02:34 Sand_Minetest No...
02:34 Sand_Minetest I don't think so TRK

02:35 Sand_Minetest or any of the mods
02:44 mmmmhack hmm
02:48 mmmmhack it would really help to develop gameplay, I think
02:48 mmmmhack something that minetest needs, as has been discussed recently

09:22 agaran Hello JamesTait, Hello Krock
09:22 Krock hi agaran
09:22 Krock yusf, haven't seen any yet
09:23 JamesTait 👋  Krock, agaran
09:23 Krock ^ Unknown ASCII symbol at position 1
09:24 yusf Krock, then there's probably nothing new out there. Perhaps I can convince my coder friend to fix it up.
09:25 yusf agaran I think it still works but it needs polish.
09:26 Krock backwards compatibility in Minetest is very good so it shouldn't be too difficult to make a nice mod out of that horrible pasted code
09:28 agaran yusf: few times I wished to myself to have diving stuff so I would be able to build underwater without tricks like drying water first after encircling desired spot with dirt walls.. building then letting it flood again
09:34 yusf Later in the thread someone already fixes it up a bit in a zip file though it's much the same code inside.
09:35 yusf I think it would be cool if the mod didn't add yet another hud bar but instead integrated with the breath meter. It's still the same oxygen after all.
09:37 yusf agaran: I wonder what happens to the water if you use worldedit to place say a glass dome at the sea bottom…
09:37 agaran dunno, nver used worldedit
09:40 SylvieLorxu joined #minetest
09:44 yusf Some would consider it cheating i guess :)
09:46 agaran you build normal rooms 3 tiles tall or more?
09:50 Krock worldedit will work perfectly underwater because the water shouldn't get updated
09:50 Krock otherwise just make a dome and replace the water with air afterwards :3

13:30 Megaf Hi all,
13:30 Megaf and meh, I might leave github soon, migrating to my own self hosted git service, so much better nad faster
13:30 DonBatman Hi Megaf
13:30 lordawe hi
13:31 DonBatman Megaf You can't leave github
13:31 Megaf why not?
13:31 DonBatman They are planning on getting the mod store running again but it will use github
13:31 Krock Megaf, using Gogs?
13:31 Megaf nobody uses my mods anyway xP
13:32 Megaf Krock: heh, yep
13:32 Krock Megaf, I know that software cuz there are already so many tiny hosters around
13:32 Megaf My first experience with it was in 2014, running it on a Raspberry Pi, boy, was it fast
13:32 rubenwardy If you're talking about my mod database,
13:32 Megaf Gogs is just so f****** efficient man
13:32 rubenwardy then I can probably add support for more git etc services
13:33 Megaf DonBatman: and I'm not leaving GitHub, just migrating my own thins to my own self hosted Git
13:33 rubenwardy all I need is 1) the ability to get an id of the latest commit, 2) the ability to download a zip of the source at that commit
13:33 DonBatman I was talking about your db rubenwardy
13:33 rubenwardy My db works, it's just missing security features
13:33 Krock a central mod repository with link (submodules) would be amazing but that requires a git installation and SSL/TLS support
13:34 rubenwardy https://github.com/minetest/minetest/pull/4082
13:34 yusf DonBatman Alright, I'll try dabbling with the files. Thanks

13:36 DonBatman yusf if you need help let me know or give me a good enough reason and will seperate it into 2 mods
13:38 yusf DonBatman Thanks. My reason is that I don't want the dirtslopes but I like the flat stone paths.
13:39 DonBatman I can make the stones a seperate mod no problem
13:39 Megaf DonBatman: http://git.megaf.info/
13:39 Megaf (There's no email support)
13:39 Megaf It's just test
13:39 rubenwardy gogs should work
13:40 DonBatman Awesome Megaf
13:40 Megaf and it is limited to use at most 40% of the host's CPU, and it has only 128 MB of RAM!
13:40 Megaf and look how quick it is
13:40 Megaf currentelly the whole OS is using 35 MB of RAM
13:41 yusf DonBatman Wow, thanks! Will you put it on Github?

