00:36 Devy Hi!
00:37 kaiser hi Devy
00:38 Devy Do any of you know much about mapgen? more about voxel manipulation?
00:38 kaiser never played minetest, trying to install it
00:38 kaiser thinking about just buying another minecraft account
00:38 Devy Ah. Are you on linux or windows?
00:39 kaiser FreeBSD
00:39 Devy Alright. Just a sec.
00:39 kaiser simply cant compile it
00:39 kaiser complaining about opengl or something
00:40 kaiser its a problem actually with my graphics driver
00:40 Devy hmmm. It would be hard to figure out how to help without a log.
00:40 Devy oh.
00:40 kaiser ill give you the fatal line
00:40 Devy Great!
00:41 kaiser /usr/local/bin/minetest: Undefined symbol "stat"
00:41 kaiser i installed the binary instead and i get that error^
00:41 Devy hmm. ok. give me a couple secs. Let me try and figure it out.

00:42 kaiser cool, thanks
00:47 Devy Alright. I can't find anything specific that includes that error, but I would reccomend visiting this page  (if you haven't already) http://www.minetest.net/downloads/     press ctrl-f and type freebsd for more instructions on that page.
00:48 Devy You might be able to just use 0.4.15 by using the command "pkg install minetest minetest_game"

08:51 Out`Of`Control Hi
08:52 Out`Of`Control What could cause my server disappear from public server list?
08:58 red-001 Out`Of`Control, is it still online?
09:05 Out`Of`Control red-001: now it appear again, but it was gone, i wonder why
09:06 red-001 maybe you lost connection to the serverlist
09:06 red-001 the server pings the server list every few minutes iirc to let it know its still online
09:09 Out`Of`Control red-001: there are players on server so ping should be fine
09:10 red-001 thats not the issue
09:11 red-001 the connection between your server and the server list is the issue
09:11 red-001 you should see something about "servers.minetest.net" in the logs

13:03 Pannutti hello
13:03 Pannutti how do i uninstall a compiled minetest?
13:03 Pannutti (linux mint)
13:04 sfan5 how did you install it?
13:04 Pannutti as i said, compiled from sources
13:04 sfan5 so sudo make install?
13:04 Pannutti yes
13:05 sfan5 you need to find install_manifest.txt and then you can run xargs rm <install_manifest.txt
13:06 Pannutti what is xargs?
13:07 Calinou that'd require sudo in most cases, sfan5
13:07 Calinou unless it was installed to a non-system-wide location
13:20 octacian joined #minetest
13:24 Pannutti alright thanks
13:26 Out`Of`Control what is wrong with runinplace
13:26 Calinou Out`Of`Control: it's not a matter of run-in-place or not, actually
13:27 Calinou you can make a non-run-in-place build and install it in an arbitrary folder in your /home, using eg. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX="~/minetest-build"
13:27 Calinou "make install", in this case, can be used without sudo
13:27 Calinou run-in-place is nice for portable builds, but it's a mess for non-portable ones :)
13:28 Out`Of`Control i see

14:17 ThomasMonroe do players have metadata and can you add to that?
14:20 ThomasMonroe like, can you add a variable "experience" and how would you do that if you can?
14:23 calcul0n not sure, but i don't think players have metadata
14:23 mmuller ThomasMonroe: the only way that I found to do this was to store information, qualified by player name, in the world's filesystem.
14:24 calcul0n i generally create a table with player name as key and some table containing all the datas as value
14:24 calcul0n then store that in a file
14:25 ThomasMonroe hmm
14:25 mmuller calcul0n: that works, though if you have a lot of players that's going to be a very big file
14:25 ThomasMonroe ok so heres what im trying to do,
14:25 calcul0n yes, if you have a lot of datas you can also create one file per player
14:25 ThomasMonroe i want the players to gain experience based on what nodes they dig and place
14:28 ThomasMonroe and as they gain exp they can gain acess to better tools
14:29 ThomasMonroe how would i do something like that?
14:30 calcul0n hmm, that looks complicated :)
14:30 calcul0n you'll have to forbid some craft recipes, i don't see how to do that
14:31 calcul0n unless you get the tools by some other way
14:31 ThomasMonroe cant i override on_dig and check to see what tools is doing the digging?
14:33 calcul0n yes, you should use minetest.register_on_dignode for that i think
14:33 calcul0n then find the wielded item on the digger
14:35 ThomasMonroe ok

