I have downloaded and installed several mods into the mods folder. They're complaining about duplicates of the same library, and was wondering if these would probably be the same library or different libraries that would stack. 00:01 sweBers For instance, I'm getting ERROR[main]: ModError: ModError: Unresolved name conflicts for mods "plants_lib". 00:02 Jordach multiple mods with the same name? 00:02 Exio4 you have to install plants_lib (a mod that will do nothing but be used as dep of the other mods) 00:02 Exio4 if it is *that* error 00:02 sweBers Oh 00:02 sweBers yeah 00:02 sweBers wait 00:02 Jordach are you also sure you enabled the mod for that world? 00:03 Jordach installing it doesn't mean it's used on *those* worlds 00:03 sweBers I've enabled all of them 00:03 sweBers I see now 00:03 sweBers I'm seeing collisions between the mods folder and the \games\minetest_game\mods folders 00:04 sweBers and also between the following folders 00:04 sweBers 18:34:58: ERROR[main]: WARNING: Mod name conflict detected: "plants_lib" 00:04 sweBers 18:34:58: ERROR[main]: Will not load: C:\Users\Jesse\Documents\minetest-0.4.9\bin\..\mods\jkmod\plants_lib 00:04 sweBers 18:34:58: ERROR[main]: Will not load: C:\Users\Jesse\Documents\minetest-0.4.9\bin\..\mods\plantlife_master\plants_lib 00:05 sweBers Is it possible that jkmod and plantlife_master are using the same library, or can I only use one? 00:06 Exio4 i'd delete one of them ;P 00:08 sweBers I'm probably just being a glutton, then. I guess they're probably using similar libraries, if not the same. 00:08 Jordach i only know of one plants_lib 00:08 Jordach remove the one from jkmod 00:09 Jordach and see if it runs, if else, remove the plantlife_master one 00:09 Jordach usually trial and error 00:09 sweBers Yeah, I was overcomplicating it 00:09 Jordach !tell EvergreenTree https://soundcloud.com/karthy/darren-styles-screwface-2?in=karthy/sets/darren-styles-screwface 00:09 MinetestBot Jordach: yeah, sure, whatever 00:09 * Jordach pats MinetestBot 00:12 sweBers Ah, they're the same library, but Plantlife master is the newest 00:18 VanessaE plantlife is the one that supplies it 00:18 VanessaE as in, that's the official repository for it. 00:18 VanessaE whatever jkmod is, don't use the one that comes with it :) 00:19 VanessaE (unless there are changes he hasn't told me about) 00:20 sweBers Thank you very much, it is working well 00:20 * sweBers proceeds to lurk 00:21 Exio4 hell, superhexagon is THE hell 01:03 The_Beast Hey 01:04 The_Beast VanesssaE OR ShadowZone there 01:04 The_Beast ShadowNinja you there 01:05 The_Beast Who is here any one? 01:05 smoke_fumus awhile ago i manipulated this screenshot https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9288177/mc-newblocks/2012-06-05_14.35.32.png into this https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9288177/mc-newblocks/hm.PNG and though wouldn't it be interesting to see whole game like this. But then the computer lag (actual lag, not low FPS) sets in and I have to exit right away or risk computer lockup. 05:03 asl run `top` along side with minetest, it should show minetest using up more and more memory until it start to lag then lockup 05:04 asl it's a memory leak problem i been dealing with too, just need to restart minetest every few mins 05:04 asl but you got less than a gb of ram iirc, so it happen sooner on yours 05:13 Vazon Piggybear what all are is running while you run Minetest? 05:16 kaeza greetings 05:23 Eater4 greetings 05:24 * VanessaE randomly pokes kaeza :) 05:24 VanessaE greetz 05:24 kaeza ow 05:25 kaeza VanessaE, https://gist.github.com/kaeza/9cb5a3fcb85e9366e6eb 05:26 kaeza (for anyone else interested too, of course) 05:29 jin_xi so i wonder about the particles code... yesterday i tried using an irrlicht particle source in mt 05:29 jin_xi looks kinda very doable 05:29 VanessaE kaeza: what's this? 05:30 jin_xi also the present particles in mt have some very wtf code 05:30 VanessaE jin_xi: oh? 05:32 kaeza VanessaE, scan the list of registered users and list who is administrator (server priv), or "moderator" (ban, kick, privs, or basic_privs privs) 05:32 jin_xi http://youtu.be/30cGjxeRWao video here, this is literally just copypaste some irrlicht example into particles.cpp for now... 05:32 kaeza (also with support for irc mod) 05:33 jin_xi anyways, gotta go 05:34 kaeza jin_xi, looks nice 05:42 VanessaE kaeza: interesting 05:43 VanessaE stick that in with your "misc" mods 06:04 Vazon Hi LazyJ 06:09 Piggybear87 OK, using top (on Vazon's server, thank you again BTW), I found out that Walking uses more CPU than flying. My flying peaked at 140% CPU and 74% RAM, but I didn't lag. Walking, I used about the same peak CPU and no more RAM at all. The difference between walking and flying is average. Flying ~50% Walking ~80%. I didn't start to lag out until my mouse freaked out and spun me around really fast and I hanged for a bit. BUT it used no more CPU or RAM. 06:09 Piggybear87 .. I don't know what the hell is wrond with this thing... 06:10 LazyJ Howdy, Vazon ;) 06:11 Piggybear87 And asl, The only things I have open while playing is Terminal (required), and HexChat. This time I had 2 Terminals open to use top. 06:12 Piggybear87 Sorry asl, I thought you said that, it was Vazon. 06:14 Piggybear87 So... TL;DR I never max out my RAM usage, but go over 100% of CPU. Lagging out happens only when mouse freaks out (I cannot replicate it otherwise). 06:15 Piggybear87 Hopefully someone smart sees this and give me some input on how to not lag out. 06:15 Piggybear87 Good night all. 06:22 Zeno` Hi all. Maybe I should transition to v7 mg instead and focus my efforts there 08:19 Zeno` yeah... that's decided. Thanks hehe :) 08:19 Zeno` did you happen to notice that 10+1=11 works in binary as well as decimal? 08:19 TenPlus1 :P 08:20 Calinou added ability to heal sheeps using wheat 08:21 TenPlus1 nice, how many wheat do you feed them to bring back wool ? 