13:41 DonBatman yusf yup
13:41 yusf Megaf If you don't care about pretty URLs then Sandstorm.io also has Gogs support. :)
13:42 Megaf there's other one that I think is old, spider somthing
13:43 yusf DonBatman Lovely! Then I can add it as a submodule to my server modpack. 🙏
13:43 Megaf this -> https://notabug.org/
13:43 Calinou <Megaf> Gogs is just so f****** efficient man
13:43 Calinou Gogs is nice, but no good hosts for it :(
13:43 Calinou public ones that is
13:44 Calinou notabug is very out of date
13:44 Calinou like, 1.25 years old by now
13:44 Megaf wow
13:44 Calinou Gogs has wikis, releases, pull requests since t hen
13:44 Calinou then*
13:44 Megaf my host is 100% update
13:44 Megaf xP
13:44 Calinou also there's this, Scala-powered: https://github.com/gitbucket/gitbucket
13:44 Megaf but don't recommend using it
13:44 Calinou fancy UI :)
13:44 Calinou I couldn't get it to work though :( but I didn't get Gogs to work fully either
13:45 Calinou I wish I could use Docker on my VPS, but can't since it runs Ubuntu 14.04 due to OpenVZ kernel
13:45 Megaf Calinou: you use OpenVZ too?
13:45 Calinou (a recent kernel is required in order to use Docker)
13:45 Calinou yeah
13:45 Calinou OpenVZ is cheap for the provider, as it saves on resources
13:45 Calinou KVM is more expensive
13:45 Megaf I have this XEN Linode, and divided it in several OpenVZ containers
13:46 Megaf my server is a container in my VPS, that Gogs is other container
13:46 Megaf OpenVZ is extremelly efficient
13:46 Megaf as host I use CentOS 6
13:46 Megaf and the containers are Debian 7
13:46 Calinou I don't make VMs-in-VMs though :P
13:46 Calinou I find server CPUs slow enough
13:47 Megaf well, OpenVZ has almost no overhead
13:47 Megaf and I like it to distribute my services, like, one container for web servers, other for HHVM, other for MySQL, other for Minetest, other for Gogs, and so on
13:48 yusf everamzah Are you considering ender/teleport/shared books, so that players may have the same information in multiple places?
13:49 DonBatman yusf https://github.com/DonBatman/mystonepaths
13:49 DonBatman I did not do aliases yet but will soon
13:50 yusf DonBatman Thank you very much! I have only one type of path right now (I think it's from xDecor). This'll be perfect1
13:50 Calinou I thought of making a mod that ports Doom monsters to Minetest using Freedoom sprites
13:50 Calinou it sounds mostly feasible
13:50 Calinou however Minetest's 2.5D rendering features aren't good enough for that :/
13:50 Calinou IIRC you can only have 6 directions, and I need 8
13:51 Megaf I didn't even know MT could render 2.5D
13:51 Calinou or I could use extruded upright sprites
13:51 Calinou Megaf: dungeon masters in 0.3.1 were 2.5D
13:51 Megaf what happened to mobs, and rats on recent versions of Minetest?
13:52 Krock gone!
13:52 Calinou rats and oerkkis were just upright sprites
13:52 Calinou ie. sprites that always were aligned to the Y axis
13:53 Megaf is there any good mobs mod? I mean, one that actually works without using lots of resources and doesnt slow that server down nor crashes it?

14:09 agaran I guess unique visitors tracking..
14:10 Krock they can do that with PHP easily
14:10 rubenwardy Ironic how, afaik, the minetest.net website doesn't work without js
14:10 Krock lol
14:10 rubenwardy the navigation is/was js based
14:10 agaran rubenwardy: indeed
14:10 agaran Krock: well some people can think only in clicking in node.js..
14:11 rubenwardy ?
14:11 agaran rubenwardy: I meet people working on websites who consider no-js page as no page..
14:12 agaran and I still sometimes use lynx as browser.. textmode.. no js..

