00:33 VanessaE sofar: actually dreambuilder is probably larger and slightly more complex now than when it was a subgame.  the reason it isn't a subgame is it became impossible for me to reliably track minetest_game updates, even though it should theoretically have been easier.  maintaining it as a modpack is trivial by comparison.  updating is easy too... a couple of scripts and, *pppttht* done.
00:34 VanessaE it was more difficult because dreambuilder modified some stuff in default, and one or two other places, stuff that had a tendency to conflict with mt_game updates
00:34 VanessaE now any modifications are done via an extra mod
00:36 VanessaE (sorry for the delayed response, btw.  I was out running errands all afternoon)

01:05 octacian sofar: BTW, I've been working on rewriting the modmgr to work a lot better
01:05 octacian That overall sounds like an interesting idea...
01:05 octacian With modpacks eliminated, things would be much easier to work with
01:26 Sokomine red-001: which server is supposed to be taken offline?
01:26 Sokomine oh...
01:27 Sokomine sofar: modpacks are annoying to maintain because github doesn't have something for easy maintenance in that area. at least not the way mt needs it
01:27 red-001 AMHI
01:29 Sokomine Fixer: updating default does take some thought and research on a server. default is not as consistent as a server owner might wish. textures might disappear, nodes behave diffrently...
01:34 Sokomine sofar: libs are already problematic in mt. most modders try to avoid them. it's more difficult for users to install
01:36 Sokomine red-001: yes, thanks. read it in the meantime. guess i ought to save my....er...started buildings there...locally
01:37 Sokomine -dev is surprisingly quiet
01:37 Sokomine did i chase the devs away with my question there? :/
01:43 benrob0329 Sokomine: the dev/mod naming convention would help
01:43 benrob0329 With libs, as will dependancy resolution

03:14 bigfoot547 I need to get off my computer. Bye!
03:22 paramat Sokomine please open an issue for slow light update and tag juhdanad, he rewrote light updates
03:41 paramat Sokomine maybe add it to https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/5900
03:48 Sokomine paramat: good idea
03:56 paramat but i thought mgvillages did not work at all due to 5900?
03:57 Sokomine when the bug occours mt just crashes. it's sometimes possible to still continue playing that world by starting it a few times and flying fast into another direction
03:57 paramat anyway, as far as i remember light updates were not made slower by his changes, i think they became faster
03:57 paramat ok
04:02 Sokomine when i time diffrent operations in the generation code, updating the lighting code often goes up to 500000 microseconds. flatten village area (which tries to keep the ground type) can sometimes also be expensive but is limited to few chunks. repair outer shell also (sometimes) costs. get voxelmanip data is at about 100.000-150.000 most of the time now (i wonder if the resolution was changed)
04:03 Sokomine storing data and updading liquids also costs

12:43 red-001 lisac, we need client <-> server communications, and an inventory open callback
12:44 red-001 and it wouldn't be that useful before we get better mod security and mod transfer.

14:09 Sokomine lisac: having unified inventory as a csm really sounds like a good idea. that'd finally be some good use of csm. it may only be that many servers will probably restrict csm alltogether
14:10 benrob0329 Sokomine: unless they use U_I and need the updates, which will probably only be to the csm fork
14:10 Sokomine the craft guide and the arrangement of items in the craft grid would be most useful

15:16 Fuchs yes
15:17 Fuchs 42
15:17 benrob0329 Would a standard LogServ be possible?
15:17 Bobr2 lol
15:17 benrob0329 For a standard way for channels and clients to have logs
15:17 Fuchs benrob0329: technically yes, as we use atheme and thus everything it provides would be possible. We are, however, not terribly fond of public logs, so it's a bit unlikely that we will add it
15:18 benrob0329 I think for some channels it would be nice, perhaps only released to those with a certain role (as per OPs discretion)
15:19 RED-001 https://wikileaks.org/ciav7p1/cms/page_17760284.html
15:20 Fuchs benrob0329: tricky. You could check if atheme already has it, if not submit a feature request to atheme instead, as we try to use mostly upstream atheme with as few changes as possible
15:20 Fuchs also I'm a bit afraid of that, given our network size. Either this has to be kept in memory, which is horrible, or on disk, which is also horrible and a bit against our data retention policy
15:21 Fuchs (freenode does not keep any logs from channels or queries, at all. we keep service logs, under said policy)
15:21 RED-001 / isn't allowed right?
15:21 Fuchs RED-001: in nicks? Yes. Only []{}-_^`\|

