script 10:16 Out`Of`Control right i use bash 10:16 Out`Of`Control now* 10:16 red-001 or you could mess around with the database directly 10:16 Krock if it's a seperate script, it'll have to open the sqlite3 database and run queries 10:18 Out`Of`Control thanks 10:20 Out`Of`Control what is stored in players_backend? 10:20 Out`Of`Control worldname/players? 10:23 Krock huh? it will contain all player data but auth 10:26 IhrFussel Can you attach nodes to entities/players with light source? 10:27 IhrFussel I mean can you attach nodes with light source to players/entities* 10:28 Out`Of`Control when slopes get water friendly? without air chunks 10:31 redblade7 i'm having some problems with coloredwood after updating to 0.4.16 10:31 redblade7 there are some nodes like coloredwood:slab_wood_light_orange and coloredwood:wood_light_blue which no longer exist and are unknown items now 10:42 tree_ hi all 10:42 tree_ how to launch minetest on linux ? 10:42 tree_ is there any instruction how to do that ? 10:43 tree_ i'm running on ubuntu 16.04 10:43 Out`Of`Control tree_: did you compile it? 10:44 Out`Of`Control ./bin/minetest 10:45 red-001 if you didn't compile it: minetest 10:50 tree_ nvm I installed it again by software center 10:50 tree_ and now it works 10:57 Calinou hi :) 10:57 Calinou posted about Minetest 0.4.16 release on some subreddits :P 10:59 red-001 huh I need to update itch.io 10:59 red-001 I should figure out how to cross-compile for windows 10:59 red-001 so I can get a non RUN_IN_PLACE build 11:01 Calinou red-001: you on Linux? 11:01 red-001 yes 11:01 Calinou it shouldn't be too hard to compile for Windows then 11:01 Calinou your distro may have pre-compiled MinGW packages 11:01 red-001 well I think I just need to build the libs 11:02 red-001 I tried using the buildbot but it either fails to link or segfaults when I try to start it 11:02 red-001 (in wine) 11:44 sfan5 just use the c+ 11:44 sfan5 compiler that travis uses, that one is guaranteed to work 12:04 Calinou if people are interested, https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/6f6s20/minetest_0416_released_open_source/ 12:06 IhrFussel In 0.4.16 chests also play a opening sound when someone else accesses them while they're opened...is that intentional? 12:06 red-001 well thats what you get when offical policy was "no new features in minetest_game" for quite some time 12:07 Krock lol, why should it be a problem using irrlicht? 12:10 ThomasMonroe may i ask a dumb question? 12:11 Jupiter_ No 12:11 Jupiter_ but go ahead 12:11 ThomasMonroe lol 12:12 ThomasMonroe why wasnt another game engine used? 12:12 red-001 who knows (tm) 12:12 red-001 well I think celeron55 said it was something todo with copyright or something 12:13 redblade7 please help if you can 12:13 redblade7 https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=17793 12:13 ThomasMonroe bcs ive looked at plenty of free gameengines like cafu and they seem much better than irrlicht 12:13 sfan5 did those engines you looked at exist in 2011? 12:18 ThomasMonroe hmm 12:18 ThomasMonroe i do not know atm 12:18 ThomasMonroe but i believe so 12:40 red-001 can I embedded a formspec dropdown inside a table? 12:42 red-001 yes, no, maybe? 13:37 celeron55 ThomasMonroe: did you look at them in 2010? 13:37 celeron55 (hi) 13:39 celeron55 tl;dr history of minetest's graphics library choice: in 2010, there was irrlicht and ogre, and irrlicht was more freely licensed 13:39 celeron55 since then, pretty much everything has changed except minetest 13:39 Fixer except minetest_game *cough* 13:40 Fixer mtg is real stability approaching graveyard levels /s 13:40 red-001 Fixer, debian stability 13:40 Fixer sorry for interrupting 13:41 Calinou true, OGRE was LGPL back in 2010 13:41 Calinou now it's MIT 13:41 celeron55 lennart poettering needs an opposing force, and this is the only thing we have 13:41 Fixer debian will be opposite force 13:41 Fixer not minetest 13:42 red-001 Debain: Opposing Force 13:42 Calinou poor Ain Murdock :( 13:43 Fixer red-001: LOL 13:49 vincentux Bonjour à tous, j'ai eu un souci depuis la mMAJ en 0.4.16 voir sur le forum : https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=17794 merci 13:50 sfan5 you might want the french channel instead: #minetest-fr 13:53 vincentux oups, merci ;) 13:53 ThomasMonroe oh sry i was playing around, lol 13:54 ThomasMonroe no sry celeron55 i did not 14:23 EDAKIRI VanessaE: I only see normal maps : trees_tree_conifer_normal.jpg trees_tree_palm_normal.jpg 14:23 EDAKIRI VanessaE: Are there more ? 