08:21 Calinou 8 to regrow wool. one wheat gives 3 HP (they have 15 when spawning) 08:21 VanessaE oops. 08:21 VanessaE TenPlus1: yeah I'm here 08:22 VanessaE sorta. 08:22 TenPlus1 lol, just woke up ? 08:22 Calinou there's overheal prevention 08:22 TenPlus1 could maybe use the same code with cows to regenerate milk production... 08:25 Calinou “Mobs now float in water, most mobs don't take damage in water now, added the ability to heal sheeps using wheat (3 HP per wheat), made sheeps more resistant to punching.” 08:26 TenPlus1 do they run away if you punch them ? 08:26 Calinou no 08:28 TenPlus1 would be a nice feature for peaceful mobs to up and run in opposite direction of attacker 08:32 TenPlus1 also maybe if a harmful mod is walking about and you hit them, they instantly go into attack mode 08:37 TenPlus1 hrm, the chicken mob looks funny... the texture skin doesnt sit right on it anymore ?!?! 08:39 OldCoder Would anybody like to test a nice new Windows client in a while? Just adding a large cache file or something? 15:39 OldCoder A large cache directory 15:39 OldCoder I've done this before 15:39 OldCoder I'm actually surprised it isn't standard 15:39 Piggybear87 Probably because of the large download. 15:40 OldCoder Tradeoff 15:40 OldCoder One download fast 15:40 OldCoder vs. slow waits repeatedly 15:40 OldCoder until several worlds are visited 15:40 spillz Hi all. That shaders video that Jordach posted earlier is pretty cool. but to be able to draw those shadows in real time you have to have all of the relevant blocks in memory, which MT doesn't do a great job at atm. (More need for client side caching) 15:40 Hirato the matroska headers don't seen to care at all for codecs 15:41 realtinymonster Hirato: what makes you say that? 15:41 Piggybear87 I would rather an initial large (read:slow) download. 15:41 Hirato because I just looked through them all 15:41 realtinymonster ah 15:42 Hirato at least those Arch provides 15:45 Hirato I find it funny how opus gained transaction and other things like apng just languished 15:45 Hirato to this day, only firefox does apng 15:47 celeron55 i don't understand why nobody is using mng, the original animated version of png and instead made a crappy version based on png 15:48 celeron55 and is there even a third one? 15:48 OldCoder GIF continues to rule :P 15:48 Hirato apng is basically gif; mng is far more complex 15:48 celeron55 but mng is complex for a reason 15:48 celeron55 gif is very limited 15:48 Hirato but at least mng actually gained traction and has basic tools 15:49 celeron55 but now the interwebs is moving towards webm 15:49 OldCoder Um; for inline little animations? 15:49 celeron55 which is actually gaining a huge amount of support fast 15:49 Hirato web developers are weird 15:50 realtinymonster yeah 15:50 * realtinymonster has no clue what the problem with apng is 15:50 celeron55 web browsers are huge programs, it's not like they don't have the resources to implement something like mng anyway 15:50 celeron55 (that's why more complexity is a stupid argument) 15:50 Hirato web browsers; the only operating more complete than emacs 15:50 Hirato **operating system 15:51 Jordach Hirato, you can argue Blender can be used as an operating sysmte 15:51 Jordach it has a text editor, picture viewer, MP3 playback 15:52 Jordach but no web-browsing 15:52 celeron55 you could just script a web browser in it if it has socket support 15:53 Hirato but then we'll crown the king of worst browser interfaces before HTML5 is fully adopted :p 15:56 OldCoder It is ridiculously difficult to port Minetest to a new Windows cross-compile environment 15:59 m5 Hello everyperson! 16:00 Jordach https://github.com/Jordach/jdukebox 16:00 Jordach got a modified BFD version running in MT+# 16:00 Jordach and fixed a nasty bug where two players using the same disc had a variable collision 16:02 Jordach https://cdn.mediacru.sh/EVa40ttcSkQV.png (that should update; unless my terminal states otherwise) 16:03 realtinymonster anyone know what kind of file this is? https://www.dropbox.com/s/k7kuhbrigen1kpm/Font.bin 16:04 realtinymonster hi m5 16:07 m5 Binary file realtinymonster 16:08 OldCoder Piggybear87, media blinks in 5 seconds 16:08 Piggybear87 Nice. 16:08 realtinymonster m5, no way, how do I edit? 16:10 m5 realtinymonster, I have absolutely no idea 16:10 Piggybear87 !google how do I edit a .bin 16:10 Piggybear87 ? It's for Windows? 16:39 jin_xi jeija is not around much anymore 16:39 OldCoder Piggybear87, Ah; you are Lubuntu :-( I will need to build for that 16:39 OldCoder Piggybear87, I have tried and tried to make the game fast for you 16:39 celeron55 then the answer probably is: because random 16:40 OldCoder Piggybear87, I shall not give up but almost out of time for today; I've been on this in a sense for days 16:40 sfan5 * Disables shaders - Fixes visual glitches 16:40 OldCoder sfan5, Yes 16:40 OldCoder Red screen 16:40 Piggybear87 I know, and I appreciate that, I really do. I blame my crappy machine. 16:40 OldCoder MT doesn't work well with Irrlicht 1.8 16:40 OldCoder Under Windows 16:40 sfan5 depends whether your graphics cards supports OpenGL well enough 16:40 OldCoder But for about 15% of players; red screen 16:40 BlockMen OldCoder, not true 16:40 sfan5 if your graphics card is good enough enabling shaders speeds things up 16:41 sfan5 MT doesn't work well with Irrlicht 1.8 16:41 Calinou and then we have the age old problem of windows development 16:41 OldCoder BlockMen, s/not true/entirely true/ 16:41 Calinou VirtualBox? 