14:12 rubenwardy oh, wow
14:13 agaran and need or not they take biggest fanciest js framework you can wield..
14:13 agaran see my point?
14:13 agaran sorry for phrasing, still sick and perhaps not most clearly expressing myself
14:13 rubenwardy my philosophy is that for the sake of SEO and usability, pages should use the least js possible
14:13 rubenwardy my website (rubenwardy.com) works in lynx
14:14 agaran yep.. but some people have own ideas
14:14 rubenwardy but it still uses JS for more advanced effects
14:15 rubenwardy note I'm only talking about client side, I like node.js
14:15 agaran :) I am not blaming you, you pick tools that do or ease your task
14:16 agaran so we have diamond pick and mese pick not just wodden ones
14:16 rubenwardy there are exceptions, physics.rubenwardy.com shouldn't have to work without js as its content requires js
14:16 agaran neat :)
14:17 agaran doppler effect, some people forget that it happens for -any- wave :)
14:18 Calinou <Krock> Fixer, I understand the sites that ask for disabling adblock but .. javascript? what the hell?
14:18 Calinou I'd say the inverse
14:18 Calinou JS has become a necessity in web browsing for a reason
14:18 Calinou ads aren't a necessity in web browsing :P
14:18 Fixer you can live without js
14:19 Fixer js bloats a lot
14:19 rubenwardy a lot of applications require it
14:19 rubenwardy adverts bloat a lot
14:19 rubenwardy way more than js
14:19 Fixer damn twitter is so slow on core i3, Karl...
14:19 Fixer ads blocked everywhere anyway
14:21 Fixer rubenwardy: i've seen site with nothing but text without fancy anything, and yet it shows blank page without js, this is bullshit
14:21 rubenwardy true
14:22 rubenwardy hence my point about using js only when it's needed
14:22 Calinou even good menus need JS :| unless you're in for big hacks like using checkboxes
14:22 agaran anyone know if there is nice solution to make ladder or like work under water without air around them?
14:22 rubenwardy social media is a good case for it - it makes instant messaging
14:22 rubenwardy and yes, js
14:22 rubenwardy *and yes, js is good for menu
14:23 agaran rubenwardy: thats why for 'social media' I use irc..

14:34 agaran any mode aside of homedecor has nice railings that aren't placed on center of node?
14:34 rubenwardy but I admit that full page images that require you to scroll way too much is also unusable
14:34 Fixer rubenwardy: it is more compact
14:34 Fixer rubenwardy: you can see a lot more news for example, without scrolling like an idiot
14:36 rubenwardy I'm not sure what you mean
14:36 rubenwardy A list of article title is usable
14:37 rubenwardy Text on every pixel with lots of long long paragraphs even bigger than this one, all ending with to find out more, [click here] is not usable
14:38 Fixer rubenwardy: main page has list of news/articles, say in 2004 particular site had 32 useful links right away (news had no pointless images btw), right now it shows at most 6-7 useful links with huge text and a bit more description

18:17 DonBatman agaran add replacements =
18:18 agaran Hmm, I thought it is for components not for results..
18:18 agaran so permits permutations on recipe using few different components in place of one/few of them

18:19 agaran so I can use torch in place of stick?
18:19 DonBatman Krock did I write that right?
18:20 DonBatman That would take torch away and replace it with a stick
18:21 agaran I need to experiment with that but I guess it is not exactly solution for this problem, oh well, seems most places use crafting machines for such corner cases so maybe I'll just try make own especially for unmounting
18:22 DonBatman Would be nice to have a reverse craft machine

18:24 DonBatman If I wasn't in the middle of a few things I would make the reverse craft machine
18:24 DonBatman Would be simple I think. Just use get_craft_recipe()
18:25 DonBatman then add the items to slots
18:30 Krock DonBatman, no, it needs another bracket around the items
18:30 Krock like this: replacements = {{"bucket:bucket_lava", "bucket:bucket_empty"}},
18:31 Void7 joined #minetest
18:32 Krock a reverse craft machine has its problems when there are multiple recipes
18:32 Krock and then such with gruops
18:32 Krock *groups
18:33 agaran I need it only for few certain cases of my own recipes, not going to make it generic.. :)
18:33 DonBatman Makes sense Krock
18:34 Krock DonBatman, you're not the first who thought about this ;)
18:35 DonBatman Didn't expect I to be
18:35 DonBatman Not sure if there are many original thoughts left
18:35 Krock until there comes someone with a stupid simple idea and we all wonder why we haven't had this idea before
18:36 DonBatman ya

20:30 Wuzzy Hi, what are the system requirements of Minetest (besides OS)?
20:31 Calinou Wuzzy: I'd say 2 GB of RAM, a recent Intel IGP or recent low-end graphics card, or older mid-end graphics card.
20:31 Calinou dual core CPU strongly recommended, too
20:31 Calinou that is for the client
20:32 Wuzzy any concrete graphics card requirements? like pixelshader version X or OpenGL version Y?
20:32 Void7 joined #minetest
20:33 Calinou OpenGL 1.x should continue to work
20:33 Calinou but do yourself a favor, try to get something OpenGL 2.1-compliant
20:34 Calinou (else you won't be able to use shaders anyway)

20:50 Krock as long you're above OpenGL 1.2 there shouldn't be a problem

22:33 Hijiri nolsen: I found out you can keep an entire technic network running as long as the switching station is running
22:33 Hijiri so it may be possible to construct your meganetwork, you just need the distribution backbone's switching station to be loaded