14:24 EDAKIRI I am looking at hdx-256 14:29 VanessaE EDAKIRI: normalmaps for HDX are obsolete 14:30 VanessaE don't use them 14:30 VanessaE just delete *_normal.jpg 14:30 VanessaE most of them are outdated 14:30 VanessaE and all of them generated by filtering textures in different ways, rather than being hand-crafted 14:34 EDAKIRI VanessaE: (How) are normal maps stored now? 14:41 VanessaE stored? 14:42 VanessaE I don't understand the question 14:43 EDAKIRI Do normal maps exist (aside from the 2 files i listed) now? 14:43 xerox123 is it possible to run 3 world's off the same installation simultaneously 14:43 VanessaE no, they do not. 14:43 VanessaE I discontinued the HDX normalmaps repositoryu 14:43 VanessaE -u 14:43 EDAKIRI Would you advise using the minetest normal map generation? 14:43 VanessaE xerox123: you can run as many instances as you want, as long as each one has its own config file and of course its own world dir 14:43 VanessaE EDAKIRI: I would not. 14:44 VanessaE normalmaps are ugly if done wrong, and they cost FPS. I've never been very fond of the auto-generated normalmaps, either. 14:44 xerox123 ok 14:44 EDAKIRI He would need different address:port combinations for each world also, i think. 14:44 VanessaE EDAKIRI: correct, but that would be stored in the config 14:44 EDAKIRI Thanks for the advice. 14:46 EDAKIRI by 'config file', i think you mean minetest.conf. An alternative would be to use a single minetest.conf and state a unique port for each on each command line. 14:47 VanessaE no 14:47 VanessaE don't do that. 14:47 VanessaE you can point minetest to a different config file than usual by using the `--config` command line switch 15:08 onciblu hello 15:08 Krock hey there 15:09 onciblu I am having a hard time finding papyrus 15:09 onciblu is there any hint or just sheer luck? 15:10 Krock luck, and if you don't find any for days, then it's called bug 15:11 red-001 it's called really large biomes 15:12 Krock the cheater method would be to generate the terrain using /emergeblocks here 300 then changing the colors.txt of minetestmapper and run the mapper 15:12 Krock changing the color will have the effect of seeing the papyrus more easily 15:13 red-001 Krock, oredectect 15:13 Krock red-001, not effective for such big areas 15:13 Krock *oredetect 15:14 Fixer look for papyrus in savannah/jungle near seas/rivers 15:15 onciblu hmm, thanks. I found some in single player in a red savana(I think). But didn't found any on my friends server 15:15 Krock it's quite hard to find papyrus and clay sometimes 15:16 onciblu And I fell I generated too much terrain on his server. Found a jungle but no luck 15:16 Krock don't worry. the stuff is all compressed :3 15:16 Fixer Krock: clay problem was fixed 15:16 Krock Fixer, ah, so it spawns more often now? 15:16 Fixer Krock: yes, that was a bug 15:17 Fixer some time ago 15:17 Krock looks like I missed that issue and corresponding PR 15:18 Fixer probably in 0.4.13 or near it 15:18 onciblu can confirm. Found lots of clay 15:26 rubenwardy I'd use a difference config per word 15:26 rubenwardy oops, was scrolled up quite far 15:27 Krock lol hi rubenwardy 15:28 onciblu he is running some mods. Maybe that affects it as well 15:46 paramat onciblu which mapgen? 