16:41 sfan5 it doesn't? 16:41 OldCoder It is a matter of definition 16:41 OldCoder This is based on reports 16:41 OldCoder from users 16:41 celeron55 there should be automatic detection of whether shaders work or not and they should get automatically disabled if so; that still isn't implemented 16:41 Jordach i once managed to compile minetest-classic 16:41 OldCoder ^^ 16:41 OldCoder Good idea 16:41 Calinou does anyone know why particles were implemented the way they are? 16:41 Calinou what's wrong with them? 16:41 Calinou (in before you're not understanding design decisions…) 16:41 Calinou 18<27OldCoder> But for about 15% of players; red screen 16:41 Calinou is that due to old graphics card? 16:42 sfan5 Calinou: particles are slow, we should use irrlichts particle system 16:42 Calinou try with a recent graphics card, supporting OpenGL 3.0 at least (not hard to find today) 16:42 Piggybear87 I don 16:42 OldCoder I don't know Calinou but it doesn't matter; 15% is too high 16:42 Calinou maybe 15% of people use old Intel IGPs on Windows 16:42 OldCoder Quite possible 16:42 celeron55 Calinou: the issue with particles is that they are very heavy 16:42 Piggybear87 t have a red screen on my machine, but my GF does. He machine is newer. 16:42 Calinou lots of people attempt playing the game on netbooks, thinking it's a lightweight game 16:42 BlockMen OldCoder, Irrlicht works fine with windows in general. but when ppl use hardware from the late 90s there can be problems 16:42 OldCoder Late 90s? 16:42 Calinou BlockMen, not necessarily from the late 90s. 16:42 OldCoder I suspect the issue runs newer than that 16:43 OldCoder I have too many reports to the contrary 16:43 celeron55 i'd guess any slightly old laptop with intel graphics can have problems especially on windows 16:43 * BlockMen likes to exaggerate 16:43 celeron55 because outdated drivers and stuff 16:43 Calinou Intel drivers on Windows are passable 16:44 * Calinou maybe used a French word in English 16:44 Calinou it means, “not that good” 16:45 celeron55 a known thing is though that some people play MT on computers that are able to run it with minimum settings at like 10fps 16:45 celeron55 i guess they have never known what money is or something 16:45 OldCoder preloaded visuals should be off by default 16:45 BlockMen 10fps != play 16:45 * realtinymonster likes this game 16:46 realtinymonster brb 16:46 Calinou celeron55, you don't need expensive PC to play Minetest 16:46 Calinou either something old and high end, or something new and low end 16:46 Calinou but not old and low end :) 16:47 celeron55 it depends on what you consider old or low end 16:47 LazyJ I'm trying to compile Minetest with leveldb enabled on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. libleveldb-dev and libsnappy1/dev are installed but each time I get errors like these: 16:47 Calinou BlockMen, I would avoid exaggerating, it distorts the situation 16:47 LazyJ *this: 16:47 LazyJ (.text+0x681): undefined reference to `snappy::MaxCompressedLength(unsigned long)' 16:47 Piggybear87 OldCoder, I don't know if I told you or not, but I can get on 30011 pretty quickly, but I get stuck in 1-4 chunks and nothing else will load. I KNOW that's not my machine. I can get on 30012 simi-quickly and everything loads fine and I get barely any lag. It HAS to be a broken LandRush_game or something. 16:47 LazyJ /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.6/../../../../lib/libleveldb.a(table_builder.o): In function `leveldb::TableBuilder::WriteBlock(leveldb::BlockBuilder*, leveldb::BlockHandle*)': 16:47 LazyJ (.text+0x681): undefined reference to `snappy::MaxCompressedLength(unsigned long)' 16:47 Calinou it works for me on Xubuntu 14.04, LazyJ, but I don't use LevelDB because it feels slower here. 16:47 OldCoder 1-4 chunks? Can you explain 16:47 BlockMen Calinou, depends the topic 16:48 celeron55 LazyJ: pastebin the full output 16:48 sfan5 LazyJ: disable compression in leveldb or link with -lsnappy 16:48 LazyJ Ok, firing up the browser... 16:48 BlockMen if you say late 90s or early 00s makes no big difference in that topic 16:48 celeron55 sfan5 is probably correct 16:48 LazyJ How do I disable compression? 16:48 LazyJ Isn't leveldb 16:48 celeron55 a cmake command line for linking with -lsnappy would be useful though 16:48 LazyJ Ahk.. 16:48 Piggybear87 Only one to four chunks load for me. I cannot go further than that, and I cannot place/remove items to and from chests. asl said I turn into an unknow player also. 16:49 LazyJ Isnt' the compression the big selling point on leveldb? 16:49 Piggybear87 unknown* 16:49 Calinou BlockMen, most netbooks are late 2000s 16:50 BlockMen i was not talking about netbooks 16:50 Piggybear87 And OldCoder, it has only done that since the switch to LevelDB I believe. 16:50 celeron55 nobody uses 90's computers anymore; they can't run even basic linux 16:50 celeron55 no matter how high end they are 16:50 OldCoder Piggybear87, I am willing to try more things. There is no way to tell. I am out of time for this presently. Explain "chunks" issue if you can. 16:51 sfan5 celeron55: if they are i486 they can still run linux 16:51 BlockMen "they can't run even basic linux"...wut 16:51 celeron55 sfan5: basic linux from a user's perspective is a thing like xubuntu 16:51 celeron55 with desktop 16:52 Piggybear87 Chunks are 16x16x16 (i believe) areas in the game. 16:52 sfan5 then use gentoo 16:52 sfan5 will take ages... but work 16:52 celeron55 bleh, do you intentionally not want to understand? 16:52 celeron55 whatever then, i won't try 16:52 OldCoder Piggybear87, explain the error more precisely 16:52 LazyJ Ok, here's the pastebin celeron55 requested: http://pastebin.com/MsQaAsib 16:52 OldCoder http://minetest.org/minetest-140610b.zip 16:52 OldCoder ^ FAST CLIENT 16:52 OldCoder Come 'n get it 16:53 OldCoder Um; it's 70MB 16:53 OldCoder :-) 16:53 celeron55 LazyJ: the solution remains exactly what sfan5 said 16:53 OldCoder Vazon, ^ 16:53 sfan5 celeron55: I know what you mean, but you could technically still run xfce on it 16:53 Piggybear87 Hmm, I think the only way will be with a screenshot. I will have that in a few minutes. Be right back. 16:53 sfan5 OldCoder: maybe use 7z next time 16:53 Vazon kk 16:53 OldCoder sfan5, won't help much 16:53 sfan5 OldCoder: many people have bad internet connections 16:53 sfan5 it helps a bit 16:53 OldCoder sfan5, very well 16:54 OldCoder But this will be better than using those same bad connections to get media during the game 16:54 BlockMen sfan5, for windows-users always zip :P 16:54 LazyJ Great. So of the two options, disabling compression or linking to snappy, which is better for Minetest? 