18:21 Guest666 Hello
18:22 kaeza greetings
18:22 Guest666 I've just compiled minetest from github, and i'm having low FPS and kind of lag. What can cause this?
18:22 Calinou Guest666: what graphics card/operating system are you using?
18:23 kaeza also, nice guest number nickserv
18:23 Guest666 AMD Radeon graphics on Linux Mint 18 with XFCE and compiz
18:23 Guest333 Illuminati confirmed.
18:28 Calinou Guest666: if you disable compositing in Compiz, does it perform better?
18:28 Calinou (not sure if you can still do that)
18:28 Calinou (last time I used Compiz was in ~2011, IIRC)
18:29 Hijiri does compiz still have wobbly windows?
18:29 Calinou not sure :P

20:39 bigfoot547 Yep.
20:40 bigfoot547 It might only happen once, but when it does...
20:41 red-001 well this is only a single game
20:41 red-001 sometimes it's hard to find good info on entier operating systems
20:42 bigfoot547 Yep
20:42 red-001 e.g. old versions of windows ce
20:42 Fixer windows ce 4.2
20:43 Fixer iirc
20:43 red-001 windows CE 4.2 .net core
20:43 Fixer PPC 2002 was slow as hell on my PDA
20:43 Fixer PPC 2003 had serious performance improvement
20:44 Fixer very noticeable
20:44 bigfoot547 I had to survive windows vista once...
20:44 Fixer music/videos etc
20:44 bigfoot547 Now I have windows on a vm.
20:44 Fixer since it was optimised for XScale 275mhz cpu iirc
20:44 red-001 huh I wonder are there linux drivers for activesync
20:45 Fixer had problems with active sync
20:45 red-001 oh thats pretty bad
20:45 Tmanyo joined #minetest
20:45 Fixer my pda image backup was made on XP one, and was not compatible with 7
20:45 Fixer since battery is dead
20:45 red-001 active sync is like your only life line when modding these things
20:45 Fixer each time i need to flash backup version of windows to it
20:46 Fixer had to use VM to reflash and to make new backup via Win7 new tool
20:46 Fixer also
20:46 Fixer I had problems with file transfer, it was insanely slow, like 200 kbyte/sec
20:46 Fixer update to windows PPC 2003 increased it significantly
20:47 Fixer from XX to this 200 or so
20:47 red-001 huh so is the system image getting corrupted a common problem?
20:47 Fixer red-001: not corrupted, bat dies and ROM or how it is called is resetted
20:48 red-001 I remeber having to track down the image for reflashing my system and finding a way to enter u-boot
20:48 Fixer it is not really reflash but something like going back to backup via special tool
20:48 red-001 It was freezing on the startup screen, before touch input, active sync etc, but after the boot loader
20:49 red-001 oh I think your issue was diffrent then
20:50 red-001 I only had boot loader access, and needed to reflash the rom image, not the flash disk
20:51 red-001 ehh not uboot, utool
20:51 red-001 but then you had a PDA and I was messing around with a GPS unit that happened to run windows ce
20:52 Fixer 32 MB RAM, 32 MB flash ROM
20:53 Fixer i had gps inserted into CF-card slot
20:53 Fixer was pretty amazing
20:53 Fixer that was before android era