15:47 paramat in non-mgv6 mapgens papyrus only occurs in savanna 15:48 paramat so yes it may be a long distance if you are unlucky (up to a few thousand nodes), but exploration and adventure is good 15:50 paramat savanna is found on the edges of rainforest or orange desert 15:50 paramat or hot edge of grassland 16:02 onciblu I think he is using techinic mods (wich requires paper for a lot of things) and dry grasses 16:20 EDAKIRI for mg_flags , 'light' is in the example config , but not at https://dev.minetest.net/mg_flags 16:20 EDAKIRI along with 'decorations' 16:22 EDAKIRI Does changing chunk size alter mapgen output? Does it create different nodes? 16:30 Krock EDAKIRI, no. Big chunk sizes will only generate more map data per "step", low chunk sizes will trigger the map generator more often and spread the load but might also result in chopped trees (from what I've seen) 16:31 EDAKIRI Krock: thanks 16:31 Krock !next 16:31 MinetestBot Another satisfied customer. Next! 16:31 EDAKIRI I've just found this. https://dev.minetest.net/Mapgen_Parameters#Chunk_size 16:32 EDAKIRI "larger values take longer to generate but blocks generate quicker on average and could produce larger, more intricate caves and dungeons. " 16:32 Krock it's not https btw 16:34 EDAKIRI It can be loaded by HTTPS, but the certificate has no stated issuer. 16:35 onciblu about the technic mod, does anyone know how to use the mining laser? does it need power? 16:35 Krock yes, charge it ni a battery 16:35 Krock once the bar is entirely green, start clicking and destroying 16:36 Krock (the battery node) 16:36 Krock this means you'll need a low voltage net to charge the battery node, which then can charge the mining laser 17:10 paramat the wiki is out of date, old news, be suspicious of it 17:12 paramat EDAKIRI smaller chunksize causes a higher density of dungeons and certain caves 17:13 paramat because those have a fixed number per chunk 17:13 IhrFussel I found a translation bug in German: "Addresse" needs to be "Adresse" 17:13 paramat chunksize 1 is insane for dungeons 17:14 paramat but terrain shape is unaffected 17:15 EDAKIRI Thanks. I play without dungeons. 17:15 onciblu I heard tnt mechanics changed 17:16 onciblu The guy was super exited to show me how tnt is awesome 17:16 onciblu Then he exploded some and went extremally "meh" 17:29 paramat well small batches of TNT now explode in one go with a larger explosion, just use more TNT 17:31 red-001 IhrFussel, weblate? 17:31 IhrFussel I never used weblate, shouldn't it rather do someone who's more experienced? o.o 17:32 red-001 it's pretty user friendly 17:32 red-001 https://hosted.weblate.org/translate/minetest/minetest/de/?checksum=&offset=&q=Addresse&search=substring&source=on&target=on&type=all&ignored=False 17:32 red-001 that string? 17:32 onciblu he used a bunch. according to him "it should create a holer bigger than the render distance 17:35 IhrFussel red-001, I just corrected it and clicked "Suggest" was that right? 17:40 paramat depending on the render distance a hole that big would be difficult to process 17:41 paramat even 80^3 nodes is quite big for a lua voxelmanip (512000 nodes) 17:46 swift110 hey all 17:46 ThomasMonroe hey 17:48 ThomasJaguar1212 I just compiled and set up 0.4.16 today, and i am quite impressed. 17:49 red-001 IhrFussel, do you have a github account? 17:50 IhrFussel Yes sure, I already filed a few issues 17:50 red-001 well if you login with github you can edit the translation not just suggest 17:51 red-001 anyway I accepted this suggestion, just for future referance 17:51 CalebDavis so is it wise to update from 0.4.15 not or wait for a beta 17:52 CalebDavis now* 17:52 red-001 the release doesn't seem to have any major issues 17:52 red-001 so I say go for it 17:52 CalebDavis ok thx 17:53 swift110 how are you Thomas-S 17:53 Thomas-S I'm fine, thanks! And what about you? 17:53 ThomasMonroe hi Thomas-S 17:54 paramat 0.4.16 has many very significant improvements and bugfixes, i can't emphasise this enough 17:54 Thomas-S Hello, ThomasMonroe! 17:54 swift110 im great Thomas-S 17:54 swift110 there is a 4.16 version of the game? 17:54 ThomasMonroe apparently 17:54 CalebDavis it came out yesterday 17:54 paramat yes 17:55 ThomasJaguar1212 my average framerate practically doubled. 