16:54 Jordach snappy 16:54 sfan5 LazyJ: disabling compression, mapblocks are already compresses 16:54 sfan5 compressed* 16:55 Vazon OldCoder for Windows, or linux? 16:55 LazyJ And how do I disable the compression? 16:55 sfan5 LazyJ: recompile leveldb, easier thing is ofc just linking to libsnappy 16:55 sfan5 Vazon: windows 16:55 Vazon mhmm ok i will brb im on my comp with linux 16:55 LazyJ Ok, so how would I accomplish the libsnappy option? 16:56 OldCoder Vazon, that is a Windows-32 client 16:56 OldCoder After it is debugged I will try a 64-bit version 16:56 OldCoder BTW Vazon see if sound works 16:56 Piggybear87 OF COURSE! That's my life... It wont do it again. It's loading fine for me now... 16:56 OldCoder Which Forum would I announce new clients in? 16:57 OldCoder Piggybear87, relax; this is expected 16:57 Jordach OldCoder, General Discussion 16:57 OldCoder Jordach, t y 16:57 Jordach (i'll sticky the topic later) 16:57 Vazon_ OldCoder can i have the link please 16:57 OldCoder It is above but: http://minetest.org/minetest-140610b.zip 16:57 Piggybear87 I know, but thing will never get fixed if I can't replicate the problem... 16:57 OldCoder Jordach, would I call the thread something like "OldCoder Builds" ? 16:58 Jordach Windows Builds( 16:58 Jordach yeah 16:58 OldCoder Piggybear87, if it is not on the server side this will not work 16:58 Jordach OldCoder, i can always edit the topic title for clarity 16:58 OldCoder Jordach, no; I will build for Linux too? 16:58 Jordach OldCoder, ah 16:58 Jordach then builds is fine 16:58 OldCoder Very well 16:58 OldCoder I shall see how testing goes, make fixes, and create a thread at some point 16:59 * Jordach once ran Arch in a VM 16:59 Vazon_ OldCoder could you have made the file any bigger :3 16:59 Piggybear87 It will work, yes, IF I had Windows... 16:59 OldCoder Jordach, I also wish a thread where I comment on my worlds. The worlds will have their own threads at the owner level. But I will have an overall thread. General discussion too? 16:59 OldCoder Vazon, probably not :P 16:59 Jordach OldCoder, there's a maps secrtion 16:59 Vazon_ haha 16:59 Jordach section* 16:59 Jordach (bleh - can't type) 16:59 OldCoder Jordach, Not about maps. It will be general server level issues. 17:00 OldCoder Rather, there are already maps threads for the worlds 17:00 Jordach OldCoder, under servers then 17:00 OldCoder I may announce new worlds or shutdowns in my thread 17:00 OldCoder Servers have a section? 17:00 OldCoder Ah; yes 17:00 OldCoder very well t y 17:00 Jordach OldCoder, use your own server topic for that, not in a Hoster's FAQ 17:00 OldCoder I don't even know what a Hoster's FAQ is 17:01 Jordach [17:59:50] Jordach, Not about maps. It will be general server level issues. 17:01 Jordach ^ i assumed from that 17:01 OldCoder Yes? 17:01 * OldCoder does not follow; but never mind 17:01 OldCoder I will try a thread at some point. It can always be moved. 17:01 OldCoder Does anybody besides Vazon wish to try the Fast(sm) Client? 17:02 Calinou nein 17:02 Vazon_ OldCoder alot of people use Linux here lol 17:02 Jordach 9 17:02 OldCoder Heh 17:02 OldCoder And yet people complain about Windows clients 17:02 OldCoder And speed; there need to be more clients with the changes 17:03 Jordach what's wrong with sfan5's clients 17:03 Jordach nothing 17:03 OldCoder Does he include preloaded cache? 17:03 OldCoder And "wrong" is the wrong word 17:03 Jordach however, my client is like 2 months old 17:03 OldCoder The slow load times are a significant factor, I feel 17:03 OldCoder The game can't continue to be 5 to 20 minutes just to get in 17:03 OldCoder It will never surpass MC in this case 17:04 Vazon_ OldCoder i had someone wait 40 min to join mine :| 17:04 OldCoder Were they pleased at the delay? 17:05 OldCoder And there is simply no reason to preload visuals at runtime; or I am not clear about that 17:05 Jordach OldCoder, on my connection, it takes ~7 minutes to get into VanessaE's largest content sevrer 17:05 OldCoder Jordach, and others wait up to 40 minutes for other worlds 17:06 OldCoder Even 5 minutes is too long. A game is supposed to just start. 17:06 Piggybear87 My first time getting in to Vazon's server, it took me ~15 minutes. Enough time to make and eat a sandwich... 17:06 Jordach i can do with a sandvich right now 17:07 Piggybear87 A pastrami and a beer! Sounds like lunch to me! 17:07 OldCoder Other games are 100MB+ There is no reason MT can't have a reasonable size as a tradeoff for speed. Though protocol changes might be better. 17:07 Piggybear87 +1^ 17:08 Piggybear87 I would rather download a 200Mb file to have a fast load time and less lag than the other way around. 17:09 sfan5 OldCoder: I could make a preloaded cache available as an additional package 17:09 Vazon_ Piggy at least you had time to eat :3 17:09 OldCoder Using your own script; yes 17:09 OldCoder It seems to work fine for this purpose 17:09 Piggybear87 Lol, yeah. 17:09 sfan5 * Jordach once ran Arch in a VM 17:09 sfan5 the last time I did that I broke it by not reading the news 17:10 Jordach sfan5, i managed to actually get it setup and ready for use 17:10 OldCoder sfan5, I simply ran your script on my entire MT tree. No need to be complicated. Picked up all the media everywhere. 17:10 Vazon_ Have you been able to log into Landrush Piggybear? 17:10 Jordach just needed to install XFCE 17:10 OldCoder sfan5, s/ran your script/did a find/ 17:10 Piggybear87 Yeah, I was just on. 17:10 Vazon_ Ok, good. 17:10 sfan5 I was about to tell you that you only need the hash files (not the symlinks)... 