22:08 Out`Of`Control only my server get flooded with hacked clients with "-Using Minehacker client. Built by Jeremiah Wibberding (two_steps)." message on each line?
22:09 red-001 yeah it's a shit hacking client
22:09 red-001 ban on sight
22:09 Out`Of`Control they add that text on each line
22:09 red-001 yes
22:09 red-001 I have no idea why
22:09 Out`Of`Control banned 100 of them today
22:09 Out`Of`Control maybe even more
22:09 red-001 but it's right there in the source code they released
22:09 red-001 Out`Of`Control, make a mod do it automatically?
22:09 Out`Of`Control anyway to block that client?
22:10 Fixer lolol
22:10 Freejack joined #minetest
22:10 Out`Of`Control there was a troll build cobble wall 50 nodes high around other players homes.
22:11 Out`Of`Control i banned them, now this hacked client join every 2 min
22:11 Out`Of`Control had to use iptables
22:11 PureTryOut[m] what exactly can such a client do more than the normal client can?
22:11 red-001 they just removed some basic limits
22:12 red-001 and apprently the player has a VPN or something
22:12 PureTryOut[m] what kind of limits?
22:12 red-001 fairly basic stuff
22:12 Out`Of`Control it was all from greec till now
22:13 red-001 it bypass privilege checks on the client
22:13 red-001 client-sided damage
22:13 red-001 and it fakes bypassing: kicks, bans, server-sided damage
22:14 PureTryOut[m] hmm
22:14 red-001 also if you have anticheat disabled it can bypass tool interact limits
22:14 red-001 their source code is a mess
22:16 Fixer thats why we need server side basic anticheat
22:16 red-001 I mean we do
22:16 red-001 it's just not great
22:18 PureTryOut[m] thats why it needs improving 😛
22:18 PureTryOut[m] meh, even non-hacked clients can cheat now with CSM. the first x-ray mod already exists
22:19 red-001 it's a pretty shitty x-ray mod tbh
22:19 Out`Of`Control red-001: not sure about limits, but they can fly for sure
22:19 red-001 I mean you have to read of co-ords
22:19 red-001 and then mine the blocks yourself
22:20 red-001 plus x-ray was already mostly possible if you disabled camera updates
22:20 red-001 you could see all the caves
22:21 red-001 and then there is the transparent texture exploit
22:21 Fixer or with custom texture pack iirc
22:21 Fixer on the other hand
22:21 Fixer why would you use hacks? game gets really boring that way
22:21 red-001 who knows
22:22 red-001 maybe somehow feeling better then other players, but I doubt shitty x-ray does that
22:23 red-001 kinda surprised we don't have more fly/fast/noclip hackers
22:23 red-001 they have to change literally a single line of code in a header file
22:24 bigfoot547 Yeah, it is pretty easy.

23:06 red-001 you could either use strict protocol checking or write a mod that checks the client has  at least your target protocol version
23:08 red-001 why do you want to block old clients?

23:14 Out`Of`Control red-001: tells me not tor
23:14 red-001 Out`Of`Control, are you able to compile a modified version of minetest?
23:15 Out`Of`Control red-001: why not
23:15 red-001 it change needed to be able to check the version string from lua is fairly simple
23:17 red-001 move https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/master/src/script/lua_api/l_server.cpp#L256 to before the "#ifndef NDEBUG"
23:18 red-001 so the whole function should look something like this https://pastebin.com/PLs5NaDK

23:20 Out`Of`Control and probably hes here
23:21 AntumDeluge I don't think I got an answer on this, but is there a way to disable damage from torches?
23:21 red-001 anyway if they are not using the version I acquired there is still a decent chance their commit id could be used to id them
23:22 red-001 I mean they didn't remove the annoying message about who made the client so I don't think they modified it
23:22 Out`Of`Control red-001: but i think its same person, always walk at one place and build wall
23:22 Out`Of`Control at same spot
23:24 red-001 well I can't really recommend anything other then try and ban them by checking thier version string and try and figure out a pattern for their ips so you can ban them all
23:24 Out`Of`Control thank you red-001
23:26 red-001 anyway there is this thing called sleep that apparently humans need to survive
23:26 red-001 night all
23:26 bigfoot547 bye

23:35 soupfly AntumDeluge, I think there is a clue in the torch.lua file. "flammable=1" is part of it's groups

23:35 soupfly AntumDeluge, removing it may remove it's ability to harm players?