17:55 paramat always use the corresponding MTGame, otherwise bugs may occur 17:56 IhrFussel red-001, I see it says translation is locked 17:56 paramat we discovered that particles on servers were being rendered for everyone at extreme distances, noe they are distance limited, a big FPS rise 17:56 paramat *now 18:08 Jupiter_ Is there a hunger mod compatible with sofar's farming mod? 18:08 CalebDavis my fps after i just updated dropped to 10-15 18:09 CalebDavis perhaps my ram is clogged 18:11 Jupiter_ Nvm, found it 18:44 Druath_ #minetest 18:45 Jupiter_ can't argue with that 18:45 Calinou https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=15802 18:46 Calinou AppImages for Minetest 0.4.16 (and Git master) released 18:53 AlexYst I just found Minetest's mod-specific storage feature, with support for 32-bit integers - and those integers wrap!! I'm so exited. 19:01 MinetestBot 02[git] 04nerzhul -> 03minetest/minetest: C++11 patchset 2: remove util/cpp11.h and util/cpp11_container.h (#5821) 13a98baef https://git.io/vHaOd (152017-06-04T19:00:04Z) 19:08 AlexYst Sweet ... If you ask for an integer that hasn't been set yet, it's returned as zero instead of nil. No need to check for nil before using the value. 19:08 AlexYst It looks like I can remove my on_joinplayer function entirely. 19:15 CalebDavis i just updated my minetest and now i cant jump while on the edge of a block 19:16 Calinou CalebDavis: I think this has been an issue for... years 19:16 Calinou since the introduction of nodeboxes 19:16 CalebDavis ahh and it just got fixxed 19:18 paramat that's been an issue for a long time 19:20 CalebDavis so it finaly got fixed? 19:21 paramat no 19:22 CalebDavis ohh well it was jumping it for me b4 19:22 paramat CalebDavis while sneaking on the edge? 19:22 CalebDavis yep 19:23 paramat that's new sneak code then 19:23 paramat there's an option for old sneak code 19:24 CalebDavis so i am not supposed to be able to jump while sneaking on the edge? 19:24 paramat well we're working on it, if that can be made possible it will 19:24 paramat it's just difficult 19:24 CalebDavis ok thx 19:25 paramat see https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=17397 19:26 paramat the option for old snaek code ('old move code') is there temporarily while we try to improve new sneak code 19:26 paramat *sneak 19:26 CalebDavis ok thx 19:27 CalebDavis where is that setting? 19:27 CalebDavis i cant find it in the settings 19:28 paramat see the forum thread 19:28 paramat you enable using a small mod 19:29 swift110 ok so I got the new 4/16 19:29 swift110 4.16 19:29 paramat it's a 'physics override' called 'new move' 19:29 swift110 looking forward to playing it 19:29 CalebDavis ok 19:30 swift110 hey calcul0n 19:30 swift110 hey CalebDavis 19:30 CalebDavis hi swift110 19:31 CalebDavis paramat is that a clientside mod? 19:35 IhrFussel Do extended attributes have any length limit? 19:39 redblade7 hi 19:39 redblade7 is there ANYTHING i can do to get beds working again after I upgraded to 0.4.16? 19:39 redblade7 Players will start getting angry really soon I'm sure 19:39 redblade7 Plenty of stuff is already broken 19:39 redblade7 https://github.com/minetest-mods/homedecor_modpack/issues/367 19:39 redblade7 That and more 19:40 redblade7 But getting beds working is the most critical thing 19:40 redblade7 I had NO IDEA that upgrading to 0.4.16 would break large amounts of content 19:40 redblade7 and THANK GOD i didn't "upgrade" my creative server 19:41 red-001 ask the author of the mod 19:41 redblade7 So this isn't an 0.4.16 issue? 19:42 redblade7 i can find an older version of the mod and all the nodes will come back? 19:42 redblade7 (though I'd have to find old versions of all the dependencies, namely unifieddyes) 19:42 IhrFussel redblade7, uhh not sure what's wrong with your mods but all mods work fine on my server and it runs 0.4.16-dev 19:42 red-001 did you also update the mod? 19:42 redblade7 Yes 19:42 redblade7 I always upgrade all the mods when I upgrade to a new version 19:43 redblade7 The most recent homedecor is being used 19:43 redblade7 Other players have acknowledged that colored books have disappeared once you pick them up 19:43 redblade7 unknown item 19:43 MinetestBot 02[git] 04Thomas--S -> 03minetest/minetest: Remove deprecated code segments (#5891) 13599e13e https://git.io/vHaG0 (152017-06-04T19:42:32Z) 19:43 redblade7 Plus large amounts of wood 19:44 redblade7 VanessaE said something about "static nodes"I didnt understand what she meant 19:44 redblade7 https://github.com/minetest-mods/homedecor_modpack/issues/363 19:44 red-001 ??? 