17:10 OldCoder sfan5, My version of your script is a good deal shorter 17:10 OldCoder sfan5, I know 17:10 sfan5 what did you change? 17:10 OldCoder sfan5, need the symlinks for the server-side copy not the cache 17:10 Piggybear87 My problem wont replicat when I try to show someone... :/ 17:10 OldCoder sfan5, I will provide you with a copy 17:11 OldCoder sfan5, I essentially dropped all the redundant code and did a single find on the entire tree 17:11 kaeza https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?p=144505#p144505 17:12 kaeza https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?p=144505#p144505 17:12 OldCoder sfan5, BTW I'm still not clear on why clients do POST to index.mth ? 17:12 kaeza because reading is for noobs 17:12 Piggybear87 HOLY HELL! I hope that's not accurate... 17:12 Vazon_ what piggy? 17:13 Piggybear87 3 hours to download his client... 17:13 Vazon_ xD OldCoders?? No just about 2-5 min but extracting is a different story -.- 17:14 Calinou Jordach, Xfce, not XFCE 17:14 sfan5 OldCoder: the server is supposed to be able to automatically generate index.mth, that can be done using GET too but.... 17:14 OldCoder So a POST triggers a build? 17:14 sfan5 someone thought otherwise 17:14 OldCoder Hm 17:14 OldCoder Wait; it is an httpd server 17:14 sfan5 did the post -> get remap thing I gave you work? 17:14 OldCoder How would an httpd server do this? 17:14 sfan5 php? 17:15 nman3600 OldCoder why does mark twain server say hosted by you? 17:15 OldCoder sfan5, ah; you mean, people are supposed to add the code to build index to nginx etc. themselves?? And I never added it 17:15 OldCoder nman3600, because it is 17:15 Piggybear87 OK, down to an hour, let's hope it drops more... Lol. 17:15 nman3600 okay.. does mark still add the mods and that? 17:15 Piggybear87 Brb. 17:15 OldCoder nman3600, it is a joint effort 17:15 OldCoder sfan5, that was in PM wasn't it? 17:16 sfan5 OldCoder: not to nginx itself but a CGI script; yes it was in a PM 17:16 OldCoder sfan5, has anybody ever actually done the CGI script? And I don't need to if I pregenerate the file, right? And checking PM now 17:17 sfan5 you don't need a script if you have a pregenerated one 17:17 OldCoder location /index.mth { error_page 405 =200 $uri; } 17:17 OldCoder Hm 17:17 OldCoder What is $uri? 17:18 sfan5 /index.mth in this case 17:18 sfan5 brb 17:18 OldCoder No; I mean, is that an nginx feature? 17:18 sfan5 yes 17:18 OldCoder kk 17:19 Vazon_ Very nice OldCoder :) worked great, only stalled on media for about 20 sec 17:19 OldCoder That is still high 17:19 OldCoder But better than minutes 17:19 Vazon_ yes it is 17:20 OldCoder Well, I kept the promise. Pls test. Also tell me if sound works. 17:20 OldCoder If you run it in stand-alone world there is a fully_loaded _game to start with 17:21 Vazon_ sound does work 17:21 OldCoder So, fast and sound and no red screens and curl 17:21 OldCoder thumbs up? 17:21 Vazon_ yes :) 17:22 * Piggybear87 is still waiting for it to download... 17:22 OldCoder The link will be deleted when I produce a new release 17:23 Piggybear87 2 minutes remain.... Then the extraction... 17:23 * Piggybear87 is scared... 17:23 OldCoder ? 17:23 Piggybear87 It will take aa while. Lol. 17:25 OldCoder john_minetest, http://minetest.org/minetest-140610b.zip 17:26 OldCoder ^ Super fast client 17:26 Piggybear87 An error occurred while extracting the file... Looks like I'M not testing it... 17:27 OldCoder What type of error? 17:27 OldCoder Piggybear87, this is important. The file is not corrupted. If you can't open it, your network or PC is broken. 17:28 Piggybear87 Don't know. It just said "An error occurred while loading the archive" 17:28 OldCoder Um 17:28 OldCoder What OS is this? And how 17:28 OldCoder exactly did you try to open the archive? 17:28 OldCoder Who printed that message? 17:29 Piggybear87 Lubuntu (I was going to run it in Wine), and right click->extract here. 17:29 OldCoder No 17:29 OldCoder Is the file downloaded? 17:29 OldCoder What is its size? 17:29 Piggybear87 Yes. and 48.4 Mb. 17:29 OldCoder The download aborted 17:30 Piggybear87 Hmm, I wonder why... 17:30 OldCoder Piggybear87, I am sorry but the PC or network is not reliable. You can get the rest of the file, though. 17:30 OldCoder Open a Terminal 17:30 OldCoder Go to the folder where the file is 17:30 OldCoder Indicate when you are there 17:30 Piggybear87 I deleted it. I'm going to re-try. 17:31 OldCoder If it aborts again there is usually no need to delete; you can get the rest of the data 17:31 Piggybear87 OK. 17:32 Piggybear87 64.5 Mb? 17:32 OldCoder Wait 17:32 OldCoder Maybe 17:32 OldCoder Get the file and check its exact size in bytes 17:33 OldCoder 67644251 17:33 OldCoder Should match that 17:33 Piggybear87 Ok, that's what Firefox is saying. I will check the size when it completes. 17:33 OldCoder VanessaE, DreamBuilder cache is included in the Super Fast Client :P 17:34 OldCoder VanessaE, people can actually visit your DreamBuilder worlds now 17:34 OldCoder john_minetest, basically it starts the game in 1 minute instead of 20 17:34 Piggybear87 john_minetest, It's all pre-loaded. 17:34 OldCoder For remote servers 17:34 OldCoder There is another important change; turned off preload visuals 17:35 Piggybear87 Well, I do that anyway. Lol. 17:35 OldCoder john_minetest, how fast does a world load with empty cache? 17:36 OldCoder Rename cache/media and try Landrush 17:36 OldCoder minetest.org port 30011 17:36 OldCoder Or media/cache; whatever 17:36 OldCoder Also turn *on* preload visuals 17:36 OldCoder If you turned it off 17:37 Piggybear87 Anyone wanna send or buy me a KVM switch? 17:38 * sfan5 is back 17:38 sfan5 Piggybear87: they are not that expensive 17:39 Piggybear87 All of the ones I'm finding with PS/2 keyboard and mouse hookups are. 17:40 OldCoder This is remarkably fast. In fast, it is doubtful. 