05:19 Hijiri making a voxelmanip is a common hack for loading an area, but how long does it stay loaded? Until the vm is garbage collected?

05:54 hmmmm there is no guarantee it'd be loaded at all.  that's just a side effect of the current implementation.  minetest modders are VERY creative when it comes to using the given interfaces