19:44 red-001 that modpack doesn't have beds in it 19:44 VanessaE redblade7: it means "statically colored" as in textures with color baked in. 19:44 VanessaE as opposed to nodes that are param2-colored 19:44 redblade7 https://github.com/minetest-mods/coloredwood/issues/6 19:45 IhrFussel Wait you are NOT talking about the default beds mod then? 19:45 redblade7 the two built-in beds work 19:45 redblade7 right-clicking causes the desired action 19:45 VanessaE fixes for homedecor's books will come soonish 19:45 redblade7 but the homedecor ones dont work anymore 19:45 redblade7 right click them, nothing happens 19:45 VanessaE homedecor's beds don't "sleep" and haven't for a while now 19:46 VanessaE code disabled because it's incompatible with default beds mod 19:46 VanessaE or was 19:46 redblade7 so the bed issue will never be fixed? 19:46 red-001 anyway a mod being broken doesn't have anything todo with 0.4.16 19:46 paramat CalebDavis no, a normal serverside mod 19:47 CalebDavis ok paramat 19:49 VanessaE redblade7: the bed issue will be fixed eventually. 19:49 VanessaE as will the books 19:49 VanessaE and the problem with colored woods 19:49 VanessaE and the glitch in pipeworks' handling of the new "open" chests 19:49 VanessaE pull requests are always welcome 19:49 VanessaE and anyone with access to those repos is welcome to just fix those issues if I can't get to them 19:50 redblade7 so i'm stuck with a mess with no way to downgrade? 19:50 redblade7 two messes? 19:50 redblade7 i wish there would have been warnings 19:50 VanessaE right now, all I care about is that none of my mods nor any of the mods in dreambuilder crash with 0.4.16+corresponding mt_game 19:50 VanessaE there WERE warnings. 19:50 redblade7 where? 19:51 VanessaE on the forum posts 19:51 redblade7 all i saw was the nyan cat thing 19:51 redblade7 nothing in changelogs 19:51 redblade7 nothing in the announcement 19:51 VanessaE and builds were made that work with older versions of MT also 19:51 paramat it's a mod issue 19:51 VanessaE like I said, mods will be fixed. if someone wants to fix them before I do, please do so. 19:51 redblade7 so what do you suggest i do to get at least sleeping beds back? 19:51 VanessaE until then, if they don't crash, I'm happy. 19:51 redblade7 can i use an old version? 19:51 redblade7 at at what commit? 19:52 VanessaE *facepalm* 19:52 VanessaE I don't remember the commit ID. try the 0.4.15 tag. 19:52 redblade7 0.4.15 era coloredwood and homedecor will work? 19:52 VanessaE yes, they should. 19:52 paramat MT changelogs and announcements have nothing to do with mod issues 19:52 VanessaE but then you'll see unknown nodes for everything that already converted over 19:54 redblade7 what about unified dyes? 19:54 paramat the warnings would have been in the homedecor/dreambuilder threads 19:54 redblade7 will unifieddyes have to be downgraded too? 19:55 redblade7 there isn't much using coloredwood as the two servers i upgraded are fairly new 19:55 VanessaE you'd have to downgrade everything yes 19:55 redblade7 but homedecor is what i'm concerned with 19:55 VanessaE or you could just *wait for fixes* 19:55 VanessaE (sound familiar? :P ) 19:56 VanessaE if you downgrade a mod that uses unified dyes, I *THINK* you can just use it as-is 19:56 VanessaE but if you have to downgrade unified dyes, then everything that uses it will probably have to be downgraded also 19:56 redblade7 well i can "wait for fixes" to coloredwood on two of my servers 19:56 redblade7 but i need working beds or people will be angry 19:57 VanessaE then use mt_game beds. 19:57 VanessaE or submit a fix for homedecor 19:57 VanessaE I don't have time to fix it right now 19:57 redblade7 wait...so that wont be fixed? 