17:40 OldCoder Did you rename the cache folder? 17:40 OldCoder Speed of PC... 17:40 OldCoder Doesn't help with network issues 17:42 OldCoder john_minetest, thanks. Folks, I'm fading and must rest a bit. Try out the new client and comment when you can. Note that it has a new _game with a more usual collection of mods. 17:42 OldCoder john_minetest, that is very very fast. Not as fast as game just starts though :-) Still, acceptable. Some people do have up to 40 minutes. 17:45 * Piggybear87 wonders how hard making a KVM would be... 17:46 Calinou it's not trivial 17:46 Calinou no 17:46 Piggybear87 Waht's that? 17:46 Calinou but anyway, you're much better buying a new PC, new or used 17:47 Calinou instead of doing huge hacks :P 17:47 Piggybear87 I wanted my slower machine as a network storage center, but I need to see what's going on. Lol. 17:56 Piggybear87 john_minetest, Wrong. KVM = Keyboard, Video, Mouse. 17:59 Piggybear87 Use 1 for 2 machines. 17:59 Piggybear87 Brb. 18:00 ecutruin There. Now I have my nick. >.< Seems someone has Ecu here. 18:02 ecutruin So, I'ma MC modder guy looking at Minetest as an alternative for content creation (don't care for hacking MC), what kind of limitations does Minetest have in comparison to say Forge modding? (for those that might know) 18:04 Jordach ecutruin, um 18:05 Piggybear87 john_minetest, No I want to have my slower machine to be used as a network media storage (music, videos, pictures, etc.), but I have only 1 mouse kb and monitor. 18:06 ecutruin Jordach, I am honestly not sure how many #minetest regulars actually do MC modding. ^-^; I just figured I'd ask. 18:06 ecutruin So far, from my research, you can do a whole lot with Minetest's engine if you're creative. 18:06 realtinymonster ecutruin: yep 18:06 ecutruin And a whole lot more if you're willing to dive into C. 18:07 ecutruin I'd prefer to stick with Lua personally, I'm more of an artist/designer then programmer these days. 18:07 Piggybear87 ecutruin, This may help you get started. http://dev.minetest.net/Intro 18:08 Piggybear87 Be warned, some of it is outdated. 18:08 ecutruin Thanks Piggybear87, I'll take a look. One thing I'm curious about.. is custom node models.. can you get very complex with them? 18:09 Piggybear87 ecutruin, Yes, using nodeboxes, I believe they're called. 18:09 * sfan5 meows at john_minetest 18:09 * john_minetest gives sfan5 a <'(((((((@debian@(((---< 18:10 ecutruin From what I've seen (abiat, I'm not very knowledgable), noteboxes are still limited to the 6 texture faces, is that true? Or can I have more control of my textures somehow? 18:10 * sfan5 flips john_minetest 18:10 * john_minetest rotates sfan5 around his z axis around 180 degrees. 18:10 ecutruin noteboxes - nodeboxes* 18:11 Piggybear87 I honestly do not know, there are people here and on the forum that are very helpful. 18:11 * sfan5 gives john_minetest a kitten 18:11 Piggybear87 Gotta run for a bit. Back soon. 18:12 * john_minetest got a kitten hat. 18:12 ecutruin Here's some example of some of the random art I've done.. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/cxi9vzdzmk6ywpa/6NDGwDrWBl#/ 18:13 ecutruin I'd love to be able to do these kinds of things in Minetest.. if its possible. 18:18 Jordach ecutruin, .x and .b3d meshnodes are in the pipeline 18:18 Jordach so that means you can create a very lovely UV Map for them 18:19 Jordach (in fact any type of exported mesh that irrlicht supports can be used natively) 18:19 ecutruin Jordach, ah. Right now though, there is no means to specify textures per nodebox separately? 18:19 Jordach ecutruin, not currently 18:19 Jordach although many have bugged for it 18:20 ecutruin Hrm, that's unfortunate.. do you have an idea how far off the new import might be? I completely understand etas are generally wrong.. but even a rough idea would help. 18:20 Jordach ecutruin, afaik RealBadAngel is working on it 18:20 Jordach and i shoukld provide a mesh 18:20 Jordach for testing 18:21 Jordach five secs 18:21 * sfan5 meows at Jordach 18:21 * Jordach cracks out the blender 18:22 ecutruin Ah alright. I have a developer that is willing to write me a model converter for my favorite program.. currently he has obj/png export support.. but I was going to ask him to do nodebox.. 18:22 ecutruin but it wouldn't work with the way nodeboxes currently work.. so I will probably have to use Node Editor to figure things out. 18:22 * ecutruin reminds himself to look into Node Editor more. 18:23 Jordach Nodebox* 18:24 ecutruin Yeah, that. x.x; 18:24 Jordach ecutruin, i've used it before - but i have once converted blender vert data into nodeboxes 18:25 RealBadAngel ecutruin, that will be possible with drawtype = mesh 18:25 RealBadAngel forget about nodeboxes 18:25 ecutruin Another question (sorry for them all), can I draw nodeboxes differently based on metadata or somesuch? Specifically, what kind of limitations would I have? Textures only? Different models? 18:25 Jordach ecutruin, you'll have to make multiple nodes, see pipeworks or xfences as examples] 18:26 RealBadAngel no you cant 18:26 ecutruin RealBadAngel, awesome to hear. ^-^ I currently use the voxel art tool Quibicle Constructor to do most of my art now days.. so being able to convert that to obj models and then import them would be awesome. 18:26 RealBadAngel there is such code, but not in the engine yet 18:26 ecutruin Ah. 18:27 RealBadAngel you can import them already 18:27 ecutruin So I've got a bit to wait before the features I really want are options.. but there does seem to be some 'workarounds' possible. 18:27 RealBadAngel and use such models for entities 18:27 RealBadAngel ive used once irrlicht examples dwarf as a player model 18:28 RealBadAngel only change will come you will be able to use models for nodes too 18:28 ecutruin Ah. 18:29 ecutruin Could I use entities as blocks, as a workaround, if I wanted to? :P 18:31 Jordach ecutruin, yers 18:31 ecutruin Well, that's one option. 