15:22 Fuchs also note we rate limit nick changes :)
15:23 Fuchs oh, you angered emerson
15:23 Fuchs then that might kick in before the hard limit :)
15:23 red-001 how are all of those already registered...
15:23 red-001 plus I think I might have misconfigured something
15:24 red-001 since either my client or my bnc tries to login
15:24 benrob0329 Fuchs: I was thinking they could be sent to another server (and thus be hosted by the OPs of the channel)
15:24 red-001 ever time it gets the "This nickname is registered." message
15:25 Fuchs benrob0329: rather sure this does not exist yet, but you can do a feature request at atheme (they are on GitHub, at upstream please, not our forked repo)
15:25 benrob0329 Fuchs: will do
15:26 Fuchs can't promise we'd do it on freenode, mind,
15:26 Fuchs that sounds like it will raise various concerns among staff, including me
15:26 Bobr2 urgh i just raged quit
15:26 benrob0329 It will have to be done right, but once done right could be a nice feature to have for logged chats
15:27 Fuchs sure
15:27 Fuchs also not sure if that should be in services (Atheme) or the ircd (seven, in our case) then

17:35 benrob0329 XD
17:35 Bobr2 hey Shaea
17:35 Bobr2 Shara lol
17:35 Shara You all know I'm probably allergic to capslock right?
17:35 Bobr2 yeah same here
17:35 benrob0329 but its caps lock day
17:36 Bobr2 caps block day more like
17:36 Shara So if sofar wants to send you all to detention for your antics, I'm totally behind it :)
17:36 benrob0329 also Bobr2 nice try, you did it too earlier
17:37 Shara Anyway, hi all :P
17:37 RED-001 I just did my normal spamming
17:37 Bobr2 hi
17:37 benrob0329 heh, hi Shara
17:37 * Shara wonders what the command to revert red to lowercase is
17:37 benrob0329 $red = "red-001"
17:38 Shara But benrob0329, that looks kind of boring.
17:39 benrob0329 cmd.red.cap --set false --uname "hacker" --pword "hunter2"
17:41 RED-001 oh neat hexchat responds to a ctcp of (null) with (null)
17:41 KAADMY NICE

17:45 RED-001 * (null) :Unknown command
17:45 RED-001 it really does it
17:47 RED-001 * Received a malformed DCC request from sofar.
17:47 RED-001 * Contents of packet: DCC SEND message.txt 0 42177 4
17:47 sofar probably my deadbeat corporate proxy ate it :)
17:47 KAADMY Gnome3 /me barfs
17:48 RED-001 it could be ZNC messing up
17:48 Bobr2 mayybe
17:48 Bobr2 but i doubt its ZNC
17:49 RED-001 yeah I think it's ZNC
17:49 RED-001 * Received a malformed DCC request from RED-001.
17:49 RED-001 * Contents of packet: DCC SEND mt.gif 0 38211 1723606
17:56 * benrob0329 wonders if dcc could be used as a way of streaming audio
17:56 benrob0329 or video, or other things

18:00 benrob0329 Heh
18:00 Bobr2 looolololololo
18:01 benrob0329 Could be useful as an alternative to WebRTC or Skype though
18:01 red-045 yeah
18:01 red-045 I think it is an issue with the BNC provider I used
18:02 benrob0329 Gosh darnit red, how an I supposed to send you a 16 byte file if you keep changing your name?
18:03 red-045 it worked with this BNC
18:04 red-045 * DCC RECV 'test.txt' from benrob0329 failed (Remote host closed socket)
18:05 red-045 try again?

18:21 Bobr2 lol
18:22 benrob0329 isnt there a version of dcc that does through the server?
18:22 red-045 yeah the issue is with bouncedcc modual
18:22 red-045 it will work if you send it now
18:23 red-045 well it's broken on your end
18:23 benrob0329 probably, since i havent gotten a failure notice yet

18:30 benrob0329 idk
18:30 benrob0329 i see why dcc isnt used
18:31 red-045 yeah
18:31 red-045 just sending a link to a file hosted somewhere is easier
18:32 benrob0329 Which is sad because having a direct connection which is easily available would be so useful
18:36 benrob0329 perhaps i need to set the port
18:37 red-001 oh
18:37 red-001 that could be messing with znc too
18:37 red-001 ah well
18:37 red-001 this isn't that important
18:39 benrob0329 nope, now it doesnt work at al