19:57 redblade7 no i mean in the short term 19:58 VanessaE not immediately, no 19:58 VanessaE unless someone here has access to the homedecor repo and others and can fix it before I get to it 19:58 redblade7 but i can expect a short-term fix for the coloredwood issue? 19:59 redblade7 or is that also long-term 19:59 VanessaE no, don't expect any fixes in the short term 19:59 VanessaE for now, just dig the affected nodes and replace them with something appropriate. 20:02 redblade7 is this what you mean by "0.4.15 homedecor" https://github.com/minetest-mods/homedecor_modpack/releases/tag/0.4.15 20:02 redblade7 there's also "stable-20170228" 20:09 redblade7 VanessaE: 20:10 VanessaE yeah. 20:10 redblade7 which one? 20:10 redblade7 0.4.15 or stable-20170228 20:11 VanessaE stable-20170228 if it works for you, else 0.4.15 20:11 VanessaE the 2017* one was ... hm 20:11 VanessaE what was that for, I can't remember now 20:11 VanessaE I think that was just a snapshot for someone who wanted to make a debian package 20:22 redblade7 2017* doesnt allow sleeping, trying 0.4.15 now 20:23 Krock no sleep for you in this year 20:23 red-001 can confirm 20:23 red-001 or maybe I just have fatal familial insomnia 20:25 redblade7 Krock: i still cant understand why people dont think this is a serious issue 20:25 redblade7 it's one thing to have a book broken and another thing to be unable to sleep in a bed without warning 20:26 redblade7 unlike an inconvenient missing book if players cant sleep they get angry 20:26 red-001 wait so it works it just gives a warning? 20:26 Krock strange 20:28 Krock haven't read the entire discussion above, so perhaps asking again: does the formspec show? 20:30 redblade7 what is a formspec 20:31 redblade7 no players have to be given a warning as to why they have to wait 5 minutes and cant do whta they normally do 20:39 redblade7 HOMEDECOR:KITCHEN_CHAIR_WOOD NOT DEFINED 20:39 redblade7 .. 20:40 redblade7 . 20:40 redblade7 wBOOKS MISSING COMPLETELY NOW 20:40 redblade7 I guess i'm TOTALLY FUCKED 20:40 VanessaE redblade7: please read the github issues you commented on 20:40 VanessaE let's see... homedecor:book 20:40 VanessaE yep, got it 20:41 VanessaE homedecor:kitchen_chair_wood 20:41 VanessaE yep, there it is. 20:41 VanessaE homedecor:kitchen_chair_padded is there too 20:41 redblade7 after i downgraded homedecor_modpack 20:42 redblade7 now i'm stuck with the later version and hopefully no angry players 20:42 VanessaE well duh 20:42 VanessaE old homedecor has hard-coded color with baked textures so the node names are different 20:44 VanessaE and, again, I believe I posted pretty clearly about this back in fricken January: https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2041&start=700#p248958 20:46 redblade7 i dont see anything about sleeping... 20:46 VanessaE I mean the color stuff 20:47 VanessaE and if you look at your github issue I commented there 20:51 redblade7 wait a minute 20:51 redblade7 colored books do exist 20:51 redblade7 but only in the admin creative inventory 20:51 redblade7 using unified_inventory 20:52 redblade7 users have unified_inventory_lite 20:52 redblade7 let me see if it's a _lite issue 20:53 jcalve https://p.iotek.org/me8.png 20:54 jcalve i updated my server today and i'm seeing this floating around 20:54 jcalve could they be from an outdated mod or? 20:55 redblade7 nope 20:55 Krock it's from a mod you disabled 20:55 jcalve i see now they are from a mod i deleted earlier 20:55 redblade7 writable books do exist but it's only in admin account's inventory 20:55 redblade7 will update the github 20:58 redblade7 "Writable book" is visible in unified_inventory and can be dyed by punching, but only by the admin account. It is not visible in user accounts and is an unknown item for them. 20:58 redblade7 just added to github 20:59 redblade7 wait 20:59 redblade7 "Writable book" is visible in unified_inventory and can be dyed by punching, but only by the admin account. It is not visible in user accounts' inventories and is an unknown item for them after picking it up (existing books are visible for both users and admin). 