18:32 ecutruin I could probably make due with Nodebox Editor right now as well, if needed. Nodeboxes cannot be animated though, right? So no opening chests or anything? 18:35 realtinymonster OH 18:35 realtinymonster wow! 18:36 realtinymonster this iPhone game has such a great API 18:39 realtinymonster lol 18:40 realtinymonster I have odd ways 18:40 realtinymonster espeka is awesome 18:41 * sfan5 throws cake at john_minetest's face 18:42 ecutruin RealBadAngel, You mentioned being able to use entities...how reliable are they? I've read a few posts about entities being 'unstable'...are they still as such? 18:43 Jordach ecutruin, unstable as in, might crash and or just not work as you'd think 18:46 ecutruin Jordach, either. I kinda would like them to be reliable if I'm going to use them. 18:47 Jordach ecutruin, they are saved when the map is closed 18:47 Jordach but in some cases (simple mobs) they dont 18:48 Jordach for some reason simple mobs entities never stuck around long enough 18:48 PilzAdam Jordach, simple mobs' mobs are saved 18:48 PilzAdam I simply remove them when they are loaded again 18:48 Jordach and that explains it 18:49 Jordach that's actually bugged me for the last year why 18:49 Jordach PilzAdam, you've not noticed that your posts remaining until 4096 has been changine 18:50 ecutruin So.. if I was to say use an entity to say act as the liquid level of a barrel.. would it stay in place where I want it.. and reload when I wanted it to? 18:50 ecutruin And could I control it from the barrel? 18:50 Jordach ecutruin, yupo 18:51 w_laenger hi 18:51 Piggybear87 Back, but, in and out. 18:51 PilzAdam you can't "reload" an entity if you want to 18:51 PilzAdam the engine does that for you 18:52 PilzAdam note that block loading and entity loading is separate, so you might get empty barrels or water flying in air 18:52 w_laenger I accidentally unloaded a plugin of xchat. How can I get it back? 18:53 Jordach w_laenger, restart xchat 18:53 w_laenger that didn't work 18:53 Jordach although i've not used it much 18:54 sfan5 meow 18:54 sfan5 john_minetest: https://mediacru.sh/pE6Va0a7sI7G 18:54 w_laenger I also reinstalled xchat and deleted .xchat2 but it didn't help 18:55 PilzAdam john_minetest, good that the resolution of that image isn't totally overkill for the content 18:55 ecutruin PilzAdam, so you cannot really have fine control of an entity from a node? 18:56 PilzAdam ecutruin, what do you mean by "from a node"? 18:56 w_laenger and I got a problem when I tried to started an older 0.4.9-dev minetest 18:56 PilzAdam maybe look at the signs mod(s), they have entities "attached" to nodes 18:56 w_laenger after I compiled it again 18:56 w_laenger it tells me "Irrlicht Engine version 1.8.0" and then it aborts 18:57 ecutruin Well you said you couldn't reload the entity.. so it would be hard to say reset a liquid level to a different level on world load? 18:57 w_laenger "Speicherzugriffsfehler" 18:58 PilzAdam ecutruin, you can change the appearance of the entity at any time 18:58 ecutruin PilzAdam, and I can tie a specific entity to a specific node? 18:59 The_Beast Hey 18:59 The_Beast Hey Vanessae 18:59 PilzAdam ecutruin, there is no special function to do that, you'll have to make sure that it's at a node's position yourself 18:59 ecutruin PilzAdam, ah ok. 19:00 ecutruin Sounds like I could achieve the results I'd want through creative usage of Entities and Nodes/Nodeboxes. 19:00 w_laenger [ 77.328130] show_signal_msg: 48 callbacks suppressed 19:00 w_laenger [ 77.328139] minetest[1672]: segfault at 80000000 ip b70229a8 sp bfea815c error 4 in libc-2.15.so[b6ee3000+1a4000] 19:00 w_laenger [ 467.512116] minetest[1882]: segfault at 80000000 ip b70479a8 sp bfb735ac error 4 in libc-2.15.so[b6f08000+1a4000] 19:00 w_laenger [ 480.536435] minetest[1884]: segfault at 80000000 ip b707f9a8 sp bf9efe4c error 4 in libc-2.15.so[b6f40000+1a4000] 19:00 Jordach huh, shadowbot isn't in the house 19:00 PilzAdam !op Jordach 19:00 Jordach i could have done that myself, PilzAdam 19:01 w_laenger sorry for writing much text here 19:01 PilzAdam >writing 19:01 PilzAdam more like pasting 19:01 w_laenger ok, pasting with middle mouse click 19:01 PilzAdam " Use pastebin if you want to post more than 3 lines (e.g. error messages or code)" 19:02 PilzAdam 3 19:02 w_laenger ok 19:02 w_laenger there: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7624999/ 19:03 VanessaE hi all 19:04 w_laenger hi 19:04 nman3600 hi 19:05 w_laenger does this cause the Speicherzugriffsfehler? https://github.com/minetest/minetest/commit/c8a99404e8c52a59127bdd634b13f10f7ebb19ab 19:06 OldCoder VanessaE, scroll up. I quite like it. 19:12 w_laenger why does xchat use aplay? 19:14 w_laenger are we allowed. das zu do? 19:15 w_laenger minetets still tells me Irrlicht Engine version 1.8.0 Speicherzugriffsfehler 19:16 WindHero Dungeon Masters can burn in Holle 19:16 * WindHero surprisingly knows an iota of German 19:30 Piggybear87 I was just able to play for about 30 minutes (till I got bored). Maybe my problem is fixing itself. :) 19:36 Megaf VanessaE: Hi. What do you use to do this? http://digitalaudioconcepts.com/vanessa/hobbies/minetest/stats.html 19:41 VanessaE Megaf: I use the rrdtool suite and a few scripts to scrape minetest logs and `top` and `iostat` output. 19:42 VanessaE (those scripts are in here: http://digitalaudioconcepts.com/vanessa/hobbies/minetest/Server-scripts/ ) 19:42 Megaf I see, thanks VanessaE 19:47 Jordach ecutruin seems like a nice guy 19:47 Piggybear87 Ok, peeps, I want to run a test. 21:12 sapier what's LPeg? ;-) is there another more common name for it? 21:13 luizrpgluiz what you hear with the site??? 21:13 SoniEx2 LPeg Parsing Expression Grammars for Lua 21:14 sapier if it's lua 5.1 yes if not support is pure chance 21:14 luizrpgluiz because the site was down? 21:14 SoniEx2 yes lua 5.1 21:14 SoniEx2 well actually C 21:15 SoniEx2 but it's for lua 5.1 21:15 sapier then no 21:15 sapier we don't officially support any libraries that may or may not be available for lua 21:16 SoniEx2 so no JS in minetest? :/ 21:16 sapier lua 5.1 without any additional libraries 21:17 SoniEx2 ok uhh 21:17 WindHero no JS in minetest 21:17 SoniEx2 does the interpreter support the thing? 