19:14 IhrFussel Why does the stamina mod this dumb condition? if h > hp and hp > 0 and air > 0 ... I get hp > 0 & air > 0 but why does it need to be more than the HP?
19:14 IhrFussel have this*
19:16 sofar otherwise it would send HP packets when health is unchanged to each client
19:16 IhrFussel It makes this setting obsolete STAMINA_HEAL_LVL = 3 because it rarely even goes down to 3
19:17 IhrFussel Then something else must be wrong with the code cause it STOPS healing at 8 or 9 breads
19:19 IhrFussel When I remove that part of the condition then it's the correct behavior IMO: It will heal the player until STAMINA_HEAL_LVL = 3
19:19 benrob0329 im going to try hexchat and see if that does dcc better
19:19 benrob0329 that compiled quickly
19:20 sofar IhrFussel: ahh so
19:20 sofar IhrFussel: it's a balance thing, when you're not fully fed, you don't get fully healed
19:20 sofar that was done on purpose, by me
19:21 benrob0329_ joined #minetest-hub
19:21 sofar it forces you to eat early if you want to keep your health at max
19:21 IhrFussel sofar, When I have 5 HP and full stamina it heals until 9 or 10 bread then STOPS
19:21 IhrFussel I mean 8 or 9*
19:21 sofar yes but note that your stamina decreases as you eat
19:22 sofar healing stops when your health is more than your stamina
19:22 sofar if you want to heal more, eat some more food
19:22 IhrFussel Well that's not the behavior I wanted so I changed it to just if h > 4
19:22 sofar you can't waste food with the stamina mod though, it prevents food going to waste
19:23 benrob0329_ anyone want to try DCC with hexchat?
19:23 sofar IhrFussel: it's open source, you can do that. I won't accept that in a PR though.
19:24 IhrFussel sofar, that's fine...so was the comment about sending too many packets wrong and you meant another part of the code?
19:24 sofar there are some checks in there (like hp > 0) to prevent extra packets, or healing while dead, yes
19:25 sofar I just hadn't read the code yet when I said that
19:26 IhrFussel My code is this now, does it waste packets? -- don't heal if drowning or-- TODO: don't heal if poisoned? local h = get_int_attribute(player, "stamina:level") if h > 4 and hp > 0 and hp < 20 and air > 0
19:26 sofar should be fine
19:41 IhrFussel Can someone tell me why the damage mobs deal seems to increase over time in Mobs Redo?
19:42 IhrFussel Like when a player is just standing still in front of the mob the 1st hit will deal 2 hearts and the other after suddenly deal 3 hearts each
19:51 benrob0329_ they get a better aim?
19:53 IhrFussel I don't think the damage depends on the aim but I could be wrong
19:59 lisac hey red-001 can we place waypoints in CSM?

20:42 benrob0329 CALINOU: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/586044-why-discord-sucks/
20:55 CALINOU that's over a year old
20:56 CALINOU also, yes, I don't think Discord will be here forever
20:56 CALINOU but until the open source community creates a decent protocol and client...
21:11 Sokomine some warnings are not really useful in mt...they just spam the log
21:16 Calinou one day, we'll make a song out of these errors
21:16 Calinou we'll call it "The Fullscreen Mode Is Not Supported"
21:16 Sokomine i'm afraid that sound would be too repetitive
21:17 Sokomine it might also lead to worldwide aggression. imagine people having to hear the same error message over and over and over and over again - repeated thousands of times without any meaning
21:20 calcul0n no politics here please :)
21:22 ThomasMonroe bye for now
21:24 benrob0329 Calinou: XMPP has had years to mature, and no one seems interested in using it :-/
21:38 Fixer people would rather eat proprietary shit
21:39 Fixer Calinou: thats the problem, today we have bunch of compeating noncompatible shit, some of it will be replaced with other new shit, also not compatible, it is mess
21:40 Fixer i really hope end of current tech bubble will kill off some of this crap
21:47 Sokomine calcul0n: do you mean politicians might get intrested in receiting mt error messages? :)
21:48 sofar open source is highly political
21:48 benrob0329 Fixer: WebRTC over IRC :^)
21:48 Fixer also, if you are ignoring politics for too long, it will not ignore you, and will fuck you
21:49 Fixer would?
21:49 sofar will
21:50 benrob0329 Matrix: Seems good, but tries to do too much at once and is unstable
21:50 benrob0329 With bits that are incomplete
21:51 benrob0329 XMPP: Old, and stable. But not all clients are compatible
21:52 benrob0329 IRC: Very old, very stable. Things are often weird and counter-intuitive, but it will work for text chat.
21:52 Fixer i've used xmpp for some time, funny times
21:54 benrob0329 Basically, a friend of mine read that article
21:54 benrob0329 And said, I quote
21:54 benrob0329 "Run."
21:55 benrob0329 Apparently back to Skype, to which I basically said oh hell naw
22:06 IhrFussel IRC: Very complicated
22:11 Fixer IhrFussel: hah?
22:11 Fixer ah you mean for not computer literate persons, yes
22:12 Fixer i wonder why Windows does not come with HOW TO USE manual
22:12 Fixer even after 30 years of gui, most people on PC feels like on minefield
22:13 Fixer and now it is time for everybody loves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfUWbgLdSgE
22:16 IhrFussel Fixer, no not only for casuals...I know PHP, HTML, JS, Lua, Bash and partly Ajax...but I find IRC to be a very complex chat system that takes lots of time to fully understand
22:18 IhrFussel Which is why I decided to connect a website to the game server and NOT the IRC mod...everyone know what a website is and how to access it ... the same can't be said about IRC
22:19 * Fixer .oO(CYBERRECOMPILE latest mt)