21:00 redblade7 Manually fixing the coloredwood in my case is not an issue as the servers I upgraded were both fairly new servers 21:01 redblade7 i didnt upgrade the 1-year-old one 21:04 redblade7 The bed issue is tolerable. I give time privileges to people who speak english and promise not to troll 21:04 redblade7 Or they can wait 21:04 redblade7 it's just confusing 21:04 redblade7 i left a note at my spawn/news section 21:16 redblade7 how do i prevent wooden planks from being colored? 21:16 redblade7 every time i put a blank one it turns to the last color i used 21:25 redblade7 HELP 21:26 redblade7 EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF WOOD I DROP AUTOMATICALLY TURNS TO LIGHT BLUE 21:27 juhdanad Do you use any mods? 21:28 redblade7 you missed everything juhdanad 21:28 juhdanad A moment, I'll read the logs... 21:32 redblade7 (quitting and restarting reset the mod) 21:32 redblade7 apparently i cant worldedit this building, it says "invalid argument" 21:33 redblade7 one by one replacing the blocks 21:35 juhdanad Okay, I read the logs. So no C++ changes needed, just mod changes. 22:08 MinetestBot 02[git] 04nerzhul -> 03minetest/minetest: Gitlab CI: Fix Ubuntu 14.04/Debian 8 build by using GCC 6 toolchain 13bfacfc2 https://git.io/vHa4O (152017-06-04T22:06:01Z) 22:49 jcalve while you're at it the build fails in openbsd unless you replace -std=c++11 with c++98 in CMakeLists.txt 22:54 redblade7 VanessaE: you still here? 22:54 VanessaE barely. 22:54 redblade7 lol 22:54 redblade7 my third server, creative gardens, has a lot of your mods on it (moretrees, plantlife, biome_lib) and a lot of similar "plant" and "tree" type mods 22:55 redblade7 if i upgraded your other mods which don't rely on unifieddyes, will i have the problems i had with some coloredwood blocks on the other server 22:56 redblade7 i.e. do the problems only affect your mods that depend on unifieddyes 22:56 redblade7 or will there be missing trees and plants too 22:58 srifqi redblade7, can you just use minetest.register_alias and apply it to be an alias for MTG bed? 22:59 redblade7 then you lose all the colored beds though :( i'd rather just wait until vanessae fixes it and put "you can't sleep in colored beds anymore" at news 22:59 redblade7 but it's the coloredwood that had chaos 22:59 redblade7 i could fix it on my two servers as they are only a few months old 23:00 redblade7 but this is my one year+ old server 23:00 redblade7 with moretrees, plantlife, and stuff like that 23:00 redblade7 since 0.4.16 seems a lot faster, and creative gardens is slow 23:00 redblade7 i would like to upgrade as much as i can 23:01 redblade7 but until vanessae fixes the bugs with coloredwood, unifieddyes, and homedecor everything on my 1+ year old server will be destroyed 23:01 redblade7 i just want to know if the non-unifieddyes-requiring mods by vanessa have bugs 23:01 redblade7 the same bugs 23:02 redblade7 i cant update homedecor so the beds are good there 23:02 redblade7 as it depends on unifieddyes 23:05 redblade7 also it's good anyway since with the new dye system, if you could punch one but not the other it can be confusing for users to remember 23:06 ThomasMonroe redblade7 i think VE updated her stuff today 23:06 redblade7 ThomasMonroe: no i've been talking to her today, she says it's gonna be a long time before the bugs are fixed 23:07 redblade7 https://github.com/minetest-mods/coloredwood/issues/6 23:08 redblade7 https://github.com/minetest-mods/homedecor_modpack/issues/367 23:08 redblade7 https://github.com/minetest-mods/homedecor_modpack/issues/363 23:08 VanessaE no, I said it won't be a quick fix 23:08 VanessaE because I'm too busy 23:08 VanessaE "not quick" != "long time" 23:09 VanessaE and if someone else who has access to my repos can fix the bugs before I do, they're welcome to do so 23:09 