21:17 sapier anything else may or may not work, if you use them in your mods it's your responsibility to explain mod users how to do 21:18 WindHero skylands: now with larger caves: https://mediacru.sh/xzHGDfj_CFfi 21:18 SoniEx2 minetest has an IRC thing 21:19 SoniEx2 which uses binary libraries 21:19 sapier yes that's what I meant wit "it's your responsibility to explain mod users ..." 21:21 SoniEx2 I can detect the system using pure Lua no? 21:21 SoniEx2 uhh wait 21:21 SoniEx2 I don't have to... 21:22 SoniEx2 I just have to parse package.cpath 21:22 SoniEx2 and tweak it 21:22 sapier http://www.mediafire.com/download/5vt0v7uh2o82z5k/Minetest-release_20140610.apk new android build 21:22 WindHero :o 21:23 sapier you know minetest could decide to disallow external libs for security reasons by some time soniex? 21:23 WindHero I gotta get one of those soon 21:23 sapier that's not very likely but possible 21:25 SoniEx2 sapier, then I would make a PR to shove LPeg down its throat 21:26 sapier you haven't even explained why you believe to need it 21:26 kaeza >Showing 1 changed file with 62 additions and 457 deletions. 21:27 kaeza aww, no Jordachs here :( 21:29 SoniEx2 sapier, makes parsing easier/faster 21:29 SoniEx2 so I can shove javascript down its throat and it'll parse it for me 21:29 sapier why don't you just learn lua ... 21:30 sapier for anyone capable of programming learning a new language to be able to use it it about a week 21:30 SoniEx2 because I don't know Javascript 21:30 SoniEx2 :P 21:30 sapier whatever ... doesn't sound like a legit reason to add a lib to me 21:32 SoniEx2 well it can do FORTH too 21:32 SoniEx2 FORTH javascript lua (lua in lua, yeah) CSS HTML YAML JSON UTF-8 21:32 SoniEx2 almost anything 21:33 sapier that's not relevant 21:33 SoniEx2 UTF-8? 21:33 SoniEx2 JSON? 21:33 SoniEx2 YAML? 21:58 VanessaE [06-10 17:33] for anyone capable of programming learning a new language to be able to use it it about a week <---- not if you come from oldskool programming like I do, or just plain can't grok things like C++ :P 21:59 VanessaE (well unless you specifically mean Lua) 22:03 sapier what I meant is there are about 2 or three language families out there, c family, lisp family and maybe some very special ones 22:04 sapier if you managed to really master one language of a family other languages aren't much more as looking up a dictionary 22:04 sapier not counting the obscure things provided by each language 22:18 VanessaE sapier: the problem is specifically those things provided by each language 22:19 VanessaE you can have all the C-like, or LISP-like or whatever-alike syntax you want, but when you start getting into each language's specific features is when you start to confuse people 22:19 VanessaE I don't know, for example, what a constructor is or what * does, etc and my mind just doesn't work that way to try to understand it, either. 22:20 VanessaE (which is why I focus on the Lua parts - I understand that, despite the syntax being about the same) 22:20 sapier yes but you don't need those specifics for hello world ;-) 22:21 sapier of course you wont be a pro within a week 22:21 VanessaE no, but hello world is a long way from a game like Minetest :P 22:21 sapier but you'll be able to write simple programms within a week 22:22 sapier especially for those languages beeing scripting languages 22:51 Vazon ShadowNinja are you there? 22:53 Tesseract Vazon: Yep. What is it? 22:54 Vazon i need to know if on ShadowNinja's area mod if he can make it where if you something like /area_openinv so you cna unlock areas inventory protection so we can have public technic and stuff on my server 22:56 Tesseract VanessaE: A constructor "constructs" an object. That might consist of, for example, setting the maxMPH variable to a reasonable value for a Car object. * is the pointer-derefference operator, which is a bit harder to explain. 22:56 Tesseract Vazon: /area_open should open inventories too. 22:56 Vazon yes but they can dig stuff and we dont want that 22:57 ShadowNinja Oh. By default most things have open inventories. Is this about the Technic machines? 22:58 ShadowNinja Someone probosed a inventory opening method. I think there were issues with the code though. 22:58 Vazon yes 23:00 Vazon if you can get a working fix please let me know and thanks 23:20 SoniEx2 sapier forgot to talk about the Lua family of languages 23:21 SoniEx2 aka Lua with metatables 23:21 SoniEx2 aka call(somefunc, argfier() + arg1 + arg2 + arg3, ...) 23:22 Megaf_ Hi Vazon 23:23 Megaf_ https://github.com/minetest/minetest/pull/1361 23:25 Vazon Hey Megaf_ :D 23:26 Vazon what did you change ERROR to INFO in?? 23:30 Megaf Vazon; The time out message is way to alarming, and it's at the moment an ERROR message 23:30 Megaf 14:41:36: ERROR[ConnectionSend]: con(5/1)RunTimeouts(): Peer 2 has timed out. (source=peer->timeout_counter) 23:30 Megaf No need for that 23:31 Megaf Vazon; So I changed it to this 23:31 Megaf 15:17:06: ACTION[ServerThread]: test times out. List of players: 23:31 Megaf hm 23:31 Megaf thats something weird there 23:32 Megaf anyway 23:32 Megaf is no longer an error 23:32 Megaf its just an info 23:32 Vazon ok 23:38 ShadowNinja You mean an action? Actions are things that players do. I don't think a timeout counts. 23:49 Megaf ShadowNinja; I mean, info 23:49 Megaf well 23:49 Megaf action is closer to what a time out is then an error 23:50 Megaf if I decide to go shopping, and then I give up and go back home, is that an error? 23:50 Megaf if I decide to join a server, then I give up and go back to my OS, is that an error?