VanessaE (and there are at least a few such people) 23:09 redblade7 oh 23:10 redblade7 i said before "short term vs long term" 23:10 redblade7 so i thought you meant "in the long term" 23:10 ThomasMonroe ah ok, sry VE 23:10 VanessaE ThomasMonroe: actually there was already one update today, yes - unified dyes got a quick fix for a rotation bug that happens only under 0.4.16 and builds made in the last...oh, month or so I guess 23:11 VanessaE redblade7: fixes for all the mods reported will probably be in the span of a few days to a couple weeks, depends on how I feel 23:11 redblade7 VanessaE: will that fix problems i was having with homedecor items placed in the wrong direction 23:11 VanessaE (haven't been too clear-headed lately) 23:11 redblade7 or is that something else 23:11 VanessaE redblade7: yes 23:11 redblade7 ok 23:11 VanessaE that bug was just fixed in unified dyes 23:12 redblade7 VanessaE: do plantlife, moretrees, and biome_lib have problems if i were to upgrade the creative gardens? 23:13 VanessaE I don't know 23:13 redblade7 or will that be mostly smooth 23:13 VanessaE probably okay 23:16 redblade7 you have any idea though why the writable books work but are only accessible to the admin account? 23:16 redblade7 or is that something you'll ahve to look at 23:17 redblade7 if it's something quick i can do, that would be great 23:18 VanessaE that's some other mod on your system doing that 23:18 VanessaE there's nothing in homedecor that should prevent normal users from being able to see a book in the creative inv 23:18 VanessaE and if it isn't the grey book with the yellow trim, it is NOT a homedecor book 23:19 VanessaE (that's how they look in the inv now, but that will change in the near future....maybe) 23:21 redblade7 it is the writable book 23:21 redblade7 it's now something you punch with dye 23:21 redblade7 but it's not in inventory and unknown item for everyone other than admin account 23:22 redblade7 they are still visible to users 23:22 redblade7 but only admin can craft or write in them 23:22 redblade7 or pick them up 23:22 redblade7 i'm guessing singleplayer would be the same thing 23:23 redblade7 but that other person on github was having the same problem, but probably didnt try singleplayer, or perhaps not using unifiedinventory 23:23 Devy Anyone wan to help me figure out a problem with some lua code specific to biomes? 23:23 redblade7 writable colored books are homedecor_modpack, right? 23:23 srifqi Just ask, Devy. 23:24 Devy Alright. I have a mod that registers a lot of underground biomes and to do this I have to clear the default biomes. After doing this, my biomes work but now the default ones are all meshed togther. Here's the code https://github.com/CoderForTheBetter/geominer/blob/master/mapgen.lua 23:25 Devy I've tried registring the decorations again but taht doesn't work. All the plants and trees spawn in the wrong biomes and blocks. 23:25 Devy that* 23:26 Devy I'm at a loss on what to do to fix this problem. The code above is pretty far down the file. 23:30 * srifqi is reading 23:44 blueph30nix so, we here for the turndown service or what? 23:45 srifqi What is turndown service? 23:45 blueph30nix you're supposed to say "turn down for what" 23:45 srifqi Devy, I haven't get the idea but I have to go now, sorry, will read again later. 23:45 Devy no porb! bye. 23:45 blueph30nix arrite 23:46 Devy you made him leave! 23:46 Devy jk 23:49 paramat hi 23:49 Devy Hey. Give me a sec to type this out. 23:52 Devy Here's the code: https://github.com/CoderForTheBetter/geominer/blob/master/mapgen.lua scroll down far. After clearing the default biomes and re-registering them and mine, all of the decorations (plants, trees) are spawning where ever they want. The decorations do not spawn in the correct biomes. I have tried re-registering them, but it does not work. For example, grass now spawns on sand, and trees spawn on hill sides. Any idea what could be going on here? 23:54 Devy I have tried every combination of registering